Vero Beach add on came through. Should we take it?

Should we take the VB add on?

  • Take the 150 pts. You love VB!

  • Don't take it. Just pay cash and look for discounts!

  • Take 100 pts.

It's been crazy around here.

First, a VWL add on came through and we decided not to go through with it.

Then, 150 pts at VB came through.

Not quite sure what we should do.

We are moving to Florida and may be able to stay on cash for close to what we pay for pts and dues.

Of course, We're going to think about it and make the best decision but I'd love to hear your opinions.

vb has the highest dues of any of the DVC resorts - they are on the beach - so maintence is fairly high - plus all the services

I love having the 11 month window for booking VB.
If you're not ready for the 150, go for 100.
It will make a super weekend get away for you guys.

Can you get MB for a 150 pt. add on?

It seems to me that there are bargin resale add-ons for VB, why aren't you considering those?

Our first trip to VB is during my spring break, and I can't wait to see if we will like it. A move to Florida is in our not too distant future, and I'm interested to see what others say to you.

What is the price of the add on points?

We are thinking of possibly adding on at VB and thought the resale route would be less expensive

I know at one point it was $74 a point and you keep the points and $69 if you gave first use year back

thanks

The price is $84 per pt. and I can either take MB for $15 per point or Vero Dollars for $10 per point. So, I am either looking at $69 or $74 per point.

I just don't know what to do.

We will go to VB no matter what.

Let's say we go in October for 8 nights (Sat. through the following Sunday). We always stay in an inn ocean view room. The rate is $180 per night with 11% tax which is $199.80 total. We would probably use some discount-either Birnbaum or FL. resident if we could get it. I was offered a rate of $136 on this room last month and that included tax and housekeeping. 8 nights at a discounted rate is $1,088.

If we use pts it is 108 pts x $10 pt=$1,080 plus $200 for houskeeping and $504.36 in dues. A stay on points would cost us around $1,784.36

Am I figuring this incorrectly. Should I not be using $10 per pt. as a guide?

We live in Central Florida and own at Vero and I would not have it any other way. We will primarly use our points at Vero and any trips to the Disney resorts will either be last minute or because we have friends or family that will also be there. If we can not get a room last minute, we will drive the 25 minutes back home (poor us). Yes, the dues at Vero are high(er), but, depending on the room type they still are cheaper than paying cash. I don't know what type of room you usually get and obviously that makes a difference, but at this stage in our family we are fine with an Inn room, garden view. We can stay 20 days if we stay during Adventure or Choice season (160 points). 20 days for less than $750 is a great deal.

Now, I will be the first to say there are A LOT of flaws with the above "argument". First it does not take into account the initial payout for the points. Second, it assumes you are going during the off season, weeknights only. Third, it assumes you are happy in an Inn Room, garden view.

So, my logic may not help you at all, but it is how we look at it (even adding in the original points cost, it is still around $1000, still a great deal for a possible 20 nights stay). We would have to get really good cash discounts!!

Good luck whatever you decide!!

I would take the 100 pts at $69 pt. You won't have to worry about airfare, rental cars, hopper passes. Even if you give up your 1st year pts.......you will have the pts for 37 more years.::yes::

If you enjoy going to VB, and are only a few hours car ride away.........that would be a easy decision for me.;)

Ok, we were posting at the same time....here is how "I" would look at your situation....
I would not value the points at $10 per point, instead I would say they are worth $69x150/38 years=$272.37 (or $1.82 per point).
So, $1.82+4.67 (dues)=$6.49 per point.
Your October stay is 108 points, so that is $700.47. Add your housekeeping and the total us $900.47. So you would "save" $188 going with points.

This does not take into account the interest (if any) you pay on the loan for the points.

Again, this is just my opinion, I am sure there will be many people who have a different outlook.

Just bumping.

I'm going to call our guide tomorrow as he took a few days vacation and told us we could think about it.

I still don't know what we are going to do.

floridafam, do you know what use year(s) are on offer?

thanks
jaysue

Our guide just told us that the offers were available for the particular pts that came through for our use year.

I'm sure there has to be more than one use year out there with some pts left or pts that came back because someone changed their mind.

The $15 a pt. MB is a nice incentive but I'm still not sure if we are going to do it or not.

Are you on the waitlist for some VB pts?

Not on the wait list but DW liked it so much we are considering taking points at VB potentially partially financed by a sale of 50 of our 320 BCV points

thanks

If you love it, definitely go for the entire 150 points!!!! I subscribe to the conventional board wisdom of "Buy here you want to stay!

Hey, there!

My $.02 is this: You're going to be making a major life change (moving from MI to FL) - that doesn't seem the best time to be making other long-term decisions. Is it possible that living in FL would alter your vacation desires?

If this add-on is a never.gonna.get.this.chance.again offer, then that's different. But I'd get the move over with, and see how your lives and wishes change before making that decision.

Best of Luck!

I say no - try this for Vero resale.

170 points all 2002-2004 avail for $10,000

So that's $58.82 or $38.82 if you sell the 2002-2003 points at $10. They also have lots listed for low $60's. I bet you could get any of them for under $60. I have not had any interaction with this firm however.
