Has anyone been to both Vero Beach and Hilton Head? I took my kids to HH a few years ago and we loved it. Loved the activities, the resort, and the rooms were of the nicest we have every stayed at. After a quick trip to WDW in June I thought I might stop at Vero Beach for two nights for a change of pace and a little relaxation. I am not a DVC member but am especially interested in the Turtle Walk. Please, any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm certain you won't be dissapointed, Vero is a first class resort. has a little more of a "hotel "feel to it IMHO than HH but that isn't a negative comment to either resort. The activities for kids are great at both Vero and HH , the staff IMHO actually work harder than those at WDW to give the resorts that "Disney" feel. I haven't done the Turtle walk as it hasn't been the right time of year when I was there, biut I believe it's done on a lottery basis and is quite popular.

The turtle walk is set up like a lottery as far as the "who gets to go." It is offered twice a week, sorry I can't remember what days. You meet in the lobby the morning of the walk and deposit your room key into a bowl. Kids are asked to draw out key cards one at a time. They keep drawing until they reach 19 people. You meet that night in the rec center and watch a flim on conservation efforts ad other neat info while the turtle scouts comb the beaches looking for a nesting turtle. Once the turtle begins the nesting process they radio up and you go to the beach. The night we were drawn the turtle had nested about a mile south from the resort beach area. It was a nice night !! You stand maybe a foot from her while she lays her eggs and then she covers them up (throwing sand in all directions) As she heads back to the ocean you are allowed to touch her. All the adults declined and let the kids in the group rub her. My son was asked to name her by the ranger he named her "Marley." The next morning we get a knock on our door and its someone from the park service with a card abour our experience and a sea turtle magnet.
