We just came back from trip to VB over Memorial day weekend. It was wonderful. Weather was fantastic. Really great surf to play in at the beach. We stayed in a 1BR on the ground floor in Building 14 facing the ocean (and a cottage). Because we were on the ground floor, we had a much bigger "patio" and a "backyard" with lots of nice landscaping to boot. The resort looks great. Last time we were going to come to VB our ressie was canceled by DVC due to Hurricane Frances, which closed the resort for a couple of months. But it looks great now! The rebuilt beach boardwalk is far nicer than the old one.

The restaurant food was pretty good, but not great. One morning breakfast service was slow, so they bought us our lunch, and we didn't even complain!

The pool slide needs a new paint job, at least on the guard rails. The tiger Lily slide needs work too. I heard the pool area will come under renovation soon.

The interior of our unit was in fine shape. However, VB needs to install DVD players in the units. They still have VCRs, which are rapidly becoming obsolete.

Overall, a great time. As far as stand alone resorts go, you can't do much better than VB. We did not leave the resort the whole time we were there.

I'm glad to hear that you had such a nice time. We were there last Memorial Day weekend, and had great ocean conditions then as well.

Breakfast as lunch? I'm slow, were you waiting for hours?

Mattsdad, thanks for the report! We're going to VB in July. Can't wait!

I agree with you about the VCR's, lol. I thought we would be able to bring DVD's with us for our trip, but fortunately, DisneyPHD was able to tell me that the rooms have VCR's. Can you imagine dragging a bunch of VHS in our luggage :lmao:

If I'm not mistaken, several of the studios will stop manufacturing VHS in the near future, if they haven't already.

But, with all the damage from the hurricanes, I can understand why this would not be a top priority. Obviously, the resort had bigger fish to fry.

Since you never left the resort, you must have found some cool activities...Was there anything that you did that you would recommend that is a must-do? I'll be there with my DH and DSD 16.

Thanks!

Glad to hear you had such a great time...VB sounds fantastic!

Have you ever been there in February or early March? That's probably when we would go.

Shantay, we always go when it is a little warmer, as we have very thin blood. If the water is not at least 80 degrees, we don't touch it!

We have two small kids, ages 7 and 4, so that we concentrated on activities for them. The bar on the second floor, the Green Cabin Room is pretty good, though

Bobbiwoz, I should have said bought us our breakfast. I guess I am the one who is slow. I guess it paid for lunch!

Well, I read it wrong, now I understand!

Thank you for clarifying.

I/We can't wait until we build up some VB points (we have 150 of them, one would think that we wouldn't already be borrowing into '08 for our '07 trip but we are) so we can get into a Beach Cottage, that HAS to be in '08 for our 40th anniversary.

We're heading for a Marriott beach vacation property after our BCV/OKW trip that's only a week away now  We are thinking of stopping at Shutters for lunch on the way down, or even just stopping by to look around.

I have been to VB the last to Presidents Day week for MA school vacation and let me tell you it is FABULOUS!!!!!!!! The weather (I think I have been lucky) has ranged from 73 - 87. The resort is always full that time of year so book early!

Going to VB in July and we're jumping with joy about the trip! :yay:

VCR & VHS? I'll have to tell my kids what they are. Something along the line of records & dial phones? :happytv:

Keeping our fingers crossed that Hurricanes stay away!

Only 55 more days before we arrive. But who's counting? :lmao:

Sorry...me again. Were you able to swim in the ocean, too? Or just at the pool? (Is this a dumb question? I hope you Florida residents don't laugh at me .)
