Verizon, the new fee and something for your dog!!!!!!

I know alot of people were talking about leaving Sprint and moving to Verizon....but I despise Verizon and will do everything I can to NEVER go back to them. In my experience their customer service stinks! DH works for a company that has accounts with both Verizon and Sprint because not both are available in all the areas they use, so they need both. So we are eligible to get a discount with either or. Verizon will only discount the first phone line 20%. Sprint will discount the first TWO phone lines 25%!! And they have great rates on the third and fourth phone lines!! Plus night rates start at 7pm not 9 and we have FREE calls to ANY other Cell phone no matter which carrier that cell phone is with which is perfect for my teens! :thumbsup2 And they are the only ones with true unlimited data plans. I really don't know why people are going back to verizon especially now that they have started this. Sprint has bent over backwards with customer service for us! They have always waved the activation fees. You just have to wait until the first 30 days are up and then they will credit your account the cost if you ask. They always have for us. Never ever had a problem. Verizon is a pain in the butt!! When DH had emergency surgery last summer and I needed to change my payment dates around a bit because he went on S/T disability and we cut everything that wasn't necessary (got rid of house phone but kept cell since it was under contract, even got rid of internet) anyway I needed a few extra days because of dealing with so much stuff at the hospital etc...Sprint was GREAT! Said call us when you can we noted your account. Verizon was a PITA when I wanted to cancel the houseline. you know what? We never got another! We haven't missed it!! And I love not sending verizon that $48 a month for a phone we never really used anyway!! LOL But to each his/her own.... :rolleyes1

Our 2nd line was NOWHERE near $9.99 a month! Actually the second line was my DH's line and he was the one who was eligible for the discount but my line was the primary account # as we added his. His line cost just as much as mine!! and third and fourth lines were $19.99 each not 9.99. I have old bills around here somewhere as proof. Sorry, Verizon rates suck IMO!

I've never had problems with Verizon, well I shouldn't say never but in the end it's always worked out perfectly for me. I pay $9.99 for the 3 extra lines on my account, we have unlimited texts and calls to all Verizon customers (most of our family) and we have Friends and Family which means unlimited calls and texts to numbers we have on a certain list, it's no extra charge and it covers all our friends and the girls friends who don't have Verizon, I have unlimited text and picture messages, I have unlimited data and I've never paid activation fees or upgrade fees. Sure, that may change when I upgrade my next phone, but if it does I will deal with it then.

I'll keep Verizon as long as possible, it offers the best coverage for my area and the prices are competitive.

I'm over every one of these big cell service providers. They all work solely to rip people off left and right; even their customers of many years.

We were US Cellular customers for almost 20 years, and after getting bad phone after bad phone, poor customer service, and significant price increases every two years, finally decided to cancel their service and go with AT&T through a 15% off company discount. :thumbsup2

I've found their service overall to be the same, although very poor in highly populated areas. We live in the suburbs, so it's not really a big deal most of the time.

My line (reimbursed) is about $100 per month, which includes 450 minutes, unlimited nights, weekends, and mobile to mobile minutes, unlimited texting, 3GB of data, and the premium insurance plan for my iPhone. I especially like the rollover minutes, even if I don't use them.

I think I pay a reasonable amount for the services I have. However, the $36 "activation fee" I paid on a $200 phone is ridiculous. :sad2:

Just pulled out the bill that came the other day and checked and the discount is still there... Whew!! you had me worried there for a second! LOL!
Not sure what you are referring to about "when picture mail was included". We don't pay extra to send/receive pictures. :confused3 We never have.
Sorry they didn't do a better job working with you. :(

When you sign up for the unlimited text/picture messaging, that's what I meant. But always when the picture message (they call it picture "mail" for some odd reason) came through or when it was sent, Sprint charged me a data rate for it coming to my phone even though I didn't access the internet from my phone.

There was a thread about the discounts disappearing for the 2nd line. Here is the thread:

I cancelled my Sprint service within a few days of the posting after I received an email from Sprint confirming it could be cancelled w/o the early termination fee. Of course, they tried to charge me the ETF and taxes, til I forwarded them the email saying it was supposed to be waived.

I just called sprint customer care. Gentlemen said that sprint has no "upgrade" but does have a standard activation fee of $36 bucks.

Is this new fee from verizon on top of the activation fee?

Verizon has no activation fee.

Yeah, I saw and followed that thread when it first posted. we haven't lost the discount on our second line. I keep checking. I don't know why. But we haven't. Our bill hasn't changed like others have. I didn't post on that thread cuz I figured it would just cause an uproar if I posted that we didn't lose our discount. Until we have problems or issues, I'm sticking with sprint! They have treated us very well!! :thumbsup2

And we had nothing BUT problems when we were with Verizon! :headache:
We had too many people on too many different carriers to deal with... one sister was on verizon, bbf was on AT&T, my parents were on AT&T, inlaws were on something mobile, sisinlaw was on some unheard of plan... then having to deal with those call lists NO THANK YOU!! the kids change who they talk to too often and here you only got 5#'s TOO MUCH TROUBLE!!! Sprint has free cell to cell no matter who the cell phone carrier is and free to any # starting at 7pm. Works perfect for us!! That's the best part, everybody gets to figure out what works best for them and Sprint works best for us and verizon works best for you. :goodvibes

This is the first I have heard about the new upgrade fee-thanks for posting! Now I won't be surprised and irritated when I go upgrade my phone in a few months! Remember the good old days when they used to GIVE customers $100 towards a new phone if we waited the full 2 years before upgrading? First they take that away and now they CHARGE extra money on top of the phone price to upgrade? Ridiculous. I won't be changing companies because I am happy with my service and have always had good luck with their customer service and my iPhone is grandfathered in with the unlimited data.

As of this past Monday I am officially Verizon free!!!

No more sending them about $200 per month!

No more stupid Verizon employees!
(Someone said 75% - I say higher!)

Verizon worked hard to make me intensely dislike their company.

They have the worst imho customer service.

They could have kept receiving that $200 a month. I wasn't trying to replace them. They just kept goading me into it.

And now they are gone.

i'm going to Disney World with the savings.

Our contract with Verizon is up in May - I was going to upgrade our 3 traditional phones then for smart phones, so will I have to pay $35 for each then? I may be looking for another company!

That's pretty much the only reason (free after 7 pm) that I miss Sprint. I definitely don't miss having to call someone 10+ times to have a 1 hour phone conversation because my phone/carrier drops the calls
