Vegans/Vegetarians!

Anybody have a list of the vegetarian snacks at the food booths during the Food and Wine Festival this year?? Going in 2 weeks, and again in 6 weeks! :mickeybar

I just read Safetymom's post and looked at all the photos - looks like I'll be on a dessert tour.... I did see veggie samosa but I eat those all the time anyway.

And remember, Disney CM's aren't great at understanding veggie. I'll be looking for a veggie list next week, as I understand that they did have one last year.

Last year (AFTER I went to the festival), I read on the DISboards that there is a program with a list of all the ingredients in the food samples. Please let me know if you come across such a thing.

Ok, I went through the recipe book real quick and picked out the vegetarian non desserts:

Porotos Granados (beans + squash)
Spanikopita
Potato Leek Soup
Tortilla
Bostana (cuke + tomato salad)
Hummus
Samosas

The Porotos, bostana, hummus, and samosas are vegan, as well.

Thanks, Forever42! I was a little discouraged after looking at SafetyMom's photos of the festival food signs. Sounds like there's more vegetarain samples than I thought!

I don't care what any of you say, bash me if you must,I DON"T CARE!
But it is OK to eat meat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do you think God almighty put these animals on this earth?
To allow them to run rampid on this earth and over-populate?
I don't think so.
They are given for food and that is that.
I love veggies myself, but when I read this thread,I just had to voice my opinion.
Again,bash me if you must.But.........
LONG LIVE MEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yum,yum! Give me some more of that bar-b-qued pork!

Good for you - I wear leather shoes. Everyone has their own reasons, and I only have a few items which I stopped eating due to humane concerns.

Some of us have gone veggie due to health reasons, not just humane concerns.

But thanks for your input, and enjoy your pork! :)

I am vegan, and my dh eats meat but absolutely no dairy products. There is something for me in *almost every WDW restaurant...TS or CS. Sometimes you just need to call ahead to request something special, or even mention it to the waitstaff at your table. Be aware of the ingredients ahead of time as much as possible by reviewing menus on AllEarsNet. I don't care for the Vegetarian Orlando/Disney World book...I just didn't find it all that useful. I can't really put my finger on why...but perhaps it's because I've been vegan so long that the info is all stuff I knew/could figure out on my own?? It might be worth a look for a newbie. :sunny:

I absolutely agree with you about the factory farming issues. Although I became vegan many years ago for health reasons, not ethical ones...I could absolutely never go back to meat at this point. For those who eat meat...and I truly believe some people DO need it to be healthy...I would suggest considering "safer" sources of meat such as antibiotic, hormone, and cruelty-free cuts. Generally these can be found at health food stores. For those who live in New England (and I think Chicago, as well???), Fresh City uses "good meat" in their food. :) Same with dairy. If you MUST consume dairy (although IMO it's a horrible idea for a wide variety of reasons), consider organic, RBGH-free brands.

Here are a couple of interesting websites: www.themeatrix.com (explains factory farming) and www.notmilk.com (click on the cartoon doctor in the upper left for a succinct review of the reasons humans were not meant to have milk or other dairy products in our diets). And if you think this is all a load of crap, then simply don't check out the links. It's really that easy.

That's fine for you, but not everyone. My husband isn't a vegetarian, and that works for him. It's pretty rude of you to post something like that, by the way. I don't give meat eaters a hard time about eating meat and post about going veggie on the "best steak in WDW" or "where are the turkey legs?" threads. That would also be rude. I don't think my DH and I could stay married if we gave each other a hard time about eating what we eat.

So, a couple here have posted that they didn't like the Vegetarian WDW book. I would assume that it wouldn't be very up-to-date. But I've heard from other vegetarians/vegans that it was helpful for them. I guess I'll have to read for myself! :teeth:

This thread obviously isn't for you. Why would you come on here just to shout like that? Especially considering that I was just asking about vegetarian options in WDW - I wasn't trying to recruit people or telling everyine about the horrors of meat. :confused3

Also, we all have differing opinions. You think it's OK to eat meat. I don't have a problem with eating meat, I have a problem with the way the animals are treated beforehand.

And I do not believe that God put animals on this earth just for our consumption.
(Also, ever think that some people don't necessarily have Christian beliefs?)

Thanks for posting your opinion! You are obviously an intelligent, articulate person. I truly admire your mastery of the English language. I don't think anyone other than you could have posted such a well thought out (not to mention grammatical) explication of meat-eating. I'm sure we all wish we could be more like you! ;)
