Venezuelan Navy Rams Cruise Ship in International Waters

I'm still in the Navy Reserve and am currently the SUBLANT Fleet Historian, supporting the Navy History & Heritage Command. I might have to do a little research to see when the last time a warship was sunk by a non-combatant. If nothing else it will make for an interesting project......

Didn't the Norwegian Navy lose a frigate to a tanker about 2 years ago?

The article I read said the cruise stayed to render support but that the Venezuelan ship ignored them. Then the Venezuelans proceeded to say it was all the cruise ship's fault and that the cruise ship refused to render aid.

Who knows?? It's like something out of the National Enquirer.

Yes, but I'm not sure if that should count. As I recall, the frigate grounded itself to avoid sinking, and then they had an accident when they tried to move it for repairs and it almost completely sunk.

I remember they grounded her,but I thought she slid off the rocks and rolled on her side before they could secure her better.

Have to double check at what point it foundered.
She foundered before securing. Had to salvage her. I was part of the JSM investigation and we used that situation as comparison. It wasn't relevant, but had to read the RNN investigation

Of note, the RCGS vessel stayed in the area, offering to render assistance - which was refused - by the VNZ PB. Crew was rescued by international rescue org. SMH
