We are off to WDW on the 3rd August - We cant wait! My wife is vegetarian though. No meat, poultry or fish. When visiting Paris it can be a trial to get food for her- they just dont get the idea of vegetarian over there! I'm assuming USA will be easier, but if anyone has recommendations for good veggie options restaurants then please let me know. Both fast food and table service options are fine. Anything really. We are staying at Pop Century and will be at WDW for most of the vacation barring a couple of days off the resort at Universal.

Thanks for your help:thumbsup2

Welcome to the dis boards. Here is a link that will get you to the menus: http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm#epc

I am a Lacto-ovo like your wife, I really enjoyed the lighthouse sandwich at Columbia harbor house in the MK (its a counter service) I havent been able to go yet but I have been reading that Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge is wonderful. My best meal was at Coral Reef, it was heavenly! I also enjoy Tusker House at Animal Kingdom for a counter service. In MGM there are several counter services that offer a Boca type veggie burger.

Reading the menus is really helpful.

I had a couple of great dinners at Boma, so I highly recommend the place. It's great for omnivores (my husband eats meat) as well as vegetarians. Buffets are easy, breakfast is easy. The vast majority of sit-down restaurants have a vegetarian dish or could whip one up if one's not on the menu or the one on the menu is not to your wife's liking.

For CS, it's not too hard to find good stuff. My favorites are Columbia Harbour House and Tangierine Cafe, but just about everywhere there's something to eat--the Main Street Bakery surprised me with a very tasty mozzarella, tomato and pesto sandwich. Some places have limited selections, like Flame Tree BBQ, Casey's Hotdogs, and the Flatbread place at MGM come to mind. Animal Kingdom is probably the worst park for vegetarians, but we can have pizza at Pizzafari and a veggie burger at Restaurantosaurus. And if worse comes to worst, a mac and cheese kid's meal can be a decent light lunch.

If you haven't already, try to get a few reservations before you head down at the places you think you'll really like (cough Boma cough). It can be hard to just walk up to a restaurant and get a table if it's not fast food you're looking for.

I'm also a vegetarian and I 2nd the previous posters recommendations (especially Boma and Columbia Harbor House).

Sunshine seasons is also a pretty good CS with a few salads, a vegetarian sandwich, and some Chinese options I assume are vegetarian (not sure about chicken or beef broth being in them though). And they have very yummy desserts there.

We really like California Grill. California Grill has numerous vegetarian appetizers and at least one entree which changes seasonally. (Most restaurants also have some vegetarian option--or one that can be made vegetarian by leaving the chicken or shrimp off--on the menu, but for some restaurants these options don't appear to change very often.) They will also make vegetarian sushi at California Grill for you if you ask. Also I've heard a rumor on the DIS that you can request a "vegetarian unplugged" plate which has a little bit of every vegetarian thing on the menu on it. (I have not been able to confirm this rumor in person--yet :) )

Ohanas is a family style meal with the main attraction being meat on skewers. It has a bunch of sides that are pretty good--wontons and sauces (peanut sauce, mmm ), grilled veggies, salad, and scalloped potatoes. And upon request they will make you a special veggie entree--it was an udon noodle dish with veggies last time I was there.

You also might want to check out the menus for Chefs de France and maybe Spoodles (though I don't think they have great options for entrees lately)--at least, they are places I like.

I'll add my vote for the Lighthouse Sandwich at Columbia Harbour House (MK). It's a hummus and broccoli slaw sandwich and it's delicious! Their vegetarian chili is also good.

Several places offer veggie burgers. I've tried them at Beaches and Cream (near the pool at the BC) and Cosmic Rays (MK) and both were good. Cosmic Rays has a "fixins bar" with lettuce, tomato, sauteed mushrooms, onions, pickles, etc. that you can add to your burger. We especially enjoy listening to "Sonny Eclipse" in the lounge there while we eat our meal. I hear they make an excellent veggie burger at the Grand Floridian Cafe but I haven't tried it yet.

Boma (a buffet) and Jiko at AKL are good choices for vegetarians. We enjoyed the vegetarian dish at 50's Prime Time (MGM) (I think it was a stuffed pepper). San Angel Inn (Epcot) has two vegetarian items but they are not on the regular menu. You have to ask your server for the vegetarian menu. We always get the vegetarian combo meal (black bean burrito and a cheese enchilada). It's tasty and very filling. Chefs de France (Epcot) has a delicious vegetable lasagna available for lunch or dinner.

I've read that you can get a tofu dish at 'Ohana (Poly) if you tell them you are a vegetarian. We haven't tried it yet.

The Rainforest Cafe (one at AK, one in DTD) have a good veggie burger and something called the "Plant Sandwich" (portobello mushroom sandwich). Both are very good.

I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian and my husband eats meat. Virtually every table service and full counter service restaurant has at least one vegetarian entree. You will see a lot of veggie burgers at counter service places (bland Boca burgers) that can be dressed up a bit with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, etc.

My absolute favorite vegetarian meal right now is the root vegetable pot pie at the Rose and Crown (UK pavillion in Epcot). It's absolutely delicious. Their coiunter service fish-and-chips has vegetarian french fries that are fried in a separate fryer from the fish. I rarely eat french fries out in the rest of the world because they're usually fried in the same fryer with chicken, fish, etc., so this is a big treat!

The veggie burger at the Rainforest Cafe in the Animal Kingdom is homemade (not a Boca burger!) and excellent.

The vegetarian combo at the Mexico pavillion table service restaurant is very good if it is served hot (and so-so if not hot). You didn't ask about the atmosphere :goodvibes , but the Mexico table service restaurant has the most romantic atmosphere of anyplace I've ever eaten and I highly recommend the experience!

I also like the mac-and-cheese at Chefs de France in Epcot and the mozzarella etc. sandwich at the Main Street Bakery in the Magic Kingdom.

I've heard that the resort restaurants have better food than the park restaurants, but DH and I can't tear ourselves away from the parks long enogh to find out if this is true. :hippie: We've stayed at Pop many times and we always eat breakfast there. Your wife will be able to get a vegetarian omelet, oatmeal, fresh fruit, pastries, etc. The breakfast potatoes look good but don't taste particularly good.

Have a wonderful time!

Check out the link in my sig.

Thanks for the link! :thumbsup2

I am also a vegetarian and a picky one at that :upsidedow :rolleyes1
This was one of my concerns for our upcoming trip, especially with being pregnant.
They did tell me on my inquiry that even of there is not a vegetarian listing on the menu, you can let them know that you are a vegetarian upon checking in at the podium and they can make an alternative. I hope this stands to be true, especially for places like LTT when meat is the main thing on the menu.

My dh and all of the children are not vegetarians.

You might want to call and have it noted on your LLT ressie that you are vegetarian. I know some have gotten the Amber Waves of Grain at night and said it was tasty. The only place I had a problem with eating vegetarian was Le Cellier (had the tomatoe stack and a ceasar salad) because I cannot do mushrooms, every where else was very helpful and delicious when they knew it ahead of time.

Glad you like the link. I plan on expanding it heavily during my next several trips. It didn't occur to me until my last trip to even begin putting something like that page together.

So far we've had some really excellent meals in WDW. I was most worried about Ohana last August because it is so meat-centered but the dish they have for vegetarians is TO DIE FOR! I loved it and was pleasantly surprised. By far, though, Jiko, Boma, San Angel Inn, Wolfgang Puck's and Yacht Club Galley are our favorite TS eateries.

My family and I are vegetarians. We dined at Disney World for 18 nights 08/2006. There were a lot of great restaurants. I found the California Grill to be my personal favorate. The view and the food were excellent. Boma buffet at Animal Kingdom Lodge also had excellent vegetarian options the two nights we dined there. We attended several character breakfast buffets and there were always veggie options. Coral Seas at Epcot was very good...a lot of options. 50's Prime Time at MGM had veggie options that were good...and it was fun! The best breakfast I had was at the Ohana Character breakfast (Polynesian Resort). Chef prepared our table meal(family style) with special veggie options and even came to the table to make sure everything was good. I could go on forever. Only problem we had with veggie sit down dining at Disney World was with the children's menus(my daughter ate a lot of pasta/pizza). You will find a lot of options. Check out the online menus. California Grill is a great/romantic choice if you can get in. Try to get a reservation later in the evening during the fireworks show(if you don't mind eating late). Great view/outdoor platform to stand on.

Where is San Angel Inn?
In Epcot's World Showcase, inside the main building in Mexico. The restaurant is indoors, but is decorated to look like you are dining on an outdoor patio in the evening. Great atmosphere!

Hi
I had a really good veggie sandwich at Backlot Express in MGM. I love O'hana and I don't eat meat. I'll eat the shrimp and all the other food (except wings) and it's really plenty. I never asked for the veggie dish there. Maybe I'll try it this August. :thumbsup2

My sister is a vegan and eats very well in DW. She looks over the menus at allearsnet before she visits so she knows which CS places have the best options for her. She calls all the TS restaurants a week before she leaves and speaks to a chef at each restaurant. The chef prepares a meal for her and she is always extremely happy.

Although most of the TS restaurants now have vegetarian options, vegan options are much more limited so I'm not sure if that is why they are willing to prepare a special meal for her. Even at the buffets they prepare a dish for her.

The chefs are great!
