Vero Beach -- Beach Cottage

Hello everyone. This is my first post in a long time (I moved over to TUG a while ago). I'll be at Vero Beach in a cottage in mid June. I haven't been to Vero in a few years, have the cottages been remodeled? Also, what is the beach currently like. When I was there a few years ago the beach was little more than a cliff that went straight into the ocean. Eight or so years ago the beach was much wider and there was no cliff.

I'm just excited to be going back to Vero and in a beach cottage of all things, but I wondered if there have been any remodels. Last time I was there, I think the chairs which turn into a single bed had just been added -- but that was in the one and two bedroom units.

...and this is specific, but are any of the cottages better than the others? Thanks.

We had a BC in June, and there had been no remodeling as far as I could tell. I don't have a particular favorite one. Our goal is to be in each one! 3 down so far!

Absolutely! Even dedicated 2 bedrooms there only have 1 queen & 1 king, and we had one with no view except vegetation. After that stay, we will only book BC when it's a family vacation.

This summer we're not going to VB, but I had a great stay on OVIR earlier this month!

I had horrible views in every two bedroom at vero, also. The inn rooms are great. There are corner rooms with a couch in addition to the two beds. Love the inn rooms.

I was contemplating a cottage on a future first visit......is it worth the points?

From what saw from an online video....bedrooms downstairs with patios/balcony and living quarters upstairs with fantastic views.

Anything really special about them? And I am curious about the beach too.

I think the beach cottages are the most special grand villas of all the dvc resorts. The reason being, you get a private house directly on the ocean. People who have the beach houses are the envy of everyone else at the resort. You will get a lot of looks walking in and out of your house.

It's been a few years since I saw the beach but at that time it was literally a cliff of sand with a very narrow top just large enough for the rental chairs. The cliff went right into the ocean and the sand at the surf is filled with shells that do hurt at first to walk on, not to mention when a wave plows you into the surf. The ocean is rough and not what I would call kid friendly by any means. My son was four when I took him and the waves were so rough at the surf a series of waves literally took off his shorts, all the way down to the knees. It was funny for us but not so funny for him. The surf is not that rough most days but it will be rough many times during the week. The ocean is pretty in Vero, though.

...and if you do not own at Vero, it if really tough to get one of the cottages, especially for more than a day or two.

I saw that for this summer there were cottage available for August, which I know could be hit or miss with storms. But, the cottage looked pretty nice.

I thought I read some where the beach was in a little better shape these days.
I went to Bermuda about 12 years ago and there almost no beach at our resort due to hurricanes the previous year but it was still nice.

My boys are teens, so they are okay with the ocean and waves.

We were down a couple weeks ago. I asked to tour one of the cottages. We toured the first one to the left of the main hotel area. It looked great to us. The beach isn't a cliff, though when the tide is in, there isn't a lot of room for spreading out. As far as that goes, I don't really care much for east coast Florida beaches for swimming anyway.

One thing I can't seem to figure out about the Beach Cottages...None of them are handicap accessible! Unless there is one with a ramp to the 2nd floor, it would be impossible for families with a member in a wheelchair to stay there. The same for the Grand Villas at Hilton Head Island - all of them are 2nd story entrance.

The HHI Grand Villas are really nice - especially with the real wood burning fireplace!

BUT - it is a pain in the rear loading in and out!

We are going to have to try Vero Beach sometime - but it won't be this year... unfortunately!

Yes, none of the BC are HA.I struggle to get up/down steps.

Even though they are not Handicap Accessible, we are taking our DD12 who is in a wheelchair this year. We were lucky to get 3 nights in a Beach Cottage, so we are going to try it out. Hopefully it won't be too much of a pain, but we are looking forward to it!

We had a beach cottage for two nights last August. This is an album specifically of the beach cottage. It wasn't the pink that we saw in a lot of pics online, so I would say that yes, it's been refurbed. We LOVED it. Such an awesome experience.

We will be staying in a beach cottage for the first time this Spring- can hardly wait! Do you usually request a specific beach cottage? If so, which one? Thanks for any suggestions.

when we went in October the beach was so much better than the october before. It was a cliff 3 years ago and somewhat better the following year but it was much better this year. They have a Beach wheel chair you can borrow as well. we used it for my dad it had the big inflated wheels but it was still difficult in the sand .
