Verizon Wireless has came out with new unlimited data plans with the cheapest one starting at $35/4 lines. I think it is called 5G Start. I went online and they gave me a "guestimate" of $250 a month. My current bill on The New Verizon Plan Unlimited runs me around $280 for my four lines. So what gives? Is there a catch? I would love to shave $30 a month off of my bill. Advice?

I believe this is one of the few times where having an older grandfathered plan is not cheaper than the new plans. I know my family had the "Large" Verizon Plan Unlimited (when the plans were something like Small, Medium, Large, and Xtra Large) and when I looked into it when they first launched these new 5G plans, it was either the same price or $10/mo cheaper with the ability to use the 5G network (I think the old plan you're on does not include 5G access but don't hold me to that).

Doesn’t ur phone type determine whether that Upgrade for 5g even works ? If ur not using a new phone, u can’t get the 5g regardless? Or.. was it, the newer phones have the 5g capability built in but a model a year or two out doesn’t?

And..isn’t Verizon giving that upgrade to existing customers on certain plans already? I thought I saw an email. Will have to read rather than skim it.
Isnt someone on the basic plan… ur connectivity is After everyone that is 5g capable, that’s in the language where certain phone types get priority usage over basic plan people. Can’t seem to get online as quick, slowed down times??

If anyone chooses to explain it TIA. It’s why so many just pay that bill rather than trying to keep up to date on the tech stuff. Clearly, over my head lol

I’m on an old grandfathered Verizon XL 16 GB family share plan and 5G is included in my plan at no extra cost.

We’re holding onto this plan as long as we can; even though four of us are on it, we have 14GB of bonus data for life on the plan, making it 30GB a month with rollover data, and I get 20% off the base plan due to my workplace affiliation - thus, it’s less expensive than any unlimited plan ($72 base after discount, $20/line, so $152 + taxes) - as even the Start unlimited would require us to switch autopay to our checking account to get the $35/month whereas we can autopay with my CBIC to get 5% back on this plan. The only time we come close to using that per month is when we’re doing 2+ weeks vacation with limited access to WiFi.

I found out that 2 of our phones aren’t even capable of 5G usage… so guess it’s nothing for us.

We have phones on start unlimited and one on play more to get free Disney+/Hulu/espn. Our bill is only $150/mo for 4 phones. It was actually same price or cheaper than our prior plan. They wanted to entice people to move over to these plans.

I think I may be missing something but why would your bill be $250 when it’s $35/line x 4 lines? We have Verizon for $30/line (older plan but unlimited) and with taxes it bumps us up to $35/line and we get the 5G when available. We pay $144/month. I would think your regular monthly should be around $160 (first month will be more with the activation fees). Sorry if I’m missing something!

We have payments on our phones.

gotcha! As existing customers, we just traded in our old iPhones (three weeks ago) and got the 13 for free. Worked out well for us. I was surprised I got the trade-in deal on my SE as it only cost me $400 2 years ago!

We are on the old Large plan with 8GB and bonus data, and rollover, and we too never even come close to using it. I priced unlimited and our bill would have gone up too.

I really wish I had added our youngest sooner, as then we’d have 32GB data, but I was holding out because I didn’t think he needed his own phone line before 12 and didn’t want to pay the $20/month. Oh well! Given that we so rarely run into the limit, I’m not worried about it. I did check out the new starter offer, but to get the $140/month, I’d need to give up the 5% back on the bill, and those are UR points that I get significantly more value out of than the 5% as I transfer them to flight award tickets. Also, I’ve heard reports that the unlimited plans are throttled a lot during peak times/high congestion, and thus those on the old grandfathered plans often have better/faster service.

These monthly bills are insane! We pay $108 for three lines + a tablet, but we don't have (or even want) unlimited, and we always pay cash when we trade phones.

We have the same plan and our bill is $249 for four phones. All the phones are paid for. Out of curiosity, I went to see what their “new’ 5g plan would cost us. It looks like for us it is $80 more! We pay $100 for the plan which includes a $10 auto pay discount. Then the taxes and fees are added on along with a $17 a month fee for 3 phones for the replacement coverage. With their new “deal” they keep emailing and texting me about that plan would go up to $190. No thanks….will stick with what I have which is already unlimited.

funny update, I got a text today offering me an additional $20 off per month on unlimited, so my bill increased just a couple of dollars, and now we all have unlimited, and will be eligible for the good phone offers next go round.

We have AT&T unlimited elite for $40 per line. Unlimited data plus hbo max. If we didn’t have phone payments, our bill would be $170 per month. I am not sure what a 5G plan is. My phone has always used 5G where it was available.

Verizon is a joke. We have Cricket with 3 lines $90/month unlimited everything. Excellent customer service and we buy our phones outright and pay cash. Excellent coverage everywhere in the US.

Not where I am.

Same! For the longest time Verizon vowed never to offer unlimited again.

Verizon never gives quotes after taxes. I’d worry $250 would quickly top $280 after taxes and surcharges.

We pay $30 a month for Boost Mobile. Unlimited everything. Never pay more than $30 per month.
