I had this bright idea today how nice it would be to get away after Christmas since we don't have to go back to school until Jan. 5th next year. I thought Vero would be our best choice as far as weather and relaxing. (We're going to WDW in Aug.). So....what are my chances of getting a 1 br now for Dec.? Anyone been at this time of year? What's the weather like???

I'm not sure about your chances on getting the room... If you are going after New Year's, you might have better luck..

I spent a week down at VB in Mid December last year, and am also going again during the same timeframe this year...

Last December, the weather fluxuated a bit... The weather was great for 5 of the 8 days last year.... Nice.. Warm.. Swimmable...

We had two days of rain... But it wasn't too bad.. We just got some movies to watch, and went shopping... The rain actually forced us to slow down a bit, and I sat our on our balcony finishing a good book. :D

One day, a cold front came in and the wind picked up... My DW and I didn't think it was too bad... For us native Michiganders it was just sweatshirt weather...

You can always cross your fingers and call. You never know. Last NYE was a washout with a ton of rain in the area. Then again it could be sunny and 80. The ocean water did stay pretty warm with temps in the mid to low 70s in Dec. The Inn is decorated beautifully for the holidays.

Chirstmas is a gamble with the weather, especially with the main entertainment at Vero being the pool or ocean. The resort is decorated beautifully, it is very relaxing and wonderful when the weather cooperates. They have christmas carolers (sp?) in the lobby at times, lots of litte extra activities like baloon making baloon animals, etc. it's definitely a nice trip especially if your looking for a relaxing pace.

Calling MS will be quicker than our guesses and infinitely more accurate as to 1BR availability. :)

We went two Christmas' ago and if we weren't planning on renovating our house, I'd be adding an OKW resale so we can always spend Christmas in Vero on our VB points. The resort is decorated tastefully for the holidays but not quite so overwhelming Christmassie as say Main Street. There were a number of activities going on at the time...most of which we didn't do but my sister, nephew and b-i-l did some of them. We did do the Campfire sing-a-long but didn't stay long as the CM's didn't really know any caroles nor did we know any of the songs they were singing...I guess the songs we grew up with are now politically incorrect. We tried to do the star watching/gazing, but the weather didn't cooperate.

Weather in VB can be iffy....normally the weather at that time of year is warm by Yankee standards, but it can be freezing or a nice balmy temperature. We had nice warm weather meaning we were swimming in the heated pool while the locals were wearing light jackets.

Unlike WDW, VB has a list of local restaurants and activities you may opt to explore. Its all kept in a book in the lobby.

As far as the resort restaurants, we were extremely disappointed with Sonya's. Well, we were set-up to be so...when we made PS's for christmas day, it was for a 'holiday' buffet...the buffet was normally scheduled for that night. When we arrived we learned they had cancelled the buffet and were going with the standard menu...which is _not_ Christmas dinner. :( My sister's family enjoyed their meal but wifeypoo's was overcooked and whatever I had (I think it was steak) was not going to be good because I had my sites set on a holiday meal. We decided at that point any future Christmas day meals in VB would be ordered from Publix and heated in our room. [Yes...for those of you who don't cook on vacation, the kitchen is usually fully functional :p ]

Hope this helps,
Joe

When I originally posted, I wasn't able to call MS so I just asked the question here as I knew by the time I got home, I might have some responses. You know how anxious one gets when the idea of another vacation becomes feasible;)

Anyway...........I did call MS today and they do have our dates available. Not sure if we are going to go ahead and use our points in December considering we are taking a vacation in August. The thought is extremely tempting! VB sounds wonderful. I found a website yesterday from someone's post (I think) and can't for the life of me find it now that had some great pictures of VB. Anyone know?

There are some in the pic link below.Just look for the VB albums.
They were taken at different times in 02.

Yes, that was it! Thanks a bunch. Can't wait to show DH when he gets home.
