Orlando and Savannah. There is a small airport at Melborne.

Savannah is a 45 minute drive from Hilton Head. I use Orlando for Vero Beach a 1 hour 20 minute drive. You can use West Palm Beach but you may run into more traffic (my experience). Never used Melbourne but I believe it will be more expensive and have less options for rental cars and flights.

Vero Beach.
I'd use Orlando ( just under 2 hours would be my best guess) or West Palm Beach. I'd guess at a push you could use Ft Lauderdale or Miami. Miami's going to be about a 3-4 hour drive depending on conditions.

Hilton Head.
Does have it's own airport, but I believe the only scheduled flights are shuttles from Charlotte. Savannah is the nearest decent sized airport. I've driven from Charlotte, it wasn't too bad a drive and I think it took about 4-5 hours.

VB -- have flown into both West Palm and Melbourne. Have to say Melbourne is my choice when I can get a good price. Rental cars haven't been a problem there and the location is convenient.

Same is true for HH. I prefer flying into HH because it's so convenient. Savannah is also fine, but often there's not much difference in fares from Boston(if you plan ahead).

I'm not paying for a family, however, so the price of convenience doesn't usually stop me.

If you're willing to drive 4-5 hours, you might also want to check flights into Atlanta, which may open up more options for you.

For Vero we love flying into Melbourne. We were lucky to get a good fare and good connections with Delta - the fare was slightly higher than Orlando, but it was worth it to us for a shorter drive. Melbourne is a wonderful, small airport and the drive down to Vero is very easy from there.

Because we hate to take connecting flights (from Indy) we fly to Orlando when we go to Vero - often split a trip between OKW and Vero. And we fly to Jacksonville - about 3 hours away for Hilton Head.

For VB, the absolute closest airport is Melbourne, but flights to it can sometimes be expensive. If oyu catch it right though, you are probably 30-45 minutes form VB if you fly into Melbourne.

The next 2 closest would be West Palm and Orlando.

Daytona might be fairly close too, although I am not 100% sure about that. Perhaps a native Floridian could help???

We just went to Vero and flew into Orlando, the flights were WAY cheaper and we got a direct flight. Took us about an hour and 15 minutes.
