Going to Vegas over a weekend in December. What hotel would you recommend?

Want to stay on strip, but want a good deal. And a nice room. Doesn't have to be fancy, but nice and clean.

We'll be there over a Sat and Sun nite. I know the rates drop off on Sunday.

Wondering if any have free airport shuttle?

There's a few websites that I checked when we went to Vegas this past September.

smartervegas.com
vegaspromoguide.com
tripadvisor.com (forum for Vegas is great where people share codes)

You can also sign up on the hotel websites for offers.

We stayed at Encore and loved it! We found a great deal though. It was $129 per night, buy 2 nights, get 1 free and a $50 credit. It ended up being less $ than other hotels which were not nearly as nice.

I do not think any of the hotels have a free shuttle. However, a cab from the airport to the strip hotels should only be around $20.

Have fun! I love Vegas!

ETA: Book directly with the hotel, not a 3rd party website. If you find a better rate, you can cancel & rebook for no charge. I changed hotels 2-3 times before we found the Encore deal. No penalty for cancelling.

We stayed at the Mirage and loved it. The lobby was awesome.

Check to see who has deals going. We've stayed at the Flamingo, the Mirage and the Paris and all were great. We got a deal on the Paris for January, so we're going to be staying there again. Shop around and you'll find a deal. Have a great time!

Thanks all.

How did you like Paris? I've heard mixed reviews.

Was also considering Flamingo due to location and pool. But have heard mixed reviews too.

We looooooooooved The Paris. Really hated Mandalay Bay - way too far away! Paris was at a great location and a beautiful hotel.

Paris--Love it
Mirage--love it
Treasure Island- also fun
Flamingo--can't beat the pool
Anywhere mid strip is our favorite. Stayed at Imperial Palace(next to Flamingo a few years ago. Super Super cheap, and clean. Not a great pool, but mid dec, the pool time will be iffy anyway.

treasure island has the comfiest beds in the world! The hotel is beautiful and I def recomment the bannanas foster waffles in the lobby resteraunt. :)

I booked Flamingo for now. Knowing I can cancel. $201.60. Went for their Go Deluxe room which appears to be more updated and larger.

I'm waffling btn Paris and Flamingo.

Everyone says the Flamingo hotel pool is awesome. I'm hoping it will be warm enough to swim in mid-December

Thanks all.

You are going in December and the pool will likely be closed. Plus it's cold in the desert in the Winter. You'd be sitting by the pool in a track suit. I've seen it - hotel guests so desperate to sit at the pool that they wear sweats while they read their paperback books . . . at the pool in December, in 40 degree weather. But if it's warmer than where you came from, then, whatever floats your boat!!

From the list you have narrowed it down to I would choose the Paris. The hotel is really nice and the location us great. When we go to Vegas we love to stay in the Bellagio because I love the dancing founains (see my tag!!) and the Paris gives you a great view of the fountains too.

As another poster has said, I'm pretty sure the pool at the Flamingo will be closed in December. The location of the Flamingo is perfect, so it's still a good choice for that reason. However, since the pool is not really a factor in your decision, Paris, Bellagio, Mirage and Treasure Island are all very, very nice. I would love to stay at the Wynn and they are offering some great deals right now. Venetian is also beautiful. So many good choices right now in Las Vegas. Make sure you register on the individual hotel websites. There are deals to be had!

And another thing about Las Vegas pools for people who are used to Disney World's pools -- they close the pools at night! I was shocked at this as we went in the summer and the Mirage pool (which I liked the best out of the Mirage, Paris and Flamingo) closed at night. My DH pointed out, "They don't want drunks drowning in the pools. They want people in the casino gambling." I always enjoyed swimming at Disney's pools at night after coming back from the parks, so anyone used to that, just be aware that this is not the case in Las Vegas. Most pools are open only during the day.

I have stayed at every hotel on the strip except for the Wynn, Ballys, Flamingo and Imperial Palace. (I go often for business and for fun).

My favorite by a long shot is Venetian. I was just there last week with a room I only paid $139/night. I am signed up for internet offers for many of the Las Vegas hotels and I pay attention when I receive the emails and book when I get good rates.

I'm one of those who do not care for Paris. Perhaps I hit it on an off time but for me, the walls seemed paper thin. I could hear the people in the next room. And they have the worst pool on the strip (not that it's probably going to matter for you).

I enjoyed our stays at Mirage and Treasure Island more than our Paris stay and they are probably in the same price range. Out of all of the moderately priced hotels, I probably like MGM the best. Caesars and Bellagio are a step up in room quality but I don't feel they are near as nice as Venetian/Palazzo.

We have stayed at many of the hotels on the strip. A lot of people like to stay mid-strip. We like to stay at the Mandalay Bay end most of the time. Gambling on table games seems to be more reasonable down there at Monte Carlo, Excalibur, NYNY, and Luxor. The mid-strip hotels and the Treasure Island end, for the most part, are more expensive at table games. But, the bus goes up and down the strip so you can just hop on and go wherever you want. Very convenient.
I agree with the others who have said definitely shop around. My husband always does and we always get awesome deals. While you are there, sign up for all of the slot clubs. Signing up at the websites can help you get a good deal this time but the deals you get for being signed up for the slot clubs are much better!! We are going for 8 nights at the end of December and were able to get ALL eight for free and the last free night is New Year's Eve. We have to stay at three different places--The Hotel at Mandalay Bay for 3 nights, Treasure Island for 2 nights, and NYNY for 3 nights--- but it is worth it. And, we are NOT high rollers. Far from it. We also stayed 6 nights free this past summer--Luxor for three nights, and NYNY for three nights. Las Vegas is struggling right now so good deals are out there.
Good luck and have a great time!!

Oh-- and if the choice cam down to either Flamingo or Paris, I would definitely say Paris. We have stayed at Paris and it is pretty nice. We haven't stayed at the Flamingo. Just hasn't ever appealed to us.

There are lots of deals in Vegas right now. Of course the weekend rates (Saturday) tend to be there highest. You said that you wanted nice but didn't want to pay alot. I say determine the star rating you would like (1-5) and go from there. My absolute favorites are always the five star and include the Bellagio, the Wynn and the Venetian. I've also enjoyed the following four stars: Mandalay Bay, Paris and the Mirage. And remeber, just because a hotel has a higher star rating doesn't mean it has a sky high room rate. I've often stayed at a five star because it was cheaper than a four. Also its easier to stay closer to the attractions you want to visit. So don't stay on the south part of the strip if you want to mainly visit places at the north end. And if you are a walker and think you can just hike it, remember all objects are further than they appear.

Unfortunately I wouldn't reccommend the Tropicana. It has been about 8 years since I stayed there and even then it wasn't a very good experience. By Vegas standards the Tropicana is considered an old and outdated property. Depending on where your room is located, it can feel like it takes forever to reach it (thanks to ill planned add-ons). The room decor is old and tired. The casino is at best okay. You can definitely tell the difference between the ambiance of a property like this and say one of its closest neighbor, the Luxor or MGM. If you like that general area, the Luxor and Excalibur are usally very affordable, and a step and half above the Tropicana. I know that some people are only concerned with price because they feel that the're not going to spend much time in there room. While this may be true you will be spending time most likely at multiple properties. I cannot stress enough the let down you will experience each and every time you return to your property if you stay at the Tropicana. For a few more dollars the upgrade will be worth it.
