I was just looking at verizons site and my current 1400 minute talk and text plan has gone up by 10 bucks. Off course we are grandfathered in but verizon just keeps going up.

So is everyone grandfathered in unless they change their plan?

We have the 1400 minute plan as well. We already pay almost $170 for two phones.

I'm sure its going up because they know they are going to get new customers because of the iphone.

Another reason to drop the overpriced Verizon. While others are trying to give more the big boys are raising prices. $20 for unlimited texting which costs them nothing to provide and $30 for a data plan.

We dropped Verizon last year and are now with Straightalk. At $30/month for 1000 minutes and texts and 30GB of data or $45 for unlimited everything, you can not beat their prices and without any contracts.

When you buy a new phone and get the 2-year contract price, I'm pretty sure they automatically update your plan and you pay the higher prices because you are getting a deal on the phone to sign a new 2-year contract. If you keep your same phone, then you keep your same monthly service fees. But eventually phones die or the technology gets old and you need a new one.

How do you find the coverage using ST? I know they use the Verizon network but am curious if you get the exact same coverage.
We can only use Verizon because its the only carrier that has coverage at our house, we do the pre-pay but its still more expensive than anyone else. I would love to switch to PagePlus or ST but can't risk losing my coverage at home.

ETA I just read yesterday that they are discontinuing their new every 2 deal. Its almost like they want to lose their customers.

I  my straight talk

I just read this on Yahoo :sad2: I have been with them forever! They are getting greedy now.

Verizon officials have confirmed what SmartMoney was told by Verizon sales reps at a number of stores around the country: The company is ending its popular "New Every Two" program, which offers Verizon subscribers a credit of $30 to $100 toward a new phone every two years. As of Jan. 16, the company will stop offering the credit to new customers and won't re-enroll current customers in the program after their next New Every Two upgrade. The cell carrier is also putting the brakes on its permissive early upgrade policy, store representatives confirmed

They want people to pay as much as possible for the iPhone.

They are changing it from every two years to every twenty months- not eliminating it. It will mean that people can buy a new phone sooner...if they want.

Definately, but it also includes any upgrade $$$ not just Iphone. I am not switching it, I am curious how much the data plan will be for the Iphone with Verizon, I am thinking of getting one but not until June when Apple upgrades the Iphone.

I would think it would still be $30 for the unlimited data plan. That's how much I think it is on AT&T.

DH and I just got new phones last April so we'd have to pay the early upgrade fee for the iPhones (which I'm sure we'll end up doing because DH doesn't want to wait until December!). Do you think there will be a new iPhone for Verizon that quickly (in June)? I know the Verizon iPhone is different than the AT&T one.

I was just in the store yesterday and talked to a sales rep about this and the new iphone plans. He said that he felt like Verizon was getting cocky about having all these new customers flock to them now that they are getting the iphone and he just doesn't think that will happen. I don't either, personally. I added a line and am now getting 200 fewer minutes for $10 more/month. I asked if the iphone would be included in the 'new every two' deal, and he said no, which I expected. Trying to decide now if I buy the iphone outright or upgrade my blackberry and buy the iphone later for my 2nd line.

They are getting rid of New every two and they are putting in a new program but NOT GIVING YOU A LOT OFF OF THE DEVICE.

With new every two I could get my smart phone pretty much for free. Now they will just let you have whatever promotion is going on.

So yes they are making sure you are paying as much as possible without you switching to another company. Personally Verizon gets better reception then AT&T so I never switched.

Verizon should have been smart and told Apple to screw themselves and just invested in the android because my droid x can do everything an iphone does! My sister has the Iphone and I compared them and my phone does eveything hers does. So there is no reason for Verizon to do this to their loyal customers.

This is also happening because with the smart phones they can not make up the money they used to by just having their customers sign a two year contract. That is because these phones cost around $500.

Not sure but this is what I read about a new Iphone this Summer.

But all of these moves are leading up to the iPhone 5 -- a completely redesigned handset -- which our sources say is on track for a summer launch. Right now, the device is being tested discreetly by senior staff at Apple (strictly on campus only). We don't have much info on the phone at this point, but our understanding is that the new device will be a total rethink from a design standpoint and will be running atop Apple's new A5 CPU (a Cortex A9-based, multi-core chip). This device, like the iPad 2, will feature a Qualcomm chipset that does triple duty as the CDMA / GSM / UMTS baseband processor -- from what we hear there's no LTE in the mix at this point

ST coverage has been great here - no issues - most everyone is on the verizon network but some areas are covered by at&t

Look at Virginmobileusa.com. Their month to month plan is $25 for 300 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited Internet. Android phone so apps available. It runs on the Sprint network. The same unlimited options a's above with more minutes is $40 a month. No contract.

i had a verizon rep pull a fast one on me when i re-newed and upgraded in dec. i got a droid and he said i would need to add the data plan to it. i did. i got my first bill and it seemed way high, well was not even a bill, i have automatic debit so i had been charged before i knew something was wrong. so i called and found out the data plan for dec was on my jan bill, for some reason it couldnt go on my dec bill, fine. but then she told me i had unlimited texting, i never had that! turns out he had upgraded my texting plan and never told me! since it was only 10 more a month it sure was a sneaky way to get extra money without people realizing it.

my mother had the opposite happen. she had unlimited calling and they downgraded her for some reason and she had to call to complain when her new bill was skyhigh. i am highly disappointed in them right now.

We switched from Alltel/AT&T to Verizon the day after Thanksgiving at Costco. They were offering great specials that weekend. We have a 4 member family plan. We all have free unlimited text, DH has a data plan, and we all got new phones. We pay $150.00/month and we are happy with the plan/phones/services we have. But, we live in a less populated area of the country and Verizon has the best coverage in our region. :confused3
