Vegetarian at Coral Reef

Hi all-- my family will be eating at Coral Reef in December, and I have a question concerning vegetarian options. I see on their updated menu there's a mushroom dish, which sounds really good to me, but not so good to my daughter, who doesn't like mushrooms. The only other vegetarian option I see is the beet salad... but she doesn't like beets, either. It figures... two of the only vegetables she won't eat! Anyway, when we ate at Le Cellier last month, she was allowed to get a plate of sides-- will Coral Reef allow something like this? Or is there a "secret" vegetarian menu I should know about? ;) Thanks!

There are no secret vegetarian menus that I am aware of anywhere in WDW, but there are some very accomodating chefs. If you make a note on the reservation beforehand, they can be very creative in working with you to accomodate dietary needs. We traveled with my two adult vegan cousins a few years ago, and they were served some very creative and interesting things in various restaurants. A couple of the chefs mentioned that they enjoyed the challenge/variety in working on such things as a change of pace from turning out the regular menu day after day.

As a default, if your daughter is happy with things offered as sides on the regular menu (potatoes, or rice, or things like that) then they will usually serve you some of those upon request in lieu of a 'regular' (meat/fish) entree.

Have it noted on your ADR that there is a vegetarian - no mushrooms. They have whipped me up some awesome stuff and I loved each time we eat there. At the very worst you are stuck with a bunch of sides but usually they are much more accommodating than Le Cellier in my past experience.

When we went in May, my sister mentioned to the waiter she was a vegetarian and really didn't want any pasta. She felt like everywhere she went that was her only option.. The chef came out and spoke with her and ended up making an amazing dish of veggies and goodies. We were all jealous. I can't remember exactly what it was, but I know it was delicious!

My DD is a vegetarian and doesn't like mushrooms. Our waiter asked the chef to stop by our table and he came up with something that she ate. It was based on a side dish or two from the other meat entrees. IIRC it was some kind of smashed potatoes with veggies.

Thank you all for the great ideas-- I'll be calling to put a note on our reservation!

robinb-- For a moment I thought you had posted a picture of my daughter! Did your daughter get her t-shirt at the Dinosaur gift shop at AK, too? Mine would wear hers constantly if I'd let her!
