My DD's phone died. The warranty has expired and we can't get new phones (without a hefty fee) until Dec. Her friend just upgraded their phones and DD's friend gave my DD her old one. Can we add the friend's phone to our plan so DD has a phone until we all upgrade? Both are Verizon.

Yes. I have done it myself when my phone quit before my renewal was available. You may even be able to change the phone online, if not just go to a verizon store and they will do it for you.

Thank you so much...you may have made a 15yo 's day

I was able to switch dd's phone to an old one my DH had on the Verizon website last year without too much trouble. You should be able to do it. If you have them do it in the store they might charge a fee but it's not much $10 or so. I always hold onto my old phones just in case.

Just did this with my DD's phone...well my husband did, and he did it on the Verizon website, but I am not sure exactly where it was.

Thank you everyone. I just logged in and it worked out great. It took about 10 minutes and it was very easy. I'm not sure if any of you have ever seen a 15yo without a phone but it's not pretty.

This struck me as funny...I'm only in my 30's and *I* was a 15 year old without a phone...as was ALL 15 year olds at the time (as I'm sure you were too!). :) What a change in only a few years!! :)

(I am NOT putting OP or her daughter down at ALL - her comment above is 100% accurate - a15 year old without a phone today is NOT pretty, if she has been used to having a phone)

I did that with DD12's phone last year, her old one had a badly cracked screen so I took my old phone is and activated it under her number, it took about 10 minutes tops and we were good to go. She used my old phone until I was able to upgrade her to a new one, we still have that phone just in case. :)

:thumbsup2 We save our old phones from previous contracts so that we don't have to pay for insurance. That way if anything happens, we can just add on an old phone. DD12 is using my last phone as her first one- we weren't going to start a new contract just for her. Only one we carry the insurance on is DH's iphone- the rest are just plain old phones-texting and phone service- no data packages- so we don't want to pay extra for insurance.

Just make sure you get the phone added online or over the phone- they wanted to charge me $35 if I had them do it at the store.

This must not have been in a VZW corporate store. There is no charge.

You can also change to a different phone following these steps -

Press #228 option 1 on the new phone. Follow the prompts entering the number you want to put on the phone. Very easy!:cool1:

Yes it should work. It should take just calling Verizon and telling them you want to switch service to a different phone. ...and there should be NO CHARGE

We had a so called Verizon store wanting to charge us to re activate DH's pld phone after the new one died just after the warranty expired. Went to Best Buy and they did it for free. As previous posters have said if it is not a coporate owned Verison store, but an Authorized dealer they will they will try to charge you.
