We are going on a 2 week vacation in June which includes Las Vegas. I bought an Entertainment book and have found a great deal at the Stratosphere but have no idea if its somewhere we would want to stay.

The last time we were in Vegas I was 18 years old and we stayed at Circus Circus which was nice at the time.....now 10+ years later I've heard CC is pretty nasty.

So I'm wondering if anyone here has stayed at the Stratosphere. They have the roller coaster on the roof which my two KIDS would love.

Any opinions?? I know there are deals out there but I am clueless as to where to look and terrified of Priceline.

Its at the opposite end of all the new resorts... meaning, you can't walk to it... We never made it down to that end beacuse we were too cheap to spend the cab fare. We walked as far as the Circus Circus and came back home (to the Paris, btw). It was still QUITE a walk from Circus Circus, we could see it in the distance.

I have talked to people that love both ends of Vegas, but usually do one or the other. Stay in the older end and enjoy all that it offers, or stay in the newer end.

Dh wanted to do the rollercoaster as well, but we never made it down there. =)

NO, I would not recommend the Stratosphere, it is in a very seedy part of town and WAY on the end of the Strip...it barely qualifies as being on the Strip.

Just pick a hotel based on what you would normally pick a hotel for; all the "kid friendly" places are within a drive or cab ride. Don't worry about staying where you want to do kid stuff.

You really should check out some of the Las Vegas sites...off the top of my head two I know are:

www.vegas.com

www.a2zlasvegas.com

Good luck. :)

I hope I do not offend anyone when I say this, but Stratosphers is a mecca for "trailer trash." I enjoy the shopping area and the tower rides, but I would never stay there. It definitely is the seedier part of the strip. If you look, you can get some great deals at the better resorts like Luxor, NYNY, Paris, MGM, etc. More than you mighy pay for Stratosphere, but way worth it!

Flame away (for those wha might be insulted! :duck:

I've stayed there a couple of times when it's the cheapest place available on race weekends. The rooms are clean and comfortable - much better than you might expect. The hallways can be a bit noisy, but it's never been a problem for me. The casino area is clean, too. It's not the fanciest place, nor is it in the best location, but it's a decent place to stay. You could do far worse. But yes... definitely stay away from Circus Circus - ick!

Oh, and the rides on top of the tower are really something! The new XScream is VERY scary! Just wait til you see the new ride they'll be building... even worse!

No flaming here....thats what I needed to hear. I don't need to jump into anything before I get some opinions!! If its crap and trashy I need to know!

I am going to visit those sights now! Thanks!

The next time we go to Vegas I will look into staying at the Orleans. It is right behind the strip....about 5 min by car. We ate there several times and I have read that the rooms are nice and very affordable.....
I have read that some people have gotten awesome deals using Priceline.....by bidding only on 4 and 5 star hotels.....on the strip....I think Priceline even has the different parts of the strip listed for bidding.

Sorry, cant really help you out but I wanted to say.....I wanna go too!!!!

I have never stayed at the stratosphere, but we were told to be careful cause it is not that safe since it is at the end of the strip, and when we went there late at night till the early morning, I didn't feel as safe when we walked back to the car.

Hey sis just take the first 2 weeks in June off and COME ON!! We will sneak you in the hotel rooms (now you'll have to pay for your Disneyland Passes!)

Which reminds you I have a nephew story for you, I'll email it to you!

Oh and I guess it could be 3 kids (do they sell Fruitcakes in Vegas?)

I highly recommend the Orleans! I've stayed there two or three times now and plan to return. Terrific rates and a great room - large and clean. I especially love the little window that opens in the shower!! If you stay there, ask for a room with a view of the Strip - should you happen to see it at sunrise or sunset, it's beautiful.

Well, when I went to Vegas we walked from the Flamingo to the Stratosphere in 106 degree heat.

We didn't feel like gettting a cab, so we pointed ouselves to the tower and walked.. and walked, and walked and walked.

We kept on thinging High Roller, Big Shot, High Roller, Big Shot...

The high roller was the most interesting coaster I have ever been on. It was worth doing.

I wouldn't recommend the Stratosphere at all. We went down there to use some free gaming coupons and just check out the place. It was filthy and the carpet in the casino was held together with duct tape in several places. It's really far from any of the newer, nicer hotels/casinos. I would stick with the south end of the strip. Go to the hotel websites like New York New York or Paris and sign up for their email specials. We have found the best rates by just calling their 800 numbers and asking for their best rate.

We were at the Strat. this past Oct. We went down (up?) to see the show "American Superstars." The show was wonderful. I would probaly go there to see it again. We did the tower rides, Big Shot and the rollercoaster. The Big Shot was really fun but a long, long wait to ride it at night. The roller coaster was LAME. Very slow and tipped so much that you really couldn't see much of the strip. I guess the "thrill" of it is that you are up so high!! The "newer" ride was still under construction. SHUCKS!!

I am not sure I would choose the Strat. as the place to stay. To visit yes, but to stay NO!! It was a little "seedier" than the more southern resorts, but anywhere in Vegas can be seedy in the wee hours. You have to be smart. Don't go anywhere alone!! There are more cops and security people per square foot in Vegas as in any other place we have ever visited. Choose a hotel room where you will feel comfortable. The rooms can be found very resonable at the nicer resorts.
