Vent about clothes for 9 yr old DD

Why can't I find some regular everyday clothes for my DD? I refuse to buy what I call hoocie mamma clothes for a 9 yr old. I don't want her stomach showing, part of her rear showing or anyother skin that shouldn't see the light of day. I don't want to buy hip huggers, low riders, flare cut, boot cut or glitter jeans. I don't think what I call regular clothes exsist anymore. I just want my 9 yr old to be a 9 yr old just alittle longer.

Maybe its just me. sigh

Good luck, you are right those kind of clothes almost don't exist. I've had a lot of luck with Land's End and Arizona (slightly flared) jeans at JCPenney's. I agree its very hard to dress a girl that age, my DD is 10 and its not getting any easier.

DD is 4 1/2 and suddenly decided she wanted to wear skirts/dresses. HOLY MACKREL! I was shocked to see some of the "styles" for little, little girls! Thank heaven she can still wear Carters and Osh Kosh, I shudder to think what it is going to be like when she is in the 7-14 range.

A Belk's just opened not too far from my house so I am going to check them out this weekend. If no luck there, I will have to trek about 45 minutes to the mall for Sears and JCPenneys.

When I went through that with my older DD, now 12, I finally had to ask myself why I objected so strongly to flares (it was all I could find!). They came up high enough, no exposed skin that ought not to be.... I just don't like flares. But I bought them for her because she loved them. They weren't the low-riding hip-huggers. No glitter (though I now let my DDs get some that do have docorations on them... still don't like them). Basically, there was nothing I could morally object to. So they got there ugly jeans. :teeth:

What's really funny is they really do look nice on them.

Just go to the Lands End website and get a catalog sent to you. Thats what I did, they have a much better selection than they do at Sears. (and they are pretty true to size) DD loves the tights.

I don't care about the flare or the glitter. I just want it to cover her. I do pretty well so far.

Have you looked at Gymboree? They go up to a size 12 and have cute clothes without the skimpiness.

Nope, it's not just you. Trying to dress a little girl like a little girl is a real problem today.

My DD has had some success with Gap jeans. They have an adjustable waist and they aren't low cut, but they are flares.

Hey, I wore them and look how I turned out.

Thanks, I just sent for a Lands End catalog. We wear shorts 11 months out of the year so this is usually not an issue but its been chilly for us in the mornings while waiting at the bus stop. My daughter loves sweats and I just bought her a new pair. I have to buy boys sweats though because the girl ones don't have pockets or elastic around the ankles. Maybe I should just buy her some boys jeans!

When you are at Sears, have your DD try on some of the Lands End stuff in stock. That will give you an idea of how their sizes run on her, and then......you get to go to my FAVORITE bargain corner, www.landsend.com and go to the Overstocks pages. I have been dressing DS almost exclusively in lands end overstocks, buying at the end of the season, for the next year.

Good Luck!!!

My 10 year old DD takes a lot of stuff out of her brother's drawers. She wears their big baggy basketball shorts, in fact I just bought her 3 pairs on the clearance rack for 99 cents. I also buy her boy's basketball pants, the kind that snap up the side. I get a lot of her stuff at Kohl's, the pants are a challenge. The shirts, I just buy a size bigger. Right now she iswearing 14-16 in the t-shirt, knit top range. She also refuses to show her stomach. She is very much a tomboy though, she'll be the first one playing tackle with the boys. I just told her they had powder puff for girls in high school, it was like I gave her a gift.

Kallison, My DD is just like yours!! LOL

I do Land's End and LL Bean. Hunter will not wear her shorts short so even her blue jean shorts are from the boys section at Target. At school she has a relaxed dress code. Collared shirts, tucked in, belts, any kind of pants but no skin. She looks great every day. I hate the hoochie momma look and am fortunate at 10, she does too! The child would *die* if I brought anything pink, floral or glittery into this house.

What is 'hootchie' about flares and glitter? I don't see anyone over the age of 9 or 10 wearing glitter and I just don't see anything sleazy about flares. I see comments about girls' clothing on the boards over and over again, but I have no problem finding age appropriate clothing for my 6yo and 8yo dds. I do shop at lands end, but I also shop at Children's Place, Gap, Target, Kohl's and a few local places. I understand not wanting to buy revealing clothing for girls - I know I don't do it - but what is wrong with little girls wearing the clothes that are in style for them? Maybe it's so difficult to find clothing b/c you haven't accepted that even children have a 'style' and that's all you're going to find in the stores. I'm not talking about dressing little girls like teenagers. It sounds to me like some posters are trying to avoid dressing their little girls like the other little girls.

I don't have a problem with flares. I don't like glitter though. Personal choice there. DD doesn't want anything "girly", sparkly, lacy, fake fur, real fur, anything "princessy". It is her taste more than mine but we agree. Hoochie Momma is more revealing looking. Like you say -- teen styles cut down for little girls. But I will say I haven't been able to buy anything this season from Target. :( And church clothes gets even tougher.

Yet another reason why I thank the Goddess EVERY SINGLE DAY I have a boy and not a girl.

My DD only likes the Levi's and Lee jeans for girls, those are plain, yet always in fashion !!!

And the good news is, it's going to get worse before it gets better!

My DD9 loves glittery, girlie things, but definitely not the stuff from "Slutz R Us", which is good, because she's not getting it. I don't object to the glitter, though--don't see a problem with it, and she likes it, her friends have it, etc. Plus those fluffy sweaters and stuff--she feels in style, they're warm and cover everything they're supposed.

I tend to shop second hand, so you don't know what you're going to find, but stick with classic names as much as possible. I'm stunned at the stuff people let their kids wear.

P.S. Old Navy also has the adjustable waists, and tend to be inexpensive and well made. Perfect for kids with no rear end! Although her day will come, genetics dictate it...

Why do nice girls clothes end at 6x?

I wanted non hoochie mama clothes for my 8yo DD and had good luck at the gap and limited too. I also love gymboree but I don't remember getting anything there for this school year. Everything that I have gotten there is well made and doesn't look like a rag even after many, many wears and washes. You can look up the websites for most stores to see what they offer for styles.
Here are some good ones
