HELP!!!! I am the planner for our Thanksgiving trip. As is always the case, my brother and sister in law waited WAY too long to finally decide this was going to happen. I have ADRs for all 8 of us. Then...it dawned on me that my SIL's mom is a vegetarian. The only "meat" she eats is "some" fish, whatever that means. I've looked at menus and know that most, if not all, provide vegetarian options. However, I'd like to hear from those of you that really know where the best places for vegetarians are. I was concerned about the CS options at AK. I can't find anything that I think would work. So, if you know anything about that particular park, I'd love to know. Thanks!!

you can go to different websites and read menu info for almost anything disney. i am in the same boat trying to plan for a party with 3 vegetarians! good luck. also, i think there have been some other posts about vegetarian/vegan restrictions. good luck!!

Thanks...anyone else? I would love to hear from the vegetarians on this subject.

Vegetarian options at CS in AK are pretty meager (which strikes me as illogical, but whatever). There's Pizzafari (cheese pizza), Restaurantarsausus (veggie burger), and a fruit plate at flame tree. The only place I've eaten in Pizzafari, and I don't recommend it.

Agree with the above poster, AK vegetarian CS options are the most lacking of all the parks. My DH is vegetarian and we've had the pizza at Pizzafari and the veggie burger at Restaurantsaurus. Both were edible but certainly nothing particularly special

To be honest though the standard vegetarian cs option is either pizza or a veggie burger. Does she not eat either of those?

I have no idea if she will like the veggie burger or pizza. I'm just trying to get some ideas so I can show her the menus. We like Pizzafari a lot. I'm hoping she can go with the cheese pizza there. I thought about the chicken ceasar salad if it is something she could ask to have the chicken left off or pick it out.

To those of you who have tried the veggie burger...is it a soy burger, or one of those kind with mushrooms, etc. in them?

I am facing the same problem when I go in December! Hey, at least I can have all the sugar I want!;)

Every WDW restaurant I've had a veggie burger in, it was a Boca burger (I dk about RFC-in MA their veggie burger is a mushroom/grain thing).

So the Boca burger was a soy one? I know they make both. Same with Morningstar Farms. I can do soy, but I can't do assorted veggies in a burger shape. Haha!:rotfl:

It's the soy fake Boca one. :)

IF she absolutely cannot eat the vegetarian option at the table service she can talk to the chef.

I am allergic to mushrooms, ALOT of vegetarian options are mushroom. I had no issue noting it on our reservation, talking to the chef at the time and having a great meal!

The only place I have run into any issue was Le Cellier, all I was offered was a ceasar salad. That was one expensive salad!

For counter service AK is horrid and so is HS. I am stuck usually with cheese pizza at both. My favorite is tangerine cafe in the world showcase. I could eat that everyday! The burgers are Boca style meat replacers unless you go to the rainforest cafe, those were veggie made burgers.

Awesome!:thumbsup2 I'm like you...I hate mushrooms, and they are in too many things these days!

I read your vegetarian dining review thread, and it gave me some good ideas.:)

Glad I could help!

My sister is vegetarian and has had little trouble finding food at WDW. Once in a while she has to opt for salad as a fall back, but mostly she finds lots of options.

One place we've liked is Flying Fish. Another is Boma.

Last fall she actually chose to dine at 'Ohana - the meat lovers paradise - and was able to get plenty of food. I didn't ask her what they did...They might have brought over something from Kona Cafe.

Most places are very helpful. If you see a dish that maybe could be made without meat - like Kona Cafe had a Chicken/veggie stir fry - they will usually make it if you ask nicely.

You can also call ahead and talk to WDW dining. They will help you out. Your vegetarian dining will be noted on your ADR. They may even go so far as to mkae an extra veggie special that night if they get enough requests.

At buffets a chef will walk you through the line and let you know what's veggie and what is not. Sometimes they will even be able to modify a dish there slightly too. Like my FIL eats low-fat - and they were able to give him some salmon without the high-calorie sauce upon his request.

One dish to avoid - I understand the vegetarian stuffed peppers at the PTC in HS is nasty.

Sushi places are a good choice. Therea re lots of great vegetarian dishes there. Another good choice is the QS in Morocco. I thinkals the TS ther has some good options.

Youcan also let you vegtarian froend review the menus...I think they are here on the DIS, but they are also on Allearsnet.com

Tusker House at AK is great for vegetarians so maybe try TS at that park. I hate the veggie burgers at the CS places-rubber tasting. Columbia Harbor House at MK has the Lighthouse Sandwich and veggie chili (very good.) Boma is great. Jiko-very good. Tangerine Cafe CS at Epcot has a veggie platter but they have cut down on the scoops of humus, olives, coscus, etc. big time. Tiny, tiny portions now:( They do have veggie falafel.

I am a pretty strict vegetarian. I eat nothing with eyeballs(fish, poultry, pork, beef). I will eat eggs if it is an ingredient in something(like a cake) but not omlettes, quiches, frittatas, etc. Same with milk but I will eat cheese.
I found the vegetarian options at WDW to not be that great unless it is at a buffet. I got the worst veggie burger ever at MK. They literally took a premade patty from the freezer and popped it in the microwave. At least they could have put it on the grill for some flavor and some browning.
I like pasta and pizza but I get pretty sick of eating just those things for a week. Of all the food offerings at MK, I enjoy Boma the most.

Thanks so much for your ideas. I'll give her all this information. I never thought about noting the vegetarian on our ADRs. I'll make sure to do that. I had thought about speaking with the chefs if there is a problem or question she had.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure at MK if we dine QS, she often gets a salad, and maybe some fries.

Over at El Pirata Y el Perico, I THINK she was able to get a taco salad hold the meat - or something like that. Again, it's kind of funny since all they serve is beef tacos, more or less. They do have a 'toppings bar' with lettuce, salsa, tomato, cheese, and onion. (I think)

Last fall she ate at the Plaza at MK. It's a TS, but inexpensive and has sandwiches. I don't know what she had...

There used to be veggie options at the Tomorrowland Noodle Terrace, but it isn't always open.

Another place to try is the Mains ST Bakery. They have a few sandwiches....maybe pbj (Uncrustables), maybe egg salad..Allearsnet.com lists a tomato/basil/fresh mozzarella sandwich. Mmmm!

I know a few other places have pbj's. I just can't think where else I saw them...(they are on the kids' menu)

One trip a few years back...I was on a diet, and we ate at a lot of QS....about halfway through the trip we both were like, "Enough with the Salads (and for her, french fries)!" Since then the menu choices have improved, as have our dining selections..

I am the same kind of vegetarian, I eat fish sometimes as well, and so does my mom. We have no trouble getting vegetarian meals! We went to Boma at AKL and I just asked the chef if a dish was vegetarian...I got a whole tour of the line, plus everything that was in the food...even if it was vegan or not. If you call ahead, they are great at accommodating or just ask. She should be fine and don't panic...everything will be great! That is one thing you don't need to worry about it...I never think about it when I go to Disney!

Also, I'm on Weight Watchers and ate good, healthy food when I was there last year with the family. Again, don't worry!

Some other CS veggie options:
Epcot Pizzafari -- ceasar salad
Boardwalk Bakery - grilled veggie panini
Epcot Electric Umbrella -- veggie wrap (pretty good)
MK Cosmic Ray's -- veggie wrap (not as good as above)
Epcot American Adventre -- veggie wrap (I haven't tried this one)
MK Pinnochio's -- pizza and salad
Epcot Sunshine Season -- sooo mmmaannny choices -- veggie lo mein, stir fried veggies, veggie fried rice, cuban veggie sandwich, numerous salads, fruits, and usually one soup with a pure vegetarian base (no meat stock)
DHS Pizza Planet -- pizza and ceasar salad
DHS Backlot Express -- grilled veggie sandwich

We've had great veggie meals at these TS:
Tusker House
Spoodles
Cape May
Crystal Palace
Chefs de France
San Angel Inn
California Grill
Rose and Crown
Mama melrose
Brown Derby
50s prime time

In some cases we chose the vegetarian option on the menu, in others we spoke to the chef and they made something with ingredients we liked.
