We will be staying at VB for the first time this August. We been looking into restaurants in the area, plus at the resort.

Shutters and Sonya's, how busy Sun-Wed, do we need to make reservations ahead of time? If so, how far in advance and do we call restaurant directly?

Any suggestions on local places...casual ....greatly appreciated?
Thanks...:thumbsup2

Interested as well, have not been to VB yet and know there is not much close to the resort

We have been to Captain Hiram's, Squid Lips and Mulligans in the area. I prefer Captain Hiram's, but one young cousin mentioned that her mom's crab cakes were better!

We usually wait until we get to the resort to book on site dining. We do enjoy the menu offered at Shutters by the new chef. Everyone enjoys the breakfast with characters.

People mention the Ocean Grill as a place to try, we just have not gotten there yet.

Bobbi:)

Love the ocean grill. Have been there many times. Get there right at 5 to get table by window. Otherwise line gets huge. Don't take reservations. Bloody Mary is fab. And fried oysters are great.

I'm at Vero now. Weather has been perfect so far. The only time you may want to make a reservation for a restaurant at the resort is when they have something special going on. Monday night is a character BBQ dinner. All you can eat. Saturday morning is character breakfast. Sunday morning is brunch without characters. Capt Hiram's is a favorite of mine. Squid Lips and Mulligans are OK. We are going to try 14 Bones for BBQ this week. Never been but I hear it's good. Orchid Island Pizzeria is good and it's within walking distance.

I called and made character reservations for late July and there was not a lot of availability. Reservations do not require a credit card hold there so I would go ahead and book.

Stayed there last August and we really enjoyed Citrus Grillhouse and the brunch on Sunday at Sonya's/Shutters. Made reservations for both ahead of time. Rest of the meals we cooked in our villa. Loved the resort and hoping to go again Summer 2015.

Thank you all so very much for your input....:)

My boys are 16 & 14 so I do not know about the Character meals.....I love them...:thumbsup2

Now to figure out what to do or just wing it!:beach:

I'm also going in August and it's my first time so very interested. I was starting to stress because you always hear people saying to make ressies so at WDW so glad to hear we can probably wing it. :yay:

It's myself, DH and 19 year old step-son so we will probably skip the character meals!

We loved Ocean Grill and did go right at 5. It did get very busy. I think it was a Thursday night. We didn't make an ADR for brunch and were seated pretty much right away. We also mostly cooked in our villa. Tried Capt. Hiram's it was ok.

We were there in August. The only time reservations were needed were the character breakfast. We ate at shutters and the green cabin multiple times and just went there when we wanted to eat. There was not really a wait. Sometimes all the beach view tables at green cabin were taken but if we waited we got one. Food is pretty good and with tables in wonderland, prices were fair. Servers were all very friendly and very accommodating to my kids. Have fun!
