I've enjoyed some of the tributes to him, for example, the King of Pop one and the shows on VH1 but I'm really tired of which doctor prescribed what, which parent is coming out of the woodwork to claim the kids, etc, etc.

We never watch summer t.v. either, except maybe a bit of sports and pbs (Nature and Masterpiece theater). We've missed almost all of the Michael J news (thank heavens!).

The only reason MJ is getting so much coverage is becaues nothing of importance is happening in the world. I mean, if there were a coup in Central America, a revolution or a missile test in or by a nation hostile to the west, an energy bill going to the senate, or the possibility that a flu vaccination is going to be forced on the American people by the CDC that would surly be in the news.

Since none of those, or any other important thing is happening, we have to be subjected to the non stop coverage of a dead pop star that probably touched kids.

Ok, this post made me turn on the news. All I am getting is Palin.

I am a fan of MJ's and I also am tired of all the coverage. I watched the shows on Vh1 and other entertainment channels, but even those are getting run into the ground. But, as others have said its always this way when someone of this magnitude of fame dies. Back in the 70's when Elvis died it was the same way. I still have all the newspapers to prove it! Anna Nicole's death, Princess Di both the same.

Someone mentioned Jon and Kate. They may have been joking but actually that is a lot of what we were getting before MJ died.

I think it says a lot about all of us as a society. If people weren't interested in watching it, they wouldn't keep airing it.

WE don't idolize him. I'm not sure if you're including yourself in the "we", but MOST people don't idolize him, feel a special closeness to him, want to let their kids sleep with him or consider him an icon.

With the exception of a girl at work, I have yet to hear one person IRL say they even care. And she's a flake, so there is that.

I am pretty sick of all the MJ coverage. You can't turn on the TV or radio it seems without hearing the latest speculation on who will get the kids (and the associated money), who might have prescribed what drug for him, how much money the city of LA is paying for security at the memorial service (money they don't have I might add).
