Hi Everyone,

I've been to VB and landed in Melbourne, which is convenient but a little expensive right now for October. I'll be flying from Boston.

Where do you land when you go to VB? How much hassle to get to VB from wherever you land? How long is the trip?

Thanks,

Jane

Thanks for asking this. My wife and I are thinking about our first trip to VB and we were wondering the same thing. I look forward to seeing the answers here (we would be flying from NYC). Thanks,
Michael

We have been flying into Orlando(MCO) the last 4 trips. It is 96 miles form MCO to VB. It usually takes us about 1 hour and 20 minutes. It is 115 miles to go from VB to WDW.

You will get the largest selection(and cheapest) of direct flights into MCO compared to Melbourne and West Palm Beach. We will be trying WPB airport( in Dec) in the future though since my sister just moved there 4 months ago.

For most people who are going to Vero Beach, they would fly into WPB (or Melbourne). However, all of us with the WDW connection have been using Orlando to get there. Truth is, it's not a heck of a lot further and the airport is nicer. Both WPB and MCO will take you about an hour and half to two hours (depending on traffic and how fast you drive).

We actually flew into Tampa and drove to Vero; mileage wasn't much different from Orlando, believe it or not and the plane tickets were quite a bit lower cost.
If you don't mind smaller roads, we found that Rt. 60 takes you from Vero to Tampa. Just be advised that it's basically a 2 lane....you could get stuck behind some slow traffic. We didn't, thank goodness, and I enjoyed seeing FL as we drove. Sorry, I don't remember how long it took. I'm sure that the drive was longer than driving to Orlando....but perhaps only by an hour. :moped:

We flew to Fort Lauderdale because we had a really good rate on airfare. It took us a little less than 2 1/2 hours to get to Vero.

We've always flown in through MCO...

We are familar with the airport, plus there is a larger selection of rental cars, than if you fly into Melbourne...

You can also use SR-60 to get to Florida's Turnpike and follow that up to WDW. It's a good alternate to I-95 and actually brings you closer to WDW -- if that's where you are headed instead of the airport (or leaving from WDW to come to Vero).

As KSP mentions, it is a bit of a gamble. It's a main road but is pretty desolate for most of the way -- traveling through ranchland. Being only two-lanes and problem becomes just that. I don't think I'd like to do it in a big thunderstorm.
