verizon plans going up

I'm glad I left Verizon when I did then with the rate increase. I am very happy with my pay-as-you-go plan from AT&T.

Just an FYI, I don't know if it helps anyone, but if you work for a State Government or the Federal Govt or are in the military, you get a discount through both AT&T and Verizon. I am sure my smart DIS budget board friends knew this, but just in case, I thought I'd mention it. ;)

In addition to this, employees of many companies get discounts from Verizon/Sprint/AT&T that can be used on personal phone plans (individual and shared/family plans qualify). Just find the correct place on the site to enter your work email address and they'll email you letting you know if you're eligible. My mom didn't know about this until I saw it on the 'net and told her - it saved her 17%/month on the family plan we share.

Just an FYI - I get an 18% discount through my work at a University but it is only on the primary line. It does not apply to the other lines on my family plan. I'm not sure if that's how the discount works for everyone, but in my case it is.

I think the comments about the floodgates opening to verizon when the iphone is available is actually inflated. I mean, DH has an iphone, and is eligible for an upgrade soon, his contract is almost up. He will not switch to verizon. Reason being...a big draw of the iphone is that you can talk and surf at the same time. Until Verizon has that capability, I think the loyal iphone users will stick with att.

I was just looking at verizons site and my current 1400 minute talk and text plan has gone up by 10 bucks. Off course we are grandfathered in but verizon just keeps going up.

Verizon's base rate plans have not gone up in over 3 years. If your rate changed, please look into it. Did you add a feature or something else? You can call cust service at *611 to have them check it for you.

On Verizon, once you are in a rate, keep it, meaning do not upgrade minutes or what. If you do, you will have to go to a new rate. I was lucky and grandfathered in to a old rate, then got the work discount on top of it. We just have the basic phones, no smart phones due to the data plan cost.

I am looking into the Virgin Mobile Android as the smart phone. It is the data plan cost at Verizon that gets you. For $30 per month for a two year contract - that is $720, not counting the monthly fee. For us to add this phone to our existing contract would be approximately $50 per month plus the phone cost. - $1,200 over two years.

With Virgin Mobile you would have to pay for the phone and get the monthly fee of $25 with no contract. - Two years cost with Virgin Mobile is $825.

We did exactly as above with Virgin Mobile

FYI, it was time to get new Verizon phones or go with something different. The new Verizon plans, on the website, did not offer unlimited texts which is what we currently had. They offer unlimited to other Verizon phones but the max was 1000 outside of that. I still could get the unlimited if I bought thru Costco, but not directly with Verizon.

I will pay less than half for unlimited data, texts, and all the minutes we need with Virgin vs. just minutes and texts with Verizon. That is a huge difference.
