VDH Points Chart HIGHER than VGC?!

Not a surprise. Despite the category ranking, most people I know want to stay at Disneyland Hotel over Grand Cal. They are selling nostalgia.
I don’t know anyone in the real world (as opposed to what someone says in a thread in DISBoards) who prefers the Disneyland Hotel to The Grand Californian.

I know people who like that it cost less per night and stay there because it cost less, but no one who would choose it for the same price.

If most people preferred it, then Disney would charge more to stay at the Disneyland Hotel instead of the other way around.

That’s not a knock on the Disneyland Hotel on an absolute basis, it’s just that everyone who I have ever talked to thinks that The Grand Californian is the superior option.

100% agree. I have owned APs/keys on and off over the past 30 years and stayed at all 3 Disney properties and I have never heard of anybody who prefers Disneyland Hotel over Grand Californian. Grand Californian has always been less than half the distance to both parks (obviously on top of DCA with private entry)-- and the monorail option doesn't help for anybody who has DCA as their first park of the day.

I'm just going to hope that VDH makes it a little easier to find opportunities to book VGC, especially this fall and winter as people drop VGC bookings to stay at VDH. :)

I too don‘t know of anyone that prefers DLH over GCH. No comparison IMO.

Interesting, we always stayed at the DL Hotel before they built the GC, but since they built the GC I prefer it over the DL Hotel. For me there’s no nostalgia, the DL hotel that I remember has disappeared w/ all of the changes through the years, some of my favorite areas are long gone.

Maybe there are some folks who just like tacking on that extra .5mi power walk through Downtown Disney traffic in the mornings and schlepping back at the end of the day. :)
That’s what most non-Disneyland people are unaware of. Not only is DLH farther than many of the good neighbor hotels on Harbor. VDH sits farthest point of DLH!

My husband and I are relatively athletic but our kids are post-stroller yet pre-middle school and I do not see us signing up for at extra mile round trip for several years.... but I do think the Disneyland Hotel absolutely has its charms (and it was where I stayed with my parents as a kid)-- I just don't recommend it over VGC unless it's at a substantial discount (which it may yet be, the way VGC has been selling!).

It’s not just high though, it’s higher than any WDW resort. I expected VDH to average maybe a point a night less at the standard level, not be the same. It’s a bummer.
I cannot possibly see how VDH is anywhere in the same league as VGC, VGF, Riviera, or Polynesian. I too expected standard rooms to be a few points cheaper than the flagship whilst view rooms would be a bit higher than VGC because of cheekiness. Disney are doing this because they know there is demand and unlike WDW, there is no other resort competition. I started off desiring this property and yet the more I learned about it, the more it pushed me to VGC resale.

I think they should give credit to @ehh in the article.
The DIS post which shared the POS is linked twice in the story.

DVCNews has published stories on the significance of the Maximum Reallocation for new resorts for more than 15 years. If forum posters have taken it to the next level and assembled even more detailed projections for VDH...great! But none of those projections were utilized in the story linked above.

So, what are your thoughts on whether this gives us any clue to decisions for Poly tower?
