I have ressies for $129 at Monte Carlo for 6 nights in June but for only $59 a night we (DH and 2 DSs) could stay at the Tropicana. What a price difference that is!!! What can we expect at the Trop??:smooth:

I have stayed at New York New York (would return) and Excalibur(not going back) and walked to the Tropicana both times. It has a good location for easy walking to try other places.

I liked the feel of the Tropicana and had a very good lunch there.

I did not see a room, but the grounds were beautiful. I remember commenting to DH that for being one of the oldest hotels you wouldn't know it because it was so beautiful.

Kitty we are staying at the Monte Carlo for the first time in a month or so. I have been in the Tropicana, its one of the older and smaller hotels/ casinos, not that that is a bad thing. Monte Carlo is closer to center of stip, Tropicana is across the street from the MGM heading towards the airport.

Kitty although dh and I have never stayed at the (Trop matter of fact I never been in there come to think of it) 59.00 sounds nice. We had a petite suite reserved at TI for our March trip for 120.00 a night. I cancelled when a very nice casino host at the Aladdin comped 4 out of 7 days. We use to get Rio's room comps all the time, but since Harrahs took over that went to pot.
From a Vegas board I see Rio's is getting rid of their waitresses and hiring bevertainers(dancing waitresses  ) this is so lame.

We've stayed at the Trop a couple of times; however, its probably been 5 or so years now.

The pool is great and usually opens up on April 1.

The rooms:

Older garden level -- okay, nothing to write home about
Towers -- Nice

Normally you don't spend much time in your room so I would say "go for it." The Trop is in just about the best location you could hope for in that you have several major hotels (Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excaliber, NY NY, Monte Carlo and MGM) all within an easy walk/tram ... Monte Carlo has a tram to the Belagio and I believe the MGM has one to Bally's. This is actually the section of the Strip that we hang out the most in.

The Trop has the best and least expensive comedy club too ... well worth the money!!!

p.s. We've spent quite a bit of time in LV because my sister and her family live there ... we were just there over the holidays so if you have any other questions, just ask!

My in-laws stayed there last year and liked it. It's a pretty good location, too. I'd stay there and blow your money on a great dinner at Emerils over at MGM Grand. It was worth every penny!

I've never stayed there but I visited a friend who had the penthouse suite at the Tropicana & I thought it was dumpy looking (although the view was fabulous!) It's been several years though & hopefully they have re-furbished some since all the other new hotels are attracting the crowds. I also visited a friend at Ceasars in a penthouse suite & that also needed to be updated.

We stayed at Treasure Island & although the room wasn't as big as the rooms at Bally's (where we normally stayed), it was very nice & decorated beautifully. We had our son with us & we got a room which overlooked the "bay" so each night we had the best seats for the Pirate Ship show! The pools there were very nice too.

I'm sure you'll have a good time no matter where you stay though!

The MGM to Bally's tram is a pair of old Mark IV WDW monorails. :) I kept waiting to hear, "Please stand clear of the doors," but they recorded their own speil. :( I stayed at Harrah's last July ($35/night) and rode it a couple times. The only bad part about most every tram is they're at the very back of the hotel/casino. They want to make sure you have every opportunity to enjoy their casino and retail shopping. Have a great trip!! :)

It depends....if you will be spending days at the pool, the Tropicana is supposed to have a great one. If you will be out walking, it's the last hotel on the strip (that side of the strip). We have stayed at Treasure Island and the Flamingo. I would stick with more center strip (the Flamigo area), since we walk to everything. The Monte Carlo is more centrally located than the Tropicana and also has a nice pool area (and it's newer). Not much help, huh? :D Have a great time wherever you decide to stay!:D www.cheapovegas.com has hotel reviews

Kitty I am hoping to do a "report live" from vegas with pics and such on my laptop, its a big get together of her family so I should have a little time on my hands:rolleyes:

I had seen while surfing and shopping that the MGM-Ballys monorail will be closed indefininatly, it came up while asking for qoutes on rates. It may be due to the fact that construction on a new monorail is on going, I am not sure. :)

Patrick, I will be looking forward to your "live" report!! I think I'll hang on to my ressies at MC......just in case!!;)

I did hear that, also about the monorail being closed. I also heard that the monorail or whatever it is that connects MC to Bellagio closes in March for good.:(

here is the monorail info
MGM Grand to Sahara Monorail Opens in 2004
The MGM Grand to Bally's monorail has been temporarily closed as an extension is completed. The new monorail -- set to open in January 2004 -- will run from the MGM Grand to the Sahara hotel. The new route will include stops at: MGM Grand, Bally's, Flamingo, Harrah's / Imperial Palace, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas Hilton and the Sahara. There is also a proposed spur being discussed that would connect the monorail to the Riviera and Stardust.

Wow, some neat info on the monorail, Patrick. Thanks! That certainly will help in getting around the Strip next year! Too bad it wasn't this year......I have a feeling I will be doing a LOT of walking or taking a cab or the bus and in 120 degree heat no less!!!:p
