The friend I'm travelling to Vegas with wants to go to a "spa in the desert." Does such a thing exist near Vegas, or does Vegas pretty much have the market cornered on spas? Part of the problem is that I'm 24, so we can't rent a car.

Alternately, anyone know any good tours out to the "desert" part of Vegas?

Yes, most of the upscale resorts on the strip have spas.
Also, a little way away from the strip is Green Valley Spa and Red Rocks.
Lake Las Vegas (17 miles from strip) also has spa hotels.

At the south end of Death Valley about 80 miles from town

Red Rock Resort is up at the edge of the Spring Mountains in Summerlin, nice side trip to a Spa that takes you away from the strip. Another great spot nearby in Summerlin is the J.W Marriot resort.

May also suggest Lake Las Vegas.
