Hello,

We are planning our very first trip in March, and I am wondering if there are very many vegetarian meal or snack options in Disneyland?

Thanks for any info!! :)

There is about one option on every menu. Not a lot of options, but in some places very good ones.

I'm veggie and always find plenty to eat. It is a little surprising that Disney doesn't have more vegetarian options, as even meaties don't usually like to eat just meat. But, that's not so different than most places.

My favorite dish so far has been the vegetarian chili in a bread bowl in front of Haunted Mansion (I forget what the place is caled, it's right there on the water). Even my meat-eating hubby thought it was delish.

Have a great time! Don't eat too much. ;)

Check out the menus at allears.net .

A few key things that I enjoy are:
Vegetarian Chili at Pacific Wharf Cafe (DCA) and Harbour Galley (DL)
Boardwalk Field Greens at Board Pizza & Pasta (DCA)
Penne Pasta at Plaza Inn (DL)
Vegetarian Taco Salad at Rancho Del Zacolo (DL)

As long as you are Lacto-Ovo you should be fine find a large variety of foods. If you are vegan & eat no animal products at all you will have more trouble finding food.

Oh, the vegetarian chili is SO good! I order it in a cup, with the bread in a bag, so I can eat the bread as I wish to eat it, not just because it's soggy.

I tried the tofu skewers at the new place in DCA...Paradise Grill? (something like that) The tofu chunks are huge, but I cut them into quarters and they were quite good. The rice side was really good, too.

I once chatted with Chef Chris about the food there. I might be putting words into his mouth, but the impression I got was that their philosophy was that they wanted their food to make as many people happy as possible. So their rice dishes and their refried beans are NOT made with meat products (unless it says so); so the beans at Zocalo and Cucamonga are fine for a vegetarian to eat, as was the pilaf I had. It's nice to have that knowledge. Also goes with the oil they use to cook fries, etc

However, somewhere I read that the sauce on the fried green tomato sandwich at Hungry Bear is NOT actually vegetarian (I vaguely remember thinking or reading that it has anchovies or something? but that's hardly something that makes everyone happy, LOL)...I do NOT know if that's accurate, but maybe someone here knows.

Elsewhere someone was concerned about anchovies in the sauce in that sandwich. My best guess is that there may be Worcestershire sauce in the sauce...at any rate, the anchovies would make it not vegetarian. Though if you're vegetarian solely for health reasons, I don't think the tiny amount of fish in that sandwich would be a huge problem.

Of course, if you're vegetarian for health reasons, I'm also not sure why you'd be ordering a sandwich with "fried" in the name. :flower3:

Ah, W sauce makes sense. Almost no one thinks of the ingredients in it. :)

I go back and forth on anchovy (I do love my caesar salads), but I know that if DS wants a taste I'll have to order the sauce on the side. He's been veggie since birth, and does not want anything at all in his food that's non-veggie. Recently found out that the salad dressing at a local restaurant has anchovy, had to tell him, and he was so sad that he'd been accidentally eating it.

Of course, the likelihood of him wanting a taste of it is fairly low. He's somewhat adventurous, but I don't think he'll understand that a green tomato is something that's OK to eat. (we obviously do not have a garden, nor do we live in the South) :3dglasses

Another veggie here. I eat well when I am in the park. I love eating at BTRBBQ. The veggie option is tofu and veggies on a skewer with the BBQ sauce on it. Very good, but it does take a long time to get to the table. But it worth it. :)

The option at Blue Bayou is okay, it was better with the garlic potatoes than the couscous.

There is also a veggie gumbo at Royal Veranda that is tasty. :)

Breakfast is a little more difficult if you want more than a muffin or fruit.

I am an inconsistent vegetarian :rotfl: but these are things I have found in the parks that are veggie and that I enjoy:

The cheese and pesto ravioli at Boardwalk Pasta in DCA
The vegetable ragout at Cafe Orleans in DL
The veggie skewer and Tiger tail at Bengal BBQ in DL
The veggie chili at Harbour Galley in DL or Pacific Wharf in DCA
The bruschetta and caprese salad at the Alfresco Lounge in DCA
The fried green tomato sandwich at Hungry Bear in DL (I was told it was worcestershire sauce as well which doesn't bother me)

Napa Rose makes amazing veggie dishes and have no problem whipping them up when you request. I had an amazing beet salad and mushroom dish here.

ETA: there are lots of great snacks as well, including popcorn, jalapeno cheese stuffed pretzels, ice cream, etc. that are veggie!
