Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant/Dining Help Thread

The title to this thread is a bit misleading. It is not a VEGETARIAN thread AT ALL. It's a vegan thread. BIG DIFFERENCE when one is not vegan. It took me 8 or 10 pages deep into this thread to realize there's nothing vegetarian about this thread.

Seeking vegetarian foods at Disney is a lot easier and different than finding vegan meals I'm sure.

Weird. I don't see that. I forget that it isn't a vegan only thread and find myself constantly surprised by talk of meals with cheese in them! Then I remember it is a vegetarian thread too.

Maybe it is because as you have said, it seems very easy to find a vegetarian option right on the menu at most locations. Vegan is trickier, and requires more investigating!

This is both. We equally help people looking for information for both vegetarian or vegan. But as you said, it's a lot easier so not as many ask about vegetarian. Many meals can be made vegetarian , just by asking to leave off the meat. It's a little trickier for vegan. Actually there are quite a few vegetarian pictures and talk a few pages back.

We are equal opportunity here. If you would like some vegetarian help..........please let us know :) We'd be very happy to help.

Going to echo what everyone else is saying. The vegetarian help is pretty scarce in this thread, but I think that's because Disney does such a great job at making sure vegetarians have at least one option on every menu. I think it's great that they do that. Jiko actually have both a vegetarian and vegan menu, separate from their regular menus which is really awesome. I wish all the restaurants were like that.

Speaking of Jiko, I am taking another trip this August and while I have always wanted to go to Jiko, I noticed that their vegan entree is a bit different now. It's roasted vegetables. I have nothing against roasted vegetables, but whenever I think of roasted vegetables well...I sometimes picture something bland. For $26, that also seems a bit steep. So my question is, has anyone had this before and is it worth the price?

Do you have a link to the new menu? Last year's was so good. I'd like to see what it is before I pick that as my birthday dinner in July.

I have a (probably dumb) question about dedicated fryers.

When dedicated fryers are mentioned (like at backlot studios,) I presume that means they fry no meat products in them -- only veg-friendly stuff. Or is it only the french fries? Is this something I need to ask for specifically or do they automatically segregate?

I've been veg for going on 20 years (!!!) and am finding out there are areas in which my knowledge is sadly deficient, lol.

Thanks! :)

I think we all learn new things every day so no worries!
I think dedicated fryers means that they are dedicated to just one item - like for french fries, as you said. I would probably ask a cast member though, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks!

I am one who hates to inconvenience anyone more than necessary. I will definitely ensure that my needs are met and speak up if need-be, but I always hate to go to trouble due to my dietary choices, kwim? Anyways, I know from experience one less question makes life a lot easier, lol. :)

I'm heading off in three days, with tons of help from this thread, I will make an ovo-lacto (& random allergen) report here when I get back!

It's both a vegetarian and a vegan thread, so I don't see how the title can be misleading. :confused3 I think vegan food just gets discussed more because it requires more planning, especially since vegetarians, (and omnis too for that matter,) can eat vegan food if they choose to, so vegan food discussion can be helpful to both.

Awesome Thanks!!
I think I need to rework some of our reservations :)
I know, right! The most exciting thing I read in all of that was that Morocco will be getting a veg-friendly tapas bar. Hopefully that's open by my next trip. And I have to readd Kouzzina to my plans, his meal looked wonderful there.

OMG this is great!! I've been thinking about starting a vegan disney blog, just because the more info that is out there for other vegans to have the better.

Thanks so much for the link!!
I would love if you, or anyone, started a Disney blog. I'm going to start one myself, though mine will be a general vegan blog, with all my personal cooking as well and stuff. I just haven't gotten around to actually doing it yet. But the Disney blogs are extremely helpful!

I promised a lot of vegetarian meal photos, and now I'm back from my trip! The only problem, though, is that I've never posted photo on the Dis before. I think I've read up on how to do it correctly- let me start by trying to post a pic of my favorite veg snack- the vegetable eggroll at AK. If this works, I'll make it my mission to post meal pics this weekend...

OK- that seems to have worked! (And now I'm hungry...)

just signing up for this great thread...
i haven't had a chance to read through it completely (i'm only on page 7), but wanted to subscribe..
also, i noticed someone mentioned eating at tokyo dining...
be careful there - much of their food is made with hidden chicken or meat stock (i don't recall which)...
we've eaten there before and didn't know, but the last time there was a very knowledgeable manager (not japanese) who immediately said eating vegetarian at tokyo dining is very difficult because of the meat/chicken based soup stock used in many of the dishes (including the sushi)..

so beware, as the servers don't seem to understand that there might be an underlying ingredient that could be a problem...

Thanks for the tip about Tokyo Dining. I get frustrated by hidden beef and chicken stock!
