There are 5 of us holidaying in Orlando for 3 weeks from 3 July. On our trip in October 03 we hired a 7 seater Dodge Caravan from Airline Network and were very pleased with their service

In July we wish to hire a Grand Caravan as FIL will be renting an ECV (scooter) for the first time. Airline Network quote £600 for the Caravan (larger vehicles, but not the Grand Caravan, are available but much more expensive).

Two quotes for the hire of a Grand Caravan stand out. Both are from Speciality Auto Rental and both include all taxes, insurance (nil excess) and an additional driver. They are;-

Skycars - Quote of £627

I've had past, pleasant, dealings with Skycars (had to cancel a rental and they dealt with it very well) so I'm inclined to go with them. Anyone had any dealings with Vehiclehiredirect.com?

At the same time, anyone had any dealings with Speciality Auto Rental (I know their depot is 10 minutes off airport (MCO))?

I used Speciality in 2000 without any problems at all,they only deal in 7 seaters and bigger.Just rang for their courtesy bus on arrival then a quick trip to their depot which if I remember is on McCoy Road,a very quick efficient service.

I recently reserved an 8 seater vehicle fromSunchase and it was a very reasonable £214 per week. This may be of use to you, if it is give them a call and ask for Peter or Jan. They will give you rates for Specialty (who have had positive feedback by the way)

No its not Alamo's old depot,speciality's depot is surprisingly small compared to other depots we've used.

Can you get an ECV in the back of a Grand Caravan? We had one of those once through Dollar, and I did not think you would get a scooter in the back, maybe the scooters are smaller than I thought. Also we had a Caravan and I thought they were pretty similar in size, then again I'm hopeless with cars
Try Florida Homes and Travel We use them for car hire and they are extremely helpful, they will also give discounts off the web site prices, a freind of ours got an extra discount last week for a 3 week stay

I have just spoken to a helpful gentleman from FHAT. He is sure that he can beat my best quote of £611 (also with Speciality) and will call me tomorrow with confirmed figures.

There is no hope of an ECV fitting into the luggage area of a Caravan but the Grand Caravan has a much larger luggage area. All ECV rental companies claim that the ECV can, when broken down, fit into the boot of a car - I am hopeful that the Grand Caravan will take the ECV (even better if there's no need to fully break it down)

Having been to Orlando 10 times now and being used to search out best car hire rates, I though I had researched virtualy all possible rental agencies. Yet in this thread alone are 2 sources I'd never come across. This just goes to show that, no matter how experienced in visiting Orlando you are, you can still learn much on this site....thanks again guys

Just an update;-

Sunchase have come back with a quote of £619 (Dollar)....includes Fully Inclusive (not platinum) insurance but includes 1 extra driver free.

FHAT - I spoke to the chap last night and accepted his quote of £600 (Specialty) for similar cover to above (no insurance excesses).

Guess what?....Today I received an e-mail from Vehiclehire direct reducing the price to £586. Oh well, c'est la vie

I was really impressed with the demeanour and personal attention of FHAT. Repeat business for next years trip could well be on the cards
