Since I can´t stop thinking about Vegas these days (planning a 3 night stay at the end of our DL trip) I thought it could be great to hear some Vegas stories, from those who have been there.

Did you gamble? Did you win / loose? Any other funny stories to share?

ummmm we brought home a souvenier

There is a reason our kids are 11 months apart.

Just remember what happens in Vegas does not always stay in Vegas

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: binny!!

The one time I went to Vegas with DW (been two other times with the guys), she was already a couple months pregnant, so we didn't have to risk that one. :teeth:

We got hooked on craps that trip -- DW and I took a lesson at NY/NY on a whim and spent most of that day (and partway into the night) playing at the same table. :thumbsup2 We should have left the table when we were like $100 up, but kept on playing and cashed out pretty much even.

All the trips I've taken, I've always been pretty close to breaking even. :thumbsup2

LOLOL Binny.. that happened to my best friend in Atlantic City.. She went with us and I booked her a comp room I had. I told her that was the last time I did that :rotfl2:

Freyja,

Have a great time in Vegas. I went in 2001 and than drove to Disneyland. My son and I went and he was 8 at the time so I could not gamble much. But the sites were exciting.

My father was in Vegas for business. He is not a big gambler so he thought he would just hang out with 2 or 3 of his co-workers. They decided to go into a casino to see what type of buffet they had. Well, my dad got bored and he went and got $10 in $1 coins. He dropped $1 into the slot machine and pulled the handle just as someone called his name. He started to walk away, but the person next to him grabbed his arm. He had hit the jackpot for $2,000!

This happened the first time that DW went to Vegas with me. I decided to shoot some dice, and convinced DW to play along (she'd never been on a dice table before). Eventually the dice came to her, and she went on a major roll.

Unfortunately, we were standing at the side of the table and she either had to throw the dice back handed, or left handed. Plus, we had been just a little over-served, if you know what I mean. So about half of her tosses went off the table. A couple even hit the stick man in the face, and boy was he mad! He started yelling at her, and so did the pit boss. But because she was on such a hot roll, the rest of the table started defending her, and it was quite a scene.

The funniest part was DW's reaction. She just had a goofy smile on her face and was pretty much oblivious to what was going on.

Love those stories. Keep'em coming....

Only been to Vegas twice but love it there.

Last trip in August, we spent 4 nites at Excalibur. I played blackjack each nite for under an hour each time. My winnings were a couple of dollars short of covering the whole hotel bill for the stay so I thought that was pretty good.

DD also had a great time. It was her first time there and she was just asking the other day if we could go back. In fact, DW even mentioned the other nite when we were watching CSI that she'd like to go back - I was ready to whack her with my pillow because she knows I'd go in a heartbeat.

Did you like the Excalibur? Is it good for kids. We´re taking 4 kids with us (1,4,9 and 11), so something kid friendly would be nice for them, although I´d also love a bit of luxioury for us.

DH and I were married in Vegas (planned, not a Ross/Rachel drunken thing).

Let me tell you, if you want atention, walk alone thru a casino in a wedding dress. Mine was even very simple, a long slip type dress with a short lace overlay over the top. Can't imagine if I'd had a more elaborate dress.

I had sent DH out of the room so I could get dressed since DH hadn't seen it yet. So, I was walking from the room, thru the casino to the chapel. There were so many smiles and pointing, and the ones I remember the most were these foreign men saying in their accents,"Oh, you getting married, so bootiful (beautiful)." Makes you feel like a princess. princess:

So, DH had been kicked out of the room so I could get dressed. He had too long to wait to just go to the chapel, so he found a chair that must have been close to the walkway that goes between the Luxor and the Excalibur. He's sitting there in his tux when three older couples came across and asked him how to get somewhere.

The got into a conversation about him getting married, and sweet guy that my husband is, invited them. He goes to the chapel a few minutes later and the husbands of the couples are sitting on a bench while I guess the ladies are telling someone that they'd been invited, but weren't let in (we had not planned on any guests). So, DH talkes to whomever and they are let in.

I show up and am hidden away. The minister comes to talk to me before the ceremony. I gave him my room key and asked that he give it to DH since that's all I brought with me. (What are you supposed to do with these things when you're alone??) He then tells me that DH has invited some guests and he hopes that's OK with me. It's fine, but all I can think is maybe his sister and BIL had come to surprise us.

So we get married and I vaguely remembe seeing these people, and that it's not SIL & BIL. But am too into the wedding to think anything else. After the wedding, DH introduces me to our guests and one of the ladies puts her hands on either side of DH's face and says "I just have to kiss the groom" and kisses his cheeks.

Every year on our anniversary I think of those couples and how they may be sitting at home saying "Honey, do you remember the time we saw those kids get married in Vegas?" Well, I can keep doing it for a few more years anyway.

We thought Excalibur was very kid-friendly. They have a huge arcade on the lower level with video games as well as carnival-type games to win prizes or earn points to redeem. They have motion simulator theaters. Upstairs they have a small theater that has free shows all day long with jugglers, magicians, etc. The buffet was nice, reasonably priced and had a good selection. The pool isn't anything fancy but is huge. Ice cream parlor was good.

Overall, we thought it was just fine.

Love this thread and LOVE Vegas!!!

We used to go all the time when we lived in CA.
We've stayed at Tropicana, Excalibur, Luxor, Circus Circus, Terribles, and the Venetian. Several of those we have stayed at numerous times. Oh, and we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas Resort, Spa and Casino. Very nice place. :thumbsup2

We've seen Carrot Top, Bottoms Up, Mac King Comedy and Magic show, Ronn Lucas, American Superstars, Skintight, Showgirls, Jubilee, X, Splash, Danny Gans and Siegfried and Roy.

We've shopped till we dropped. Eaten at all the more popular buffets. Paris has a really good breakfast one. And done all the typical tourist things like the gondolas in the Venetian, the Eiffel tower, the roller coasters, etc.

I have quite a few ahem...interesting stories that I could share with you but they are definately NOT DIS friendly and there might be a 10 yr old reading this. So they will have to stay in Vegas for now.... ;)

Have fun on your trip!!!! :teeth:

DW had watched a behind the scenes show about Skintight. I think it was on A&E or Bravo. The last time we went she wanted to see it, so we did. And she got pulled onstage! She sat in a chair while the lead male performer danced "on" her. She was a good sport about it, and it was a big highlight.

Very cool. :thumbsup2

Love Vegas! We go at least 4 times a year since it's a 6 hr drive for us. I have a ton of stories but one of the best was when me and dh were walking up the strip from the Bellagio to Monte Carlo. There was this guy who was dressed up like Jesus. He had the robe, the thorn crown....you name it. He was walking up the street behind us and he kept saying to all the women he passed "where were you ladies when I was here the last time."Then he'd break out into scripture reciting and every man he'd pass he would bless with a sign of the cross. :rotfl2: There are some very interesting people there that's for sure!

One thing I would pass on to you and your family is the "porn slappers" who stand on the sidewalks all the way up and down the strip slapping these cards and handing them to anyone who would take them. We were there in Sept with our kids on the way home from Disneyland and we were walking to the Bellagio fountain with them and they actually handed my dd *12* porn fliers. Dh and I went ballistic on them for handing out inappropriate material to underage kids. We actually kept the flier and tried to call someone from the company but we never did get anything accomplished.

For stuff to do with the kids.....in Mandalay Bay they have a great aquarium. It does cost though. The Flamingo Hilton has a great wildlife habitat you can see for free. Mgm has the lion exhibit you can look at them through glass for free or you can pay to go in to the exhibit and get your picture taken with a lion. NYNY Has a wicked rollercoaster but it does jerk you around a lot!~ The Bellagio fountain is cool and our kids thought it was the best. The Mirage has the Volcano show that's neat. We've stayed at just about every single hotel down there. Circus Circus is a dump to stay at *in my opinion* but they do have the free circus show upstairs. Caesars Palace has a free animatronic show, the Luxor has an Imax and motion rides, the Mirage also has the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat for a fee. Our kids LOVED LOVED LOVED the M&M store on the strip.
Bellagio has a policy for kids under the age of 18. You must be 18 years of age or a registered hotel guest to enter Bellagio. You cannot use a stroller in there unless you are a registered guest of the Bellagio. The only way children under 18 can go into the Bellagio is if you have a reservation at a restaurant, attending a performance of O, or going to the gallery of fine art. Children of hotel guests and non-hotel guests are allowed if accompanied by an adult. Non-hotel guests with children must have their tickets in hand prior to arriving to Bellagio.

If you want to go up and down the strip...from Mandalay Bay you can take the tram to Excalibur. From there you go across the street to MGM and they have a monorail that will take you down the strip without having to do a ton of walking. It is a little ways to get to the monorail as it's in the back of the casinos but it is way better than fighting your way down the strip.

And remember whatever happens in Vegas didn't really happen. ;)

Wow, I really love my own thread. Can´t wait to read more. Let alone go to Vegas...

My first dice story reminded me of another one. I was attending a conference at the Las Vegas Hilton. I got back to the Hilton after a night on the town, and decided to shoot some dice before turning in.

It was crowded, but I was able to find a spot at one of the tables. The far end of the table was empty, though, and I think it had a reserved sign on it. After a few minutes, a little guy that spoke Italian took the reserved spot. He signed a couple of markers, was given $200,000 in chips, and started playing. He was doing OK, as I recall.

Then I got the dice. I held them for a really, really long time. I shot a lot of numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10). The Italian guy had put a ton of money on those numbers, and was getting paid off on every roll. He also had plenty of money on the hard ways, and I hit a bunch of them too. He had piles of orange chips ($5,000) and they eventually brought out the brown chips ($25,000).

When I finally busted out, I'd made a tidy sum for myself. I'd guess I was up nearly $1,000. But the Italian had well over $1,000,000 at that point. And he showed no emotion at all.

Here's my story of losing $300 in Vegas. Not on a bet, but just "losing" it.

I was playing roulette and doing pretty well. I'm not a big gambler, so for me, doing well is having about $300 worth of chips in front of me whe I started with about $50. Well, ex-boyfriend and I had more than our share of free drinks and I needed to go to the bathroom before I was ready to quit playing so I tell XBF to sit in my seat and just bet a little at a time while I go, and I'll be right back.

So I come back, XBF is off talking with his friends, far from the table. The table has a new dealer (is he still called a dealer when there are no cards involved? :confused3 ) who has no idea who I am or where my chips might be. The chips are no where to be found. XBF has no recollection of being asked to sit at the table, and I don't think he just bet it all and lost it -- he's the type that would have admitted it after he sobered up.

And that's how I lost my $300 in Vegas.

We took the kids to Vegas 5 years ago. They were 7 and 5 at the time. We stayed at Excalibur which I thought was very kid friendly. They enjoyed the pool with the slide, the arcade downstairs, and we did the Tournament of Kings dinner one night which they really loved. McDonald's and Krispy Kreme were in the hotel too. We left for a few days to go to the Grand Canyon then returned to Vegas and stayed at Circus Circus. CC was very kid friendly but I would agree that the rooms were not the nicest plus it is far away from all the other hotels on the Strip. The loved it though and still talk about the arcade there (we had to have an extra suitcase to pack all the stuffed animals and hoopla they won) and the indoor amusement park. The buffet at CC was awful. :scared:

No wild stories since we had the kids with us, but it was funny how you totally lose track of time and distance there. The night we arrived it was about 10pm Vegas time when we checked in at Excalibur. So that was 1:00am our time but we weren't tired at all. We immediately started walking around MGM, NY NY, and Excalibur and just standing out on the bridge looking at all the lights. We ate Krispy Kremes and did not keep up with the time. When I finally tried to get the kids to bed, it was 2:00am (5:00amour time) and we had been up for almost 24 hours at this point! The kids were crying "why do we have to go to bed?" DH went back down to the casino so they were screaming "we want to go with daddy!" Everybody needs to go to Vegas at least once and fly in at night. That was cool. The kids still talk about wanting to go back.
