From what I have read on this board, getting ressies at the 3 bedroom cottages at VB is difficult. Since my husband is not bowled over by the whole buying into DVC thing, I told him about the cottages at VB and that seemed to pique his interest in the whole thing. My question is, if we buy into one of the WDW resorts and have to book Vero at the 7 month window, how hard will it be to get a beach cottage for Sun-Fri in the middle of the summer? Any info you have would be wonderful.

I doubt you will be able get one at the 7 month window in the summer. You might want to try to get a VB owner to book it for you at the 11 month window.

Maybe you can switch pts with them at your home resort, in order to get the Beach Cottage for your dates.

I have not even had my first trip "home" yet, but I did find availability for a GV at OKW within the 7 month booking window for next April :) I understand that is not the norm. So, there is always hope.

And to quote others on the board... If you can be flexible with your dates or are willing to go on the waitlist, I bet you'll be ok. I too am hoping to stay in one of the cottages someday. And I shall hold out hope ::yes::

P.S. Can you transfer points out of your account and have someone else transfer points in? If so, do you each get to enjoy each others 11 month booking privladges? Just a good question to add to this thread.

Not unless the two transfers occur in different years. You may only transfer in one direction (either into your account or out of your account, but not both) per year. So you really can't just trade points.

What you could do is exchange reservations. You make an 11 month reservation at your home resort for the other member. Then he/she makes an 11 month reservation at his/her home resort for you. Then one of you (the one whose reservation used the most points) transfers the difference to the other. That only takes one transfer. Another option is to have one of you pay the other an agreed upon amount of cash to compensate for the difference.

Best wishes -

TammyAlphabet, have you already purchased points or are you just thinking about it? I kind of got the impression that you're trying to talk your DH into it???

If you haven't bought yet, why don't you look into a VB resale? That way you'd have the points for your beach cottage and could still likely get a reservation at one of the WDW resorts when you want to.

TammyAlphabet, please let me compliment you on your impeccable grammar and spelling, as well as the proper spelling and usage of the word "pique". It really is refreshing to see someone who continues to excercise proper English even when in an informal and anonymous setting like this.

As for your question about VB Beach Cottages, I concur that you would be better off with the 11 month booking window for mid-summer reservations. So perhaps VB points would be worth exploring, despite the relatively high annual dues.

Good luck!

We own at Boardwalk and have secured the Beach Cottages twice. In March of 2001, for 4 nights and in August, 2002 for 4 nights. Both were booked right at the 7 month window.

I actually thought about buying at Vero, for the ease of booking the beach cottages, but I was concerned when I posted a question about it because I got a response from one DISer who pointed out that Disney may sever their ties with both VB and HH at some point since they are not on Disney property. This was alarming! I don't know where this came from, rumor or what, but I sure would be upset if I lost the ability to book at WDW after buying in at VB at some point in the future.

Don't buy at VB if you know you will mostly want to stay at WDW. The annual dues are higher, the contracts are harder to sell and there is a higher risk. At least wait to see what impact the recent hurricane damage will have on 2005 dues before you commit to buying there.

There are ways to reserve a Beach Cottge at the 11 month window without actually owning VB points. You can trade reservations with a VB owner or rent points from a VB owner. It may take a little more work on your part, but if you will only want the BC on an infrequent basis, it's better to have the 11 month window for a WDW stay.

Best wishes -

Yeah, this is possible, but not probable. It is also possible that Elvis is alive and working as a gardener at the Contemporary, and there is that rumor about the next DVC resort, that they plan to build it on Mars (or just past the most distant parking in the MK lot, but perhaps Mars is closer). DVD does have the contractual right to sell off VB and/or HH, or any of the DVC properties for that matter. Sure, it's something to worry about, but there are other, better things to worry about in this world.

That being said, if you plan to use your DVC membership primarily at WDW, then buy at one of the WDW resorts. As CarolMN points out, there are other ways of securing a Beach Cottage at VB.

Just a note to all who have come here looking for a post they made. It is not here because I removed all the post that were off-topic. This is the DVC Board to discuss things DVC. Not a place to discuss politic.

Signatures do not make a post "off-topic." That said, while you may put "off-topic" things in your signature, they still must meet the DIS posting guidelines.

I think that the 11 month window is needed in order to get a 3 bedroom accomodation at any of the resorts. It is needed at Vero Beach as I understand it, many people have selected Vero beach as thier home resort to insure their ability to get the beach cottages. I think that BWV only has 9 3 bedroom villas. I believe Vero has 5 cottages if I can remember correctly.

I hope SSR is planning on having many 3 bedroom villas to increase the likelyhood they will be available in the 7 month window.

One possibility is that you may be able to use the rent trade board to trade your points with someone to take advantage of the 11 month booking window for them to be able to take advantage of your 11 month booking window for an accomodation of thier choice. I haven't seen many of these mutual trades, but is seems like a workable option.

Of course right now, many of os are worried about the condition of our Vero Beach resort as a result of the Hurricanes.
