Does anyone know WHY they don't have them? It baffles me why they would not have one in all rooms. Has anyone ever asked and gotten an answer?

Keeping in mind the timeshare standard where 2BR villas are the norm, most studios (2nd bedrooms) have access to the VCR/DVD in the living room of the villa. Most master bedrooms do not have VCR/DVD either (none at DVC resorts).

However, they have recently added DVD players to the studios at HH and would not be surprised to see the other resorts get a similar treatment as time goes on. I would think that adding them to dedicated studios might be in order- since those are never part of a 2br villa.

In addition to VCRs, none of the DVC studios have jacuzzi tubs, washer/ dryers or dishwashers either. :smooth: :teeth:

We had never been to a timeshare presentation before we bought DVC. We have now gone on 2 HGVC presentations, and I was totally in awe of the HGVC's studios. I don't know the resort, it's by the Publix. They have dishwashers, real plates and I didn't bother looking in the bathrooms. We just wanted to get out of there and enjoy our WDW vacation.

I didn't buy DVC for the amenities, but for WDW location. We had no idea just how nice some timeshares could be.

I do agree that being able to watch a DVC/VCR while in a studio would be great, especially in the winter when parks close early. We have watched movies at VB, and we're happy we can do that there.

hh and vb studios got the VCR long ago. I think to help with sales.

the WDW DVC resorts don't need help with sales - so I can't see DVC putting them in.

you can get a cheap DVD portable one. Some people once say that some viedo rental also had VCR to rent. I can't remember the name.

We rarely stay in studios. But when we do, we rarely spend much time in the room. When we are in a 1 BR we hang out there much more, so the DVD or VCR is nice to have.

we drag the small portable along. DS & DH watch it on the plane too.

sure came in handy last trip when we were stranded in Atlanta for hours waiting for weather to clear.

That's an upgrade from when we stayed at the HGVC near Sea World in 1997 (it was a Bahama themed resort). My wife was so disappointed with the studio at the HGVC after having just spent a week in a 1BR at VB and a week at Dixie Landings that she started crying during the sales pitch...er, tour. They ended the tour early, upgraded us to a 2BR, provided the two Sea World tickets (the actual incentive of the tour besides the discounted studio accomodations), 50 Disney Dollars, a giant fruit, wine and cheese basket AND reimbursed us for the three nights stay that we had paid for studio accomodations, plus we never had to finish the tour. If I recall, the studio had a horrible odor to it and the reservations desk told us they had nowhere to move us the first night. The manager, in our opinion, went overboard trying to accomodate us for the troubles, but we weren't going to complain about them throwing stuff at us. Ironically, we spent the remainder of our time (other than the day at Sea World) frequenting the Boardwalk at WDW.

Regards

And who needs a dishwasher to wash paper plates!! LOL. But I was just thinking of how much we enjoyed watching movies when we were in VB. And during the rainy season (don't want to use that "H" word) it would come in handy, even in a studio...Just asking.

A lot of timeshare studios actually have real plates, etc. But as a rule, a VCR or DVD are unusual in a studio, even Marriott.

Keep in mind the existing cabinets may not be able to fit a VCR. I doubt it would fit in the OKW one.

Who in the world wants to bother washing plates or even putting them in a dishwasher?

Much easier to throw the pates in the garbage when were done.

I can tell you that a studio with real plates and utensils is a plus. In addition they tend to have microwave bowls and utensils for the grill. If all you want is paper plates, they are easy to come by.

Well, when you only have four paper plates for a seven night stay, real plates sound kind of nice. By day five, I was eating my bagel and banana out of a bowl. And I was a solo traveler! To tell the truth, though, I'd rather have a wineglass than a VCR. Studios don't have those, either, and the concierge told me that he couldn't give me one.

I LOVE MY STUDIOS!!!!! I don't cook on vacation and rarely eat anything in the room. And I'd drink wine from my shoe, if I didn't have a glass...I was just asking about the VCRs. And the only reason I asked is with the upcoming possible rain, it would be a nice treat, to be able to stay in your room and watch a movie. :happytv:

I haven't done so, but was told here that you can ask for more paper plates. I don't see why not, we were in a 2 bedroom last week, and I asked for and received more dishwasher detergent.

When I stay in a studio (for more than 1-2 days) I bring a small grilled cheese maker, I see Walgreens has them for under $9 this week, that's about what I paid, and some Glad storage containers with lids to eat cereal out of. I am going to go to some outlets in Pigeon Forge next month to try to find some nice dishes that are light and microwaveable. Someone on this board mentioned Tupperware dishes, and they may be what we end up with.

I understand that housekeeping could also give you something that they do have in villas, like a blender. I don't know why housekeeping couldn't give you a pair of wineglasses.

There was a DVD player in our studio room at VWL last week. Glad we didn't encounter a hurricane as I didn't bring any movies along for the kids anyway ("No, I'm not packing movies, the studios don't have don't have DVD players, that's only 1BRs and up" - mom) :)

I called housekeeping for a new coffee maker (ours had mold growing in the water resevoir area (which I started to clean out but then remembered *I* was on vacation!) Housekeeping brought me a tiny replacement, which also needed cleaning, but not as bad. She promised to try and get a larger one, but I guess these were hard to come by.

oh if DVC is putting them in all the studios that would be great. You don't need to bring any. community hall or if your case the gift shop at WL carries some DVD or VCR for DVC member and guests to borrow.

I will be at BWV and OKW studio shortly - will definitely look for one!!!!

The concierge told me that he had wineglasses, but he couldn't give me one because they aren't standard equipment in a studio. Eh, next time I might just bring a 50 cent Ikea wineglass with me. Otherwise, I pretend I'm in an Italian cafe and drink out of the tumblers.

Deemarch, I love the studios, too. I've never felt so comfortable in a hotel room before. It was a perfect fit! And the kitchenette had exactly the right appliances for what I needed. I just missed real tableware.

you just contacted the wrong person. Ask housekeeping. they are generally more than happy to help a DVC member.
