Yes, I would also like to know what the ingredients are in butterbeer as i can not consume dairy.

I've read in multiple places on this forum and online that it is non-dairy. I've also read accounts of people who are lactose-intolerant who have consumed the drink and have had no problems.

**************.net states that while Universal Orlando has declared that it is indeed non-dairy, they never revealed what is in it.

(hm, the forum wont let me post the link to the short article bc i haven't posted enough...:confused3)

Oops. Sorry, my eyes slid right over that sentence. Looks like you're all set now. Have a great trip!

And thanks for offering to post the link :goodvibes

Will definitely be posting my US/IOA experience Monday when i get back!! ESPECIALLY what butterbeer tastes like! :cool1:

We're not vegan (rather we're vegetarian) but we, of course, eat vegan when it's the only vegetarian option, so I'm curious if anyone has any updates to the OP of this thread.

Penne is a pasta. Pasta has three base ingredients: Flour, Egg, and salt. Unless this is some sort of Penne where egg is substituted.

Pad Thai as well is commonly made using flat egg noodles, usually mixed with rice noodles at the Thai restaurants I have been to.

I don't think I should need to source those two. Those are standards for the dishes named...

...You've got me on the leek soup though. I'm assuming it had cream, or at the least, butter, because my body doesn't process dairy. I usually throw up the whey after my food has digested, and that happened to me when the leek soup was all I had eaten that day.

Planbee, I believe you. :flower3:, I just been burned way too many times by restaurants lying to me about ingredients. Usually I'll just eat salads and fresh fruit if I eat out at all.

Almost all dry pasta has no eggs. Fresh pasta almost always has egg unless you make it yourself or go to a vegan restaurant or inquire.

Most places that make pad thai use rice noodles, but of course you would need to inquire because occasionally a place would use dry pasta.........but again most dry pasta does not contain egg. I guess occasionally a place might use a fresh pasta......but traditional pad thai uses rice noodles that does not contain egg. Inquiring and talking to the staff at the restaurant is the only way to know for sure. I'd worry more about fish sauce or oyster sauce at a Thai restaurant.

All soups need to be inquired about because soups could contain meat broths, milk and creams, etc. No matter where you eat unless it's a vegan restaurant I would inquire and ask lots of questions about the soup.

There is no reason for a vegan to eat salads and fruit while out. With some questioning and scanning of the menu I can usually find great things to eat while eating out. I don't typically go to places that don't have decent options. I check online, call, etc. first. I won't go to places like Cracker Barrel or Texas Roadhouse where I know there aren't any decent options. Planning ahead is key. I ate very very well at Disney last year as a vegan.

Sorry guys, I totally don't know how to quote more than one person in a post. BUT I think this is totally strange! Why aren't they telling people what is in the Butterbeer?

Hi - Before my trip last July I did extensive research including calling and talking to two seperate people one who called me back. They will definately not tell you what's in it as it is a proprietary secret **??**. Apparently the

See here for info on my calls and a thread specifically about Butter beer. For vegans - skip the butterbeer and head straight over to the pumpkin juice express..........oh my heavens I love and to this day crave pumpkin juice. Don't even fret..........my pumpkin juice looked so much better than my families butterbeer, lol. See pictures in my live report below.

Here was my first call to Universal:

I first said I wanted to know what the ingredients were for the butterbeer so I could make sure I could drink it. She said it's proprietary and she can't give that out.

I asked her if there was dairy and milk in the butterbeer. She wanted to know how severe the allergy there was. She said if there is a severe milk allergy, they recommend to not drink it. She said the FDA has approved it as a non-dairy drink, and that if there is less than a specific amount of milk product it doesn't have to go on a label. She said this could be the same for any ingredient. That if there is less than a specific amount of any ingredient in a product, no matter what it is it doesn't have to be listed.

I asked if this means it was made in a facility that produces other items that have milk or if it's an actual ingredient and she again said she can't give ingredient's due to propriatery information. I also mentioned casein and got the can't give info speech again.

I asked her if there was any gelatin in it and she said no. I asked if there were other animal ingredients in it, and again got the I can't speech.

I asked her if the milk in question is in the topping and she said she can't give ingredient's. I said I just want to know if it's in the drink or the topping so I can know if I can drink just the drink without the topping. She said it can't be sold without the topping (which is the first I've heard it can't - although I don't know if it's just because no one has tried to do it without). She said it is a rule they can't sell without the topping.

Here is what happened when a guy called me back a little later:

I did get a call from Universal a little after I called them. When they called me it was in reference to the e-mail I sent since I didn't give them any personal information when I called today.

The guy who called me was a little more helpful and said the dairy in question is in the topping and not the drink, but that they won't sell them seperately due to Harry Potter and JK Rowling and their contract with them (or something to that effect). He said they were real strict with not being able to sell without the topping.

He said the dairy in the topping is negligable enough that the drink is considered gluten free by the FDA. Now I don't know much about gluten free, but is dairy thrown in to the mix with gluten free? I thought it was just wheat type things, but I know nothing about that so I might be wrong. I wonder if he meant dairy free as the girl this morning said dairy free by the FDA. I didn't question him and just let him continue.

Also a word about Moe's.
-The sauteed mushroom and onions are made with oil (but always ask if it's butter-- fast food chains change/vary)
-tortillas are vegan, some even serve whole wheat
-Salsas are vegan-- no anchovies
-the sour cream may or may not contain gelatin (usually NOT, I'm told)
-Tofu: some veg's may eat this and some may not. It's sometimes cooked on a veggie grill, but sometimes cooked on a "cleaned" meat grill. Many Moe's just scrape the meat grill and cook the tofu on it. It's not like you'd find a chunk of meat in your tofu, but I'm not sure any liquid is used to clean it. Just a scraper.

My advice: Moe's is a great place for vegans & vegetarians. As far as your choices go, just ask at your particular Moe's what their practices are (if you mind).

Moe's was where I ate lunch all three days that I was at Universal Studios and IOA. We would eat dinner offsite each night. Moe's is a great choice for someone who is vegan and it's not a far walk from either park. It's right at citywalk upstairs next to the movie theatre.

You can see my choices of what I ate at the link below (from my dining review).
