Vent: I'm SICK of the Michael J. hype and coverage!!

Well then I suggest no one watch TV tomorrow. Pretty much all the channels will be carrying the coverage of the memorial service. Hang out on DIS or read a book!

The media drags out anything that has a scandal attached to it, regardless of how famous the person is. Anna Nicole Smith wasn't 1/10th as famous as MJ and the coverage of her death dragged on FOREVER. Entertainment Tonight is still dragging out the baby daddy and her baby on the anniversary of her death, her birthday, etc. She was famous for being a centerfold, a gold digger, and a junkie. What I think is sad is that "major" news networks have sunk to the level of gossip tabloid shows in their coverage of the news. But, I guess that's what gets ratings. People love scandals.

I think MJ was a very gifted and talented man, and I do feel bad for his children, but I have to admit the media coverage is a bit too much. They need to give it a rest, but as usual, I'm sure they won't.

The only reason MJ is getting so much coverage is becaues nothing of importance is happening in the world. I mean, if there were a coup in Central America, a revolution or a missile test in or by a nation hostile to the west, an energy bill going to the senate, or the possibility that a flu vaccination is going to be forced on the American people by the CDC that would surly be in the news.

Since none of those, or any other important thing is happening, we have to be subjected to the non stop coverage of a dead pop star that probably touched kids.

Your right, if anything like that or anything else of importance was going on we'd surely be seeing and hearing about it. Thanks goodness the world stood still so that the media would only have to cover MJ's death, after his death, his funeral and probably his afterlife

I've caught a few of the more informative shows - not the speculation over how he died; which doctor did what; who wants the kids; who wants the money; etc. - and I found them very interesting.. Learned some things I didn't know before (even though I have read numerous books about him) and really enjoyed the tour of Neverland with Matt Lauer and Germaine Jackson.. Other than that, enough is enough.. I see no need to televise his memorial service on every single channel tomorrow - and I'm still a little upset that once MJ's death was announced, Farrah Fawcett's death was pretty much swept under the rug.. Did she even get her "15 minutes"??

I am with you, but I gotta be honest, I'm surprised that any of you are actually surprised. Just consider the hype surrounding Anna-Nicole, then consider that there was probably a significant population of people who didn't even know who she was. Now, if HER untimely death, disputable estate, and offspring of debatable parentage caused non-stop media coverage for months, can you just imagine what we can expect from the media regarding a dead American icon with the same issues?

So give it up...we will just have to do deeper research on our own to get the real news for a few months (if not more).

I'm wondering when the rumors/speculation will start that MJ faked his death and is really still alive and hiding somewhere...you know, like Elvis did! :)popcorn::

Believe it or not, that was the very first thing I thought of when I heard the "news".. :rotfl: It would be soooooo like MJ to pull something like that off.. After seeing his family though - especially Germaine - I'm sure it's not a "stunt".. He was - and is - truly broken up..:(

I wish the media could find a balance. At least for the 24hr cable news, what's wrong with a 5 minute (or less) recap at the bottom and top of the hour? Anyone that obsessed will go online to read up-to-the-milisecond-updates, why bog down the airwaves?

Then change the channel. Unfortunately this is what you are all going to be watching and I feel that the news has been going down the tubes and there are no more REAL journalists out there, if I want to know what's going on in the Entertainment world I will watch Entertainment tonight, but if I want to know what is going on with my state or country I will watch CNN and/or my local news. It's been pretty pathetic.

I love MJ and he deserves all of the coverage, I think the news media has always been obessesed with him and today on The View, Whoopi said that he was a good person and she would let her children sleep in the same bed with him, she knew him as a person and she called him a friend.

His life was so out there and he tried to be private that is why the media is all over this because they want to know the facts and the truth.

FYI he is not or ever was a pedophile.

Maybe he was not a pedophile but he was freaky and you have to wonder about someone who would allow their child to sleep with him. Knocks Whoppi down a few pegs in my book.

And tried to be private? Ok, so cover your kids heads with a veil, take them out in public this way, hang your kid outside several stories above the ground and then tell me you want your privacy.

Wow, well if Whoopi would let her non existent kids sleep with MJ he must not be a sick twisted pedophile.
Her statement would really matter if she did have kids and she did in fact trust MJ enough to sleep in the same bed with her, but since she doesn't and it could never happen her statement means zilch ;)
Of course we are talking about Whoopi and the View does anyone really care what these ladies have to say about anything? :rotfl:

It will all die down soon. Anna Nicole Smith's stuff went on for a VERY long time.

However, if someone you were close to died, would you "get over it" after 10 days? Maybe and maybe not. Lots of people felt a very deep closeness to him and they deserve the right to grieve for as long as they need.

I didn't tell anyone to "get over it" There are channels and shows devoted to entertainment, PLENTY of them for anyone that wants to watch MJ 24/7. But the news channels should be reporting NEWS. When the autopsy results come in, that's news. Constant mindless speculating is not news

Get off your TV.

I was at a place with no TV for the holiday weekend and was happy to get back today and see the coverage.:thumbsup2

My OP wasn't about just watching TV. It was about wanting to see some real news

I've enjoyed some of the tributes to him, for example, the King of Pop one and the shows on VH1 but I'm really tired of which doctor prescribed what, which parent is coming out of the woodwork to claim the kids, etc, etc.

Exactly. This over the top speculating is too much

The only reason MJ is getting so much coverage is becaues nothing of importance is happening in the world. But there IS a coup in Central America! Honduras is at the brink of war, Chavez has threatened to invade, it's been going on for two weeks already, and it's getting worse, with people getting hurt and killed just yesterday. But just speculating about MJs debt, medical problems, etc takes precedence.

I'm not watching TV tommorrow. It's dissing or reading for me!
