Youngest DS needs new shorts for our upcoming trip. Found a pair of wrangler shorts in his size (skinny butt) at our local walmart for $7.00 They only had 1 pair. So when I got home, I checked the walmart website and to buy them on line they needed to be sent to your home and the cost was 10.84 per pair plus the s&h. I tried calling all the other walmarts within 50 miles and only 1 other store had 1 pair in stock. So I "bit" the bullet and ordered 5 pairs on line. The shorts arrived yesterday and they all have tags on them that show $7.00

I emailed walmart.com requesting a price adjustment since the pants are clearly marked with a price of $7. This is the response I received.

Thank you for contacting Walmart.com regarding requesting for a price adjustment for the 5 pair of shorts as the tag shows a cost of $7 each.
We apologize for the confusion this may have caused. The price shown on the invoice / merchandise is for retail purposes only and does not apply to consumers.
The price quoted during order placement is agreed upon pricing.

I sent an email back asking then why is the tag on there and basically said that this puts walmart in the same category as all the people that were taking advantage of the zhu zhu pet situation at Xmas. DISGUSTING!!!!!

Thanks for letting me vent :)

That's frustrating - just like when something is on sale in one store but not in a different one. I wonder if you could return them to your local store with your invoice and the re-buy them at the $7 price? It might be a hassle and may not be worth the $15 or so dollars in the end, but it may be a way to get them for the sale price.

I'd also call the 1-800-Wal-mart number and complain - I don't know that you'd get satisfaction but it might help to voice your dissatisfaction.

annoying BUT the same thing happens in reverse all the time. Things are cheaper on Walmart.com or other stores on line site than they are in the store and when this happens do you offer to send them the difference?

When I have asked about why Walmarts 4 miles apart have different prices for the same thing I have been told each Walmart is a separate entity and is allowed to price things as they want, same as stocking different things so I would imagine it is the same for on line vs stores.

Annoying but you got the shorts you wanted and didn't have to drive all over the place picking them up with gas at the price it is.

I will NEVER buy from Walmart again for a similar reason.
My parents ordered DH fleece lined pants online, after visiting countless Walmarts to find they were not in stores. The pants did not fit. So we take them back to the store with the receipt. We got back the price they were on the receipt I think the 2 pairs were $30. We start walking around the store when we see that they now have them and they are $18 a pair. (Should have left the receipt at home!)
Anyway, we find his size and bring them to the customer service counter to the same woman who just helped us. I explain that all we wanted were the right size and ask if we can undo the return transaction and just make it an exchange. We could, but we would have to pay the difference!
I asked to speak with a manager. The pants were IDENTICAL, but if you exchange what you bought online and the store price is more, you have to pay the difference. I argued with them over the absurdity of it and got no where. I have since vowed never to buy from them online again.
Bottom line-if you buy online, it does not fit, you exchange for the right size in the store, you pay the difference.

Don't take it all out on Walmart!!! Every store that has on line shopping is the same way. Target, JC Penney's, Sears. They all tell you right up front that on line pricing is not always the same as in the store. As I said above if you found it cheaper on line would you offer to pay the store more?

I was looking for two movies, so I went to Walmart.com to see if they carry them. Only one is carried in the stores. I needed it right away, so I went to my local store that afternoon to get it.

Online it was priced around $9. Same movie in the store was $13.

Go figure.

What really baffles me, tho, is the difference in prices between the WalMart that's 8 miles south of here and the local store. There are huge price differences on small items...like 9 cents on a can of cat food. How does 8 miles justify that big of a difference on a small item?

If you want to get me mad, get me talking about how they target their demographics...so that stores less than 15 minutes from each other carry completely different quality of clothing, based on what WalMarts thinks of the community.

Just saying, I'm to the point where nothing WalMart does surprises me.

I'm not sure why you are upset. You agreed to a certain price. You must know that merchandise they sell in the store and what is sold on line is not always priced the same. So they sent you some pants that had a store price on it. You got the pants you wanted for the price you agreed to. Nothing to complain or get worked up about. Now if they had quoted your $7 and then overcharged you, you would have a legitimate complaint.

This has been going on for decades, you'll see it in supermarkets too, disgusting isn't it? The really sad thing is that the items with the lower cost are usually close to wealthy "froo-froo" neighborhoods and the higher items in lower income demographics...shame on them but....:confused3

I totally get the fact that the store price and on line price are/can be different, but to send the pants with a tag that says $7 and they charged $10.84, that is what my complaint it about.

If you were in a store, the display sign said $10.84, the tag on the pants says $7, and when you checked out you were charged $10.84 would you tell the cashier you wanted the $7 price. If the answer was yes, then basically didn't you agreed to the 10.84 price because that is what the display showed?

Has anyone else noticed how some of the Our Value items are more expensive than the name brand items?

They probably sent you them from either a supplier that normally sends the pants to the store. Would you rather they had told you none were available? You knew the pants were cheaper in the stores, but you agreed to the higher price on-line. You got the merchandise you wanted for a price you agreed to, and now you want to quibble? You already bought the merchandise, which is different from being in a store and noticing a mis-marked item.

All retailers who sell both on-line and in stores sometimes sell the merchandise for different prices, depending on where you get it from. Be happy you got what you needed for a price you were willing to pay. You can always send the pants back if you are that upset about it.

Most on-line stores with a brick & mortar counterpart don't have a warehouse that houses "on-line inventory". When you order something from on-line that is clearance, especially, it comes from a Walmart* store that has excess inventory of it. So, yeah that store that was selling them was selling them for $7.00 and had them tagged as such. However, that clearance sale hadn't hit on-line yet, so they were still $10.48.

Also, Walmarts*/Targets especially will price things lower if there is immediate competition in the area. If your walmart is the only grocery store/mass merchandiser in the area, chances are you will be paying a bit more for things than a store that has a Target 1/4 mile down the road.

That is why IF I shop at A WalMart I go to the worse part of the city--all things are less expensive--if I go to the fancy suburban one the prices are way higher. Just another reason I don't like WalMart and rarely, if ever shop there. But if I have to, I head to the seedy part of town!

I would send a complaint to your BBB and to your State Atty General. I know in NYS you can't charge higher than the price on the tag for something--though I don't know how internet shopping is treated. Still worth a letter and a definite answer.

What would happen if you returned them to your local store, got your money back, and then bought them again? Wouldn't they ring up at the price the store charges? Then you would only be out your s/h. ;)

Individual states do not have a whole lot of control over internet sales. State laws all differ, it would be a nightmare to try to regulate or even keep track of who charges what.

If the price is bothering the OP that much, they can always return the shorts to Walmart and get back what they paid for them. Or maybe hang onto them and keep checking store stock. But being mad about a price you agreed on is silly. Does anyone get upset when they get a good deal on-line that they can't take advantage of in stores? Internet sales is a whole different entity than the store sales, even if it is for the same company.

I would be peeved if I paid $10 for something that came with a $7 price tag when it arrived when the price was from the same store I bought it from.

Having different prices online than the store is one thing, but they shouldn't be sending merchandise that is actually marked as costing less than they paid is counterproductive. All is does is make the customer mad.

They probably pulled the shorts from another store, or stock meant to go to another store, in an attempt to get them to the OP as fast as possible. Trying to be speedy and make the customer happy. So would it have been better for them to say they didn't have the shorts, instead of pulling them from a stock supply meant for stores? Then the OP wouldnt' have had them at all. Then it boils down to if you are happy you got the shorts at all, even for a slightly higher price, or would have been happier without them.:confused3

I would be upset at the price difference on the pants. I would not care that I had to pay more for them since your store only had one pair if I really wanted them but I would not be happy about them coming with a lower price tag still attached. It's like the time my daughter bought a surprise bag at some store I forgot which, it cost $1 she opened it and there was a pencil and pack of gum with the price on the gum.

I would scan a copy of your payment at the local Walmart to show that is the charged price.
Also, I have used the ship to store option for free several times hassel free. then if there is a dispute you can deal with it there.

Can you just return to the local Walmart? I wonder if they just put them out on their sales for the $7?
