Hello! The kids and I are headed a bit north to the beach in the winter. Gotta love it!

Can anyone tell me what kind of activities they have for the kids? Are there DVD players in the Ocean View Inn rooms? Do they have crafts, hiking, etc.?

Anything that I should take that wouldn't already be in my "pseudo Disney locker" (that lives in my garage)?

Thanks for your comments and help!

They have someting going on almost all day long.

From crafts to games to sports.

They have many additional items you can check out and use around the pool area.

Bug spray We didn't need it but we didn't do a lot of outside night activities we did watch a good bit of the DVDs but we were not OF .

DVD players are in every room (DVC members can rent 2 per day complementary), keep in mind they are not ocean front rooms but "ocean view" meaning that about 1/3 of them are on on the side.... activities vary daily and if you have a fax machine call the resort directly and they will fax you a list for that week.

I just got back from 3 days at Vero Beach. here was a full roster of activities all day for all ages and we definitely used the DVD player in our Ocean View Inn Room. It was our first stay there and was really very nice. Unfortunately there was a "red algae bloom" in progress which irritates the lungs and had everyone in the resort coughing all day through our whole stay, but this was just bad luck in our timing I guess.

Vero Beach was great. I hope to get beack there again in a few years when my kids are old enough to participate in the activites.

I think since VB and HHI are not WDW resorts that these resorts pay very special attention to extra activities. The CMs at these resorts are absolute professionals in entertainment and also serve as the life guards. The kids just love them. If all else fails there other things to do around VB. Here is my cut and paste info of other activities:

Across the street they have a lake, picnic tables, nature trail, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Disney built a private tunnel under the road to access this area. And of course they have the ocean and great waves for boogy boarding. Everything from the ocean to the pool to your room is no more than 2 minutes away walking. So it is real easy to break up your day

5 minutes away is Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge and a wildlife education center. Just a few minutes further up the road is Sebastian Inlet State Park were the Indian River meets the ocean. There are many good fishing spots around the inlet, and there are river excursions where you can see dolphins, manatee, and tons of other types of wildlife. About an hour north is Port Canaveral, (where the Magic and Wonder dock), the Kennedy Space Center visitor complex, and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with walking and driving tours. 20 minutes south is McKee Botanical Garden (18 acres) with some REALLY cool vegetation and trees. 30 minutes south in Fort Piece is the Manatee Observation and Education Center.

Thanks for this thread -- we're going in less than two weeks so I'm reading up on activity options -- and this one looks like fun to watch: Pro Surfing Contest at Sebastian Inlet State Park...
