Vegas Hotels = Few In-Room Safes?!?

So strange, i've been looking @ tons of hotels on the strip & found few that offer in-room safes . Can't recall any hotel, even the economical chain ones that don't offer them back east.

Some of the properties had them in the newer/deluxe rooms only; seemed as though the majority of the older ones don't offer them (other than a hotel safe, which i'm not going to traipse down to when i need something).

I finally got tired of checking/calling & booked the Excalibur - of which only their new wide screen tv rooms are so equipped.

Q for the Vegas vets - can you think of any "moderate-priced" strip hotels that do offer safes?

Every hotel I've stayed in on the strip has had one, Did you check- Harrah's, Caesars, or Paris?

i did, for end of June:

* paris' standard rooms are nearly double the best @ Excalibur

* harrahs/bally's standards are easily the least expensive i've priced out ($60-80 range); they cannot guarantee the room will have a safe ; evidently, some do & don't

* caesars is way outta my budget, someday

even called orbitz; rooms must be prepaid in full-with many having a no-cancellation policy & they still don't guarantee a safe

honestly would think it would be on customer's high list of priorities as to gambling $s

OT- If you are "Gambling $$" why are you paying for your room? Do you have a players card somewhere?
- Have you tried The Flamingo, I would normally not tell you to stay there, but I hear they did a beautiful renovation of the rooms and they are good location, center strip, Excilaber is kind of out of the way (far end).

it's our 1st time out to vegas (3 day stopover before DL), nobody has our gambling business-yet

we'll have soon to be 15 year old DS with us, excalibur is right where the things are we want to see (especially like the walkways to NY NY/MGM/Luxor tram to Mandalay Bay) and gets thumbs up for being fairly family friendly.

he'll be old enough to hang @ arcade or chill in room/pool for a few hours whilst we have grown up fun.

friend of mine said she was comp'd a room for 2 nights mid week (@ one of harrahs properties cannot remember which one) last year. Evidently, didn't gamble enough - got a phone call and had to do some fast talking.

we've only had dinners, matching play from local gaming places, no strings attached.

Got ya. You didn't mention having a teen w/you, Excaliber is better located for the Rollercoaster at NYNY, and your right about that section a little more family friendly, just be careful not to let him walk the strip alone, 15 is old enough to be approached by the people handing out porn all over the strip (you will see them in your travels) and it's not really a great idea to let him wander alone. Excaliber also has "Medival Times" dinner (hope you like eating w/ your hands) which might be kind of fun for him. Also if you have time, go down to Strat. at other end of strip they have some awesome rollercoasters on top of the building, but def. don't let him go down to that end of strip alone (really seedy end) they also have circus circus, which might be amusing for about an hour (seedy,seedy, don't plan on staying long). Have a GREAT time, Vegas is a blast.

Getting back to original topic, I have seriously never seen a hotel room w/out a safe, I'm sure once you get there, you will 99.9% find one in your room, if not call the front desk and see if they have another room w/one available- you might luck out and get an upgrade..

thanks for the hints, i wasn't going to let him cruise the strip although he'd probably luv the idea Figure end of June it'll be hot & we'll not be spending tons of time outside anyway, especially after spending a day @ Hoover Dam.

we went ahead & sprung for the guaranteed safe (Wide Screen tv View room); less than $100 night w/AAA...except for Friday night when it goes up 50% - another thing i've learned as a newbie

A day at Hoover Dam???????????? Try no more than 2 hours if it is your first time. If you have a car, go take a drive, hike at Red Rock canyon (20 min. drive). Or rent a boat on Lake Mead for 4 hours. What a blast. Or Jet Sky !!!! Feed the fish at Lake Mead. Drive to Valley of Fire (1 hour North).

Didn't realize 2 hours would cover the dam we did want to do the extra tour (if still offered due to security issues). TA told me we must be there very early in the am or the lines get very long waiting to tour depending on how many bus tours beat us there.

we had originally planned to drive thru the Valley of Fire afterwards since we do have a rental car (and it'll be too hot for me to think about hiking anywhere lol)...was told it was too ambitious for 1 day

perhaps we will give it a try afterall the pics i've seen of Valley of Fire are incredible

We are going in June and I just assumed there would be a safe in the room.

Thats strange! Now I have to rethink this too!

They told me you can keep things in the cage for free as long as you dont lose your key, then its 100.00!

Im worried about items that may not even fit into a small safe box. Like my camera and laptop.

might want to give them a call, they insisted only the wide screen rooms have them.

rep i spoke to told me it's rather well hidden in the room; evidently the reservationists all took a tour and it became a bit of a contest to find where it was located

haven't heard of "the cage"? not sure what it is

since the resort is one of the largest in vegas, let alone the country; no way am i going to hoof it to the front desk everytime i want something.

Every casino has a cage, where all the money is kept. Its where people cash in and check in valuables.
