Urgh! I have had 8 cars since I started driving in 1999. I know a lot...
My first car a subaru my mom bought me, I rear ended someone in because my brakes didn't work properly, got it to work until the oil pump blew a week later.
The second car an aries K my grandparents got me, was rear ended by a drunk teenager and totaled.
Third car a Ford Focus, I bought with the money from the accident was repo'd because Fiance' was laid off.
Fourth car an Izuzu truck died on us.
Fifth car another Izuzu truck timing chain went and ruined the engine.
Sixth car was a Buick my grandparents got me, was in an accident.
Seventh car was a Aerostar we bought and the engine went a week later.
Number eight, well I just got it this week, thought everything was good until I went to get a tire tonight and whap you need new this, that and the other... URGH!
Anyone else had such terrible luck? I don't know what to do. I'm starting to think I'm cursed. Even my brand new car I bought the Focus was a lemon and was in the shop every other week.

My only advice is this: whenever we buy a car, we test drive it and have a mechanic look it over. If the dealer rides with you, see if you can find a mechanic who would be willing to take a look at the car on the lot for a nominal fee. So far, we have had our cars for 6 and 5 years and never had a problem (other than the usual things every other year or so).

The horrible thing is I have had a mechanic look at them each time. The Aries and the Buick were cars with only 30-40k miles on them, pretty much brand new but were wrecked URGH! Because they were older cars the insurance company paid nothing (well as close to nothing as you can get...lol). Our van got a a+ cert and than went a week later... I think I'm cursed. I'm afraid to buy another one, even thought I need one because I feel I'm going to have the same luck. I thought I had just got a good deal, the car I just got was only $300.00 from my uncle, an old lady had it, one owner, etc... spotless, but found out the CV joints, Axle and Brakes are all gone... so $300 turns into over $1,000. Which I can't justify for a 1980's car. Infact, I went to test drive a car the other day, I drove it around it was a 2000 Kia, stopped to look in the trunk, etc before I signed the papers and it would not start again... OMG I thought, so I tried another, got about a mile down the block and smoking... I am just cursed... lol!

Actually we are driving a Toyota Camry 99 right now, my mom's we are using. Of course a week after we started using it it started having problems... and last week two of the new tires somehow went bald in under 10k miles and one even was splitting. I just have to laugh. And I baby the cars too, never speed, etc... whats wrong with me...lol!

I don't think you are cursed :scratchin

My brother has had awful luck with cars - I think he has been through 7 cars since he got his license. Most through accidents, but a couple of lemons. But, he is also a bad driver ::yes::

I so wish I could offer more advice, but if you are doing everything to try to avoid buying a lemon, maybe you need to try a different make of car.

Christine mentioned Toyota, though I haven't ever owned one. I have only owned Plymouth and Ford.

I am giving you some Pixie Dust :wizard: and hope you find a dependable car soon!!! :goodvibes

Man, what are you doing???? Taking those turns on two wheels?:)

We just bought a 1990 Volovo station wagon with over 200,000 miles on it. Its great! We bought it for 850.00 and so far so good! DH's mom had a volovo with over 400,000 miles on it so we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Good luck...cars can be soooooooo frustrating. Sometimes I wish we still drove horse and buggies....would make life easier I think....but knowing our luck we would end up with a lame horse that needed to be shot.
