Still a good time to drop these big companies that even try stuff like this and go with the other options out there. What will they try next time? What fee will they impose that will not get the press that this one did?

Bank of America tried the same thing earlier this year.

There are plenty of non contract phone providers out there that do not charge anything close to what Verizon, AT&T, Sprint charge.

The same is true of banks, visit a local hometown bank or a credit union and see what they have to offer.

Send a message to these companies that want to stick it to the consumers every chance they get and then "change their mind" after all the negative press.

I had a feeling they would. It was all over the news...they were getting a pretty BAD RAP. :thumbsup2

The explanation I read said they had already received many complaints about this change.

What amazes me is that they actually thought they would be able to pull this off. Do the people who make these decisions not have any access to any sort of media outlet? I can't believe that with what happened with BOA and Netflix that Verizon still thought that their customers would just take this added $2 fee without a fuss.

I think the FCC announced they would be investigating it.

So between all the consumer complaints and then that, they backed down. I figured they would just from the complaints.

I'm pretty sure this was announced yesterday.

Also, there are other issues than price... for me, I don't care if a cell phone is free if I only get service next to the interstates. Verizon has the best service in our area.

There are other issue definitely but that does not mean I want a company to rob me blind.
This fee was not going to enhance service (as was evident because they had almost 4 power outages in the last few weeks) nor was in enhancing customer service.
It was not covering so called increase cost because anyone who has ever done ecommerce knows it's a ridiculously cheap way to operate a business. and the idea that it cost them more to process a one time payment as oppose to snail mail is so ludicrous to almost be science fiction.

So while I have no problem with other considerations I do have a big problem with a company trying to rape my pockets for nothing more than greed.
