Vbs

How's everyone's VBS plans going? Have you had VBS? Is your week coming up? Or are you in the midst of your week right now like we are? I'd love to hear from you all.:goodvibes

Ours is July 6-10 and I am not going to be able to help. My surgeon moved up my surgery to July 10th and the 6th I have to go for a pre op visit with my reg. dr. But my ds are helping. (Teen leaders) So I am sure they will tell me how it goes. I will decorate if they need something or one of the ds say they dont like how their rooms look. With the teachers permission of course) My ds said - I dont want to decorate the room if you are not going to be there etc. I guess all this cancer stuff is getting to him too. Oh well, God has other plans for me right now and there will always be next year.

Our VBS is free but our church is really suffering financially. I guess due to the economy. Just wondering does your church charge for VBS or is it free?We take a free will offering and only ask the kids to bring in a white t shirt for craft one day and if they dont we supply them too.

We are doing Studio Go! I haven't even really looked at the books yet, which is bad news because I will need to do almost all pre-planning for our church.

We are doing Crocodile Dock too! In fact, I put together the big standup Croc display tonight. lol

My church (Catholic) did Kingdom of the Son (African theme).

The church where I teach (Baptist) is doing Boomerang Express.

Ours is $15 a kid, $40 family maximum. I am ok with that. Anything more than that I would be annoyed.

The church we went to last year (my dd's preschool at the time) didn't charge for VBS.

Ours was last week, we did Boomerang Express and the group of volunteers did an amazing job building a train and ticket office for the stage!

They had a gentleman come in the first who was on one of the U.S. Boomerang teams - he did lots of demonstrations and talked about the thing that makes a boomerang a boomerang is that it "comes back." That (comes back) was part of the theming for the VBS curriculm and song....."it all comes back to Jesus"!

We had a great time! Hope yours goes really well!!!! Have fun!

What awesome responses :).

Our Studio Go Gameshow started this Monday. I have all the songs stuck in my head. The song cd is in my car, the dance cd is in our dvd player, and we sing the songs each night. I should post pictures of how we have things set up so you all can see.

Our vbs has always been free of charge. The only $$ we will take is for the girl and boy buckets raising money for our missionary. All monies raised will go to them. The last tally was a whopping $20 some dollars in change.

Sounds like everyone's planning is going well, went well, or is off to a great start :woohoo:. How awesome!

live4christp1- Having one of the boomerang members come must've been a blast for the kids and adults.

luvmarypoppins, I hope your pre op and surgery go well.

MariDisney, we wrapped three contestants in saran wrap last night, played Let's Make a Deal Tuesday, and passed cooked macaroni while blindfolded on Monday. The games have been a lot of fun for the kids. It makes the opening of VBS a lot of fun.

For those of you who have had vbs, is there any thing you think you would've done differently?

When is/ was your carnival? Was/is it the last day or do you wait until Sunday? Or, do you have a carnival? Just curious.

Well my two girls are going this week, and the theme is "Discovery Canyon".

Now the funny thing(Ok,maybe not funny)that we are Jewish;) (My husband is not).but my 2 youngest went to preschool at this Lutheran church. They dont go every yr to VBS..depending if we are in town or not.

My youngest will be 5 in Aug, and she is enjoying her week. They have it from 6-8:30 this week (M-F), they even give the kids dinner before it starts. They do not charge a fee. Since we are not members of the church,we give them money on the last night . I think its only fair, as they do so much without asking a dime from us.

I don't know of any church that wouldn't LOVE to have visitors! :yay:

Well, we did go to our local Methodist who is doing Studio Go. What a cute set up and the kids really enjoy it. They will do more on Sunday to show what the kids learned if the parents weren't able to make it today for the closing. Actually, I have to get ready to go now for the closing which is 45 minutes long. Have fun with your VBS plans.

Vacation Bible School!! I just printed out the form today for our Church. We are doing Rome, Paul and the Underground Church.

This is the one we did, too! It was AMAZING! Our VBS director really outdoes herself every year with decorations, costumes, etc. The kids really got a lot out of visiting Paul and the Underground Church.

Our church doesn't charge a fee for VBS. We have lots of visitors that come, church runs bus routes, etc. I don't know what our final count was but the 2nd night I think there were 76 kids.....plus all the teens and adults who were there to help.

They do collect an offering, every year it is boys against girls to see who can raise the most, they weigh the offering each night (kids buy rolls of pennies or $5 bricks).

This year the money went for one of our missionary families that are serving in Guam who had to come home unexpectedly due to a family emergency. One way tickets were $2600. More info here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2199224

Well our VBS kids (and adults) did such a great job, they brought in almost $1300 in 4 nights. That will pay for one of those tickets.:goodvibes

My 5 year old did Boomerang Express at a Baptist Church earlier this month and is doing BE again this week at a Methodist Church. Both were free! The VBS at the Baptist Church had over 200 kids participating.

Our Church (Methodist) is doing Crocodile Dock the end of July. I'm teaching the 4 year olds.

How many of you VBS teachers spend your own money on decorations / supplies / treats for the kids?
