Vegas on a budget?

We have riden the bus (Duece) several times and find that the 24 hour pass is a great tool. It costs $7 and can be bought on the bus upon entering. You just tell the driver that you want a 24 hour pass, you put in your $, and out spits a pass for you to use. We like to get one during an afternoon and still use it the next morning to go somewhere. HTH!

thanks for the info. We are driving to vegas on March 22 I think its a 5 hour drive. dd is excited to go on a trip.

Have a great time!! I just heard from my photographer who lives there and she says it's about 75 degrees. Sounds fabulous to me!!!!

Have a good time, but I would really plan out what exactly you are going to be walking too.

With a 10 year old, the south end of the strip is not horrible. You have

Luxor(tut exhibit, plus Chris Angel, and 3d films)
MGM(free lion habitat)
Tropicana(bodies exhibit)
Excalibur(midway and tournament of kings)
New York, New York(roller coaster)
Monte Carlo(lance Burton arguably the best magician in vegas)
also very close is a gameworks other shops in the area.

Again good luck but I would really plan out you desired destinations, you might find that center strip will equal more walking.
FYI - The Tut exhibit is no longer at Luxor; that exhibit was dismantled last year and the items donated to a local museum.

The Imax theater is also no longer at Luxor; but there are two that are not far; the Palms and the new Rave theater at the Town Center mall have Imax theaters for movies; just a short cab ride.

However, the Bodies exhibit and the Titanic exhibit are now both at Luxor.

There are midway games at NYNY as well as Excalibur; and if your 10 yr old is at all into video games, you must bring him to GameWorks.

Thanks for the info. We do plan on doing a buffet at the orleans hotel. I found out they also have a movie theather and bowling alley. I need to printout my list of stuff to do and map it out. We are leaving on Sunday morning and theres rain in the forecast. Hopefully we make it through the pass before it rains. We will go through victorville ca. I think theres rain in vegas too uugh. If it does then Sunday would be good to hang at the orleans eat, bowl and maybe a movie. Then Monday hit the strip
for late lunch/early dinner:
Ellis Island
orleans
7.77 special areon on the list

i'm going to pack some turkey grinders(sandwiches on hogie roll)chips and soda for the way up there I think its a 4-5 hr drive. Iwill also pack up some snacks

Is the area where Ellis island is, is it a bad area??? Some say yes others say no. If its not to bad i want to have breakfast and dinner. I also ready their ribs are good

Be careful driving in Vegas in the rain. No offense to any Las Vegans, but they are not used to driving in the rain there because it almost never rains (in a normal year) and the oil and crud tends to build up on the freeways and when that combines with the water...well you know what they say about oil and water don't mix.
Just in case you and your hubby decide to take in a little gaming, there are child care centers that have fun activities at Orleans and Palms where you can drop off your daughter for a couple of hours. (At least there used to be; not that I've ever used them. I heard they were good quality though and regulated by the state, etc.) You can't leave the casino if you do this though.
Also please note that kids under age 12 are not allowed to be left alone in a Vegas hotel room. One parent must always be with them.
:cheer2: Have fun!:yay: I wish I found your thread earlier so I could have contributed. :flower3:

We are worried about the weather, driving wise. There are lots of accidents anyways on the way there due to people speeding so imagine the rain. I just want to get through the cajon pass because the conditions can be bad depending on weather.

As far as the childcare we dont plan on using those since is a family vacation. Plus i'm an overprotective mom-lol!

hello, we're back. I'm soooooooooo sore from all the walking-lol!

We stayed at Bally's $59.00 per night for 2 adults( plus dd that dh didnt put in out ressie) He checked in and they gave us a room in the south tower. The only room they had was a room with a handicap bathroom(the's no tub , the entire bathroom floor is all open to the toliet and sink area but there was two drains. ) I wasnt happy about that plus what if a handicap person needed it. The rfoom was also behind the elevator so all night we heard the darn thing go up and down. Even though we booked online a week in advance the rooms are 1st come 1st serve, but they said for another $20 per night we could getr another room in the north tower, i thought trhat was a set up uugh! I stuck it out but the 1st night i woke up around 2:30-4am and the 2nd night 2=3am, dh woke up the 1st night too.
ith the
1st day we went to the Orleans. DD played at the arcade. Then we went to the movies there. With the movie stub you get a free game of bowling(need to be with someone over 21)
first night we walked the strip and dh realized he forgot ther camera uugh. so we just walked . We kept missing the volcano twice the first night(show every hour). Sirens at TI was canceled due to winds.

2nd day we had breakfast at Ellis Island. I had dh go in 1st to make sure dd could go in there. As we sat in the car there were some interesting people walking by(scarey). It was also funny to see some people that didnt look like they belonged (upper middle class older people).Dont get me wrong i grew up in a ghetto area but with dd i'm more cautious.
The place is older and it smelled weir at the front of the casino. Once we went to the eating area it no longer smelled. At first i fault weird because there were no other kids. After an hour another kid 13 came in and there was a baby somewhere.
I got 2 eggs, toast, potatos and 4 slices of bacon. ice tea
dh got 2 pancakes, 2 eggs and 2 bacon ice tea
dd got the french toast sm orange juice
total was 22.00

after breakfast we went to circus circus and let dd play some games and we watched one circus act. Then headed to Orleans hotel were dd and dh played 5-7 games of bowling. Then drove over to checkout the cola and M&M, Then had dinner at outback. Next we head back to our room and relaxed. Finally we made it to the strip around 7:30pm. Leaving the venitian the darn camera battery went low, so dh had us wait for him while he went back to the room(ballys) to get the other battery uugh! DD and i walked to ti but sirens was empty and it was windier than the night before, so called dh to tell him to meet us at the mirage. We got there at the end of the volcano show. Dh finally caught up and it was getting late so we didnt wait an hour for the nextshow. We moved on to ceasars looked around, took pics and gbought a slice of snickers cheesecake for later back at the room. Then we walked over the the belligo and we did see the water show which was neat. We head back to the room and we were pooped lol! Having dd(10) with us hard staying on budget. I wanted to try the ellis island stead but not a place to tsake dd in the evening.

we also bought snacks here and there. Budget not so much but still did ok.My left leg and foot is glad its over. I have a nerve or tight muscle from my butt to my foot thats been acting up. Advil was helping

I enjoy walking and have walked the strip many times from one end to the other. For a rough estimate, each hotel is about 1/2 mile from the next one to give you an idea. Keep in mind that if you are walking, there will be guys on the sidewalks handing out cards for strip shows with pictures on them of scantily clad women and it's almost impossible to avoid them. Also, in the evenings, there will be some heavily intoxicated people out walking on the strip too. My last trip a few months ago I got to enjoy the men from of a wedding party puking all over their tuxedos as they walked from Caesars back to NY NY. The sidewalks are narrow, lots of construction in spots, and it's hard to walk abreast.

Also, I'd much rather stay at TI over Excalibur. Not necessarily for the location, but the hotel is nicer (although there is a lot more for children to do at Excalibur).

how would the sidewalks be for a wheelchair, thanks
