Vermonters Take on The World Day 3

Cast of Characters

Me 28- Anal Trip planner
DH- 38 Theme park HATER
DD8 (7 then) fearless one of the bunch…
DD7 (6 then) the princess lover

I awake about 7:30, roll over to see DD’s still sleeping, DH snoring away as usual. I decide, I’ll let them sleep today we’ve got a big day, and a long night! Today is our Magic Kingdom Day! Included in today’s plans is Wishes. I don’t plan on leaving the park until they force me out!

Around 8, they start rising. DD7 first. “Didn’t Mickey call today?” Well dear, when ya hang up on the ol mouse, he’s not going to be too willing to call ya back. Geez, some kids! She jumps in the shower, as I get everyone’s clothes out. I wake up DH and tell him I’m going outside- yup, me the smoker, stuck in a non-smoking building. Being the disser that I am, I don’t smoke on the walkway/balcony thing. I trek down the 3 flights of stairs, and head for the little courtyard that’s behind our building. Chat with a few other smokers, who like me, got a non-smoking building. See, we’re not all inconsiderate smokers!

Make my way back up to the room, and DD8 is just getting out of the shower, DD7 is dressed and ready to go, and I find DH lying back in bed. What part of “wake up” do you not understand? That means, GET UP OUTTA BED! It’s Magic Kingdom day! I get DH into motion, and the girls and I head down to the food court to fill up their refillable mugs. Yes- Soda in the AM. Lets not forget, we’re on vacation, and we go “hog wild!” I let them swim in an indoor pool a few days earlier- soda at 830 isn’t going to kill them. Heck at this rate, DD8 might just get on Rockn Roller Coaster! 9am, and we’re all sitting on the Magic Kingdom Bus. Again, no wait, and we we’re at the Kingdom in no time, well, okay the TTC first..but then we did get there quick!

First things first when we get to MK… main concern?? Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. That’s the goal for the day. And by this time, we’ve MASTERED the fast pass system. We get to BTMRR, and the wait time is 30 minutes. The fast passes are for a return time about 1 hour away. What to do what to do? Well, I KNOW the kids are gonna want to do this again, so we fast pass, and get in line! We got through the line in about 20 minutes, so about ½ hour later we were done with the ride. We’ve got between ½ and 1 ½ hour to return to it again. DD’s want to go on Splash Mountain. Hhmm it’s early and we’re gonna get wet. Not a good idea! We take the raft over to Tom Sawyers Island, and hang out there for an hour. Head back to BTMRR and something weird has happened. The wait- well, there isn’t one. We walk on, the regular line. Ride, get back in the fast pass line. 3 times in 2 hours we rode it. From here, DD7 really wanted to find Cinderella. We head over to Mickey’s Toon Town Fair, and low and behold- THERE SHE IS! Who you ask? Aren’t you paying attention? Cinderella…DD7’s wish has come true. She wants to go back through again- so we do it, twice more actually. The 2nd and 3rd time, all she wanted to do was talk to her. “Do you really live in the Castle?” “yes my princess I do” “Is Prince Charming anywhere near here?” “No sweetheart, he’s gone to work” She was in HEAVEN! And that’s an understatement.

From here, we do our usual. Meander around and hit the stuff they want to hit. Today at MK…we
The Barnstormer- OMG was that a riot!
Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
Buzz Lightyear
Astro Orbiter
Peter Pans Flight
Winnie The Pooh
And back to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! For the 4th time that day!

We also spent quite a bit of time just watching people, and were able to meet a ton of characters. We did see some disturbing things and I’ll fill you in on these now.

At Barnstormer- The ride, while watching it looks like it’s a lot faster than it is. For little kids I’m sure it looks WAY faster. In front of us in line- the 20 minute line was a father holding his daughter- she was probably 4. Talked quite well- but was a good 6-8 inches shorter than DD6, so I’m guessing 4. She screamed the entire 20 minutes we were in line. She did NOT want to go on the ride. He kept saying “you’ll be fine” “it’s not that scary” “stop being a baby” etc. etc. By the time we got to the loading area, I figured he’d walk off. Yeah, sure. He put her in the barnstormer car, and she was really screaming now. Did the CM say anything? Nope. Did any of us? Nope. The little girl SCREAMED the entire ride. She was still screaming when they walked away. DD8 said “mom that little girl is going to be scared of roller coasters when she gets bigger” I said- yes, she probably is. What more could I say? The father was probably thinking “all the money I spent on this vacation, your going to go on the rides” etc. etc. Geez….

Disturbing thing #2
Stitch. We’d been looking for this little bugger, and every time we thought we were close, he’d disappear! No kidding. Magic- just GONE! One minute I see him, the next. Gone.
He was coming out in front of the castle. We were the 6th family in line- yes- I said 6th. Behind us was a mom, dad and DD who was 5. We were chatting with them as we passed the time. They walked up RIGHT as we did. Had we stepped 1 foot slower, they’d have been 6th not 7th. We wait, the kids are excited, this little girl- she was a stitch fanatic. This was their last day at WDW, and the first time they’d been able to find the little bugger. All of a sudden the CM starts “stitch will be leaving in 5 minutes” “stitch will be leaving in 4 minutes” etc. etc. then he walks over to us and says “you’ll be the last family” I look at DH and say OMG, this little girl is gonna be heart broken. The CM says “how many in your party?” I reply QUICK with a 7 yes, I lied to the CM I said SEVEN. He says okay and walks off. He proceeds to tell everyone in the back “sorry stitch has to go after this family up front” that would be us. We get to stitch, and the 3 girls go up- I said to DD’s back up a second so we can get pictures of you guys separate. The mom gets ready to snap the picture of the girl, and the CM steps in front of her. “your not part of that family, I said they were the last ones” I jumped forward and said- “were a party of 7 I told you that”… he tells the little girl “you cant get your picture with stitch it’s these girls turn. So I say to the CM “just let her go, we’ll find stitch tomorrow” “nope, she was BEHIND YOU IN LINE SHES NOT GETTING A PICTURE”… he then tells me “stitch is here and ready for your girls, I suggest you get your picture. You’ll see, in the picture of my DD’s with Stitch- they’re not looking at the camera- where are they looking? At that little 4 year old girl who is bawling because she cant get her picture taken with Stitch. Ruined her day didn’t ya you jerk face CM! Now this would have been different had he said “you 4 are the last ones” but he asked me and I said SEVEN…not FOUR but SEVEN!!!!

Okay back to the story.

We rest, we walk, we rest, we eat, oh yea- EAT…where did we eat today.. well, lets see. I had bought a few Q&C vouchers from a fellow Disser- THANKS A BUNCH! And figured we’d use them today. We went to Cosmic Rays. Used the Vouchers, and DH couldn’t believe the amount of food I carried over to the table. LOL anal planner I am, I knew what we were eating before we left Vermont. Once again, the food was good. The portions were HUGE.. and there was a school band playing while we ate. Pretty cool!

One thing I’ll give WDW counter service- they are QUICK..you don’t spend much time in line or waiting for your food that’s for sure! And the food was always hot if it was suppose to be, and cold if that was the case.

We decided after lunch which was pretty late, that we’d head back over and check out Swiss Family Tree House. The kids thought this was the coolest, and begged DH to build them one of their own. Yeah- sure, we live in Vermont, but we don’t grow tree’s like that here!

We stayed pretty late, and got perfect seats in Liberty Square for the Spectromagic Parade. I apologize now, all of my night pics were on 35MM film, and they’re not scanned in. This parade- HOLY MOLY….you wanna talk about a “not to miss?” This is it. It was unbelievable. We met a nice family from Connecticut while sitting on the sidewalk waiting. They are at WDW yearly as they have a timeshare in Orlando. The father was very talkative. We hit it off LOL . Now mind you- we got our seats, about an hour before the parade started. Nobody was there. Okay, maybe a few people, but we had our pick of spots. DH walked around the corner and got a Turkey Leg, and brought the DD’s back Mickey ice cream bars. I guess he forgot about me, so I went and got my own! The parade was about to start, as this wonderfully RUDE woman decided she was going to park her family of 10 right in front of my family of 4. I don’t think so. I might be on vacation, but sweetie- you snooze you loose! I ever so nicely. (yeah, sure) say “excuse me, but my daughters have been sitting here for over an hour to see this parade, would you mind moving somewhere else?” Now- my girls- they were sitting right at the rope. No way could you sneak in front of them. Well, I guess there was a way, cause these people did. She looked at me and said “well, if you cant see, you can move”. Ummmm I don’t think so. So…just as luck would have it, a CM was walking by. I called him over, and explained that we, along with this other family of 4 had been sitting here for over an hour, and expected to be able to see the parade. I explained what I said, and what she said. The other mom- yeah the nice one, verified my story. He went over to the witch, I mean, the other lady, and told her she would have to move. She looked at him like he had slapped her across the face, and said “I don’t think so, I paid for my ticket, I’m sitting right here” The CM stood his ground and said “ma’am you can either move, so this other family who was here first can see, or I can have security escort you out of the park. Well, lets just say- she moved!

We stayed in Liberty square area until everyone else had moved out. I knew Wishes was going to be VERY packed…I said to DH lets just stand here, we can see it from here, we don’t need to be right at the Castle. He agreed, so we slowly walked towards the castle. They started and we stopped dead in our tracks. Now we’ve got some serious fireworks here in Vermont. We’ve got 1 of the best shows in New England every August right here in our home town. Well, they had NOTHING on WDW’s wishes…nothing at all! The 4 of us just stood there, in awe. Once they were over, we walked to the main gate even slower. I think we were some of the last to leave. I knew there would be a wait for a bus. I hoped and prayed they’d split the All Star buses… We got to the bus, and sure enough, they split them. There was a minimal wait, I’d say about 10 minutes. The kids were exhausted, and it didn’t seem like THAT long of a wait, even for them. DD7 fell asleep on the way back to the resort. She didn’t wake up until DD8 flushed the turbo toilet! I tell ya that thing can wake the dead!

The girls showered quickly, and climbed into bed. By the time all was said and done, lights went out about midnight! Long day yes, but we slept late.

Tomorrow was Magic Kingdoms Early Entry day. We were planning on going to Animal Kingdom in the AM and then Epcot for late afternoon/illuminations. Again, no wake up call for us. These DD’s need their sleep!

Next up, Day 4

DAY 4

Great reports...and good for the parade CM to stick up for you when that lady tried to get your places. :)

Too bad about the Stitch thing...I know you tried so hard to do the right (magical) thing.

Keep the reports coming!!! :)

I just want to say Thank you for taking the time to post your trip report I am enjoying it very much. I too am a over planner but when it comes to a trip to WDW unless you have a lot of time to use up it needs allot of fore thought andplanning GOOD JOB

Where in Vermont do you live? Some of hte Best Fireworks in NE? Burlington maybe? just a guess.

Thanks again Dave

Love your trip resport!!! The stitch CM was very disturbing--that was terrible. Some people can be so rude, I'm glad that other CM helped you out.

We're in Southern Vermont. Rockingham Old Homes days is the event that tout's the "biggest and the baddest"...

I'm glad you all are enjoying the reports!

We'll have to check that out, I love that part of the state I was born and raised in Keene, my sister lived in Acworth and tought in Vermont school systems for years. I am sure she knows about it.

Thanks again for the great report I am enjoying it very much.

Great report, sounds like a great day! My DS is almost 4, and on our trip last month, we waited in line for the Barnstormer, then he decided he didn't want to ride, so we didn't. Poor little girl that was forced, that was me when I was about 6, and I still don't like big coasters!

Steph

We witnessed a similar occurence on Space Mountain. A guy put his 7 year old (I think) daughter in the seat in front of him and was HOLDING her down from behind. Fortunately the CM spoke to him and they got off the ride. He looked FURIOUS and I felt so bad for the little girl.

Your DDs encounter with Cinderella reminded me of when my youngest (then 7) met Mary Poppins. She was so thrilled and started firing off the questions. Barbara Walters watch out!!
