Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant/Dining Help Thread

What's in the veg pasta dish? Is it the mango-glazed tofu dish, or something different?

I have a question about Chef TJ for those who are familiar with him. I know he's legendarily awesome with the vegan/veg stuff, is he equally awesome with allergies? I need to nail down a few more ADRs for our trip at the end of the month and that would make me a lot more at ease, doing a buffet with my multiple-food-allergic friends.

no not the tofu...if you look at the sci fi menu, you'll see a shrimp pasta dish..
the veggie pasta is the shrimp pasta without the shrimp...
it had pasta, really tasty asparagus. and i don't know what else....i didn't eat it, but DD ordered it each time....she has a very sensitive stomach....becomes ill from anything greasy/oily/cheesy...

she had the veggie pasta 3 times and absolutely raved.....i only stole a few asparagus stalks so i can only tell you that the asparagus was yummy...

LOL!!! I think I made that dish up. Awesome that they're serving it to others! :) Did they add tofu?

I couldn't eat the tofu dish (allergic to mango,) so I asked our server if he could see if I could get the shrimp pasta, but substitute tofu for the shrimp. He said in his 16 years at Sci-Fi, he'd never had anyone make that request. The kitchen was able to do it, no problem, and it was AWESOME. (I am a pasta kinda girl.) Definitely my favorite meal on that trip (in May,) possibly my favorite meal of both trips. We have an ADR at Sci-Fi at the end of the month and I am so excited to eat it again!

Does anyone know what the vegetarian meal is at Whispering Canyon?

Also, does anyone know if you can get something else other than
Uncle Dana's Artichoke and Ricotta Agnolotti - Pearl Pasta with Roasted Zucchini and Crookneck Squash with spicy Tomato Broth $16.99 (thanks Allears.com)?

I hate spicy stuff but we would like to try eating here.

Thanks guys.

The vegetarian meal at WCC is quinoa cakes. It's vegan. I haven't had it myself, but if you go to the site the Post Punk Kitchen forums, and go through the food porn forum in the kitchen section, there's a whole thread from someone's recent Disney trip, with the quinoa cakes, which are apparently awesome.

Actually, the menu here on the Dis says it is updated 8/11 and the Cassoulet is not on there. In it's place is "Cheese Tortellini with Julienne vegetables, fresh Romano, garlic & garlic marinara sauce." Which is definitely *not* vegan. Very disappointing, I hope it isn't true. :confused3

That's odd, because that is the meal they were offering before the cassoulet.. When we talked to the Poly's conceirge CM she said it was still the cassoulet as of last week. Wonder what the real dish is?

Hey-quick question.

Just seeing if any of you have ordered a side of veggies (spinach, etc.) with a meal at a TS, and if so, what's the cost? Fingers crossed () that next year I won't, but now I have severe anemia, but am working on it. Either way, I need to get my iron and don't feel like taking supplements with breakfast (it doesn't help either that I drink o.j. for breakfast and Vit. C depletes iron absorption)
:cool1:
Thanks!

Actually, I've heard the opposite from several sources, including my DS's pediatrician. She suggested liquid iron supplement for him, 1 ml in a glass of OJ daily. It's worked for him and me both!

Let's just hope the Dis info is incorrect!

FYI -- have your chef double-check the broth on that Uncle Dana's. (I, too, wish they offered an alternate veg dish, but this is what I went with when we were there in July.) The chef I had thought the broth was not vegetarian, so he used watered-down marinara on mine.

The quinoa cakes at WCC were okay, I have a feeling most here would think they were awesome! I did find it to be a fairly small plate, though.

i should point out that the veggie pasta isn't on the menu - you have to request it....you just call it 'veggie pasta' and they make it for you..

i'm not a pasta person but DD is and it's her favorite dish in all WDW!!

Here's a link to that thread. Some good looking meals there--and I didn't know that the Pizza Planet vegan pizza had soy cheese of some kind.

Right. Calcium and caffeine inhibit iron absorption, and vitamin C helps it.

I forgot to mention I drink calcium-enriched OJ. You are right, iron is absorbed better with Vit. C, just not with calcium. I'm glad it has worked for you, hopefully I can "cure" it.

Hey everyone, so this is the first time ever we are going to get the dining plan (I did the math and we are totally going to get our money's worth especially now that Boma is $40 a pop!:scared1:)
We are eatings at(for dinner)

Garden Grill
Crystal Palace
Ohana
Boma(1st time! So excited!!!)

I'm not worried about the table service places, as I always have more than enough to eat(even doing a walk-up- the only exception has been 1900 PF for breakfast), but what are you favorite counter service options on the dining plan? I love Columbia Harbour House, Tangierine cafe, but at Hollywood studios I suppose the Backlot Express is the only real option and Animal Kingdom I have no clue. Does anywhere give you an actual vegan dessert (Divvies?) with your entree or do they just give you an extra side typically?

Aside from the ones you mentioned I really like Wolfgang Puck Express at DTD and Sunshine Seasons at Epcot.

I've heard Restaurantasouras (sp?) in AK has a veggie sandwich. According to the All Ears menu it comes with sweet potato fries. I may have to check that out on my trip.

Just saw on another thread that Sci-fi is getting rid of the tofu dish. I was on the wall between there and Mama Melrose for our trip in a couple of weeks, but I guess that my decision has been made for me! :confused3

This is really late on the CRT thing but better late then never right?! I had the Pomodoro Fish minus the fish and it was a pasta Pomodoro dish with fresh tonatoes and perfectly seasoned, very authentic italian tasting. It was vegan and Delish! I think CRT was actually one of my faces of the trip believe it or not!

MY EXACT PLAN as well!

OMG! I could live off of the Cookies with frosting! The Donuts are soooo good as well and the employees are always so sweet !

Hey everyone, just FYI I started a Blog(have a little bit of extra time now that DS4 just started VPK and get restless for the 3 hours he is there)
The blog is just for Vegan & vegetarian food porn from Walt Disney World locations. If any of you want to email me pictures

vegancupcake561@gmail.com

http://veggiefoodpornatdisney.blogspot.com

If possible please include the following
A picture of the food with a description
Where you purchased it(Park,Resort,Downtown Disney?)
Which meal(Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
The Chef's Name(if you can remember)
Label it Vegan or Vegetarian
Also please make a note if you ahd to ask for anything special to be done to the dish to accommodate your diet(hold the cheese, switch the bread, etc)

I think this will be a fun project for me and it will definitely help a lot of us!
