My DW and I are planning a trip to either VB or HH. We are looking for help as to which everyone liked better. Is HH on the beach like VB or is it a bit of a walk or drive? And as far as getting food, which has better resources close by? Thanks for any help. pirate:

What time of year are you planning on going? HH is on the marshes, about a 1.5 mile drive or shuttle to the beach. VB is on the ocean. HH, I would say has the most restaurant selections in the immediate area, while VB has actual onsite dining at Shutters and Sonya's. HH only has take out options.

I prefer Hilton Head from March until Mid November. Dec, Jan and Feb can be down right cold and rainy. VB can be cool then as well, but more likely to get some sun.

Overall, HH is my favorite.

Both are nice areas so it really depends on your preferences. VB is out of town with not as much in the area though that is changing. As noted, VB is on the Beach but many like the Shelter Cove area of HH. Let me give you an additional choice to fit in to your question. What about a rental or exchange to HH. That way you may not have to make the choice between the Beach or not if that's important to you, it is to us.

An exchange would be a great approach for Oct for a 2BR for a week but likely not a good value for less than a week or for a smaller unit. I'd think you could get a rental for that time at one of the Marriott's on the Beach for around $1500 inclusive of all fees. If you need a smaller unit, you may also be able to rent at DVC HH for less than the points would cost you. One of the Marriott's also has 3 BR units if that were important. If you know someone that is an II member directly, you might be able to do even better.

We own at VB and love it. Been there four times. We've been to HHI once and also liked it. We caugt the tail end of a hurrican so it rained a bit while there, but it was fun. The big con to HHI is the beach is a short drive versus VB. The facilities at the HHI beach are nice. They have a pool, club house, and light fare resturant. You have to eat out at HHI mostly unless you cook in of course because there is no on site real resturant.

Overall I just love VB and can't get there enough. VB has a great pool, and the beach is great. The resturants are good (tad expensive), and the Green Cabin room is wonderful to have a beer and look out over the ocean.

Both resorts have their own unique charms, but we prefer VB over HHI... (We own at VB and have been to HHI twice)..

For us, VB is where we go to relax and rejuvinate... It's a quiet community, and with the exception of occaisional shopping, you can stay onsite.. You get the ocean breezes, palm trees, and the sound of surf...

We do love HHI though... The live oaks... "Crabbing" on the boardwalk.. Marsh hares... Bullfrogs.. B'lou Crabbie and Shadow... The only critism I have of HHI is no onsite restaurants, other than take out counter by the Big Dipper Pool.. Also... They need to have a poolside bar by the Big Dipper pool..

In terms of communities, VB and HHI are sharp contrasts... VB is smaller.. There are things to do and places to eat, but it is definately not a touristy town... HHI has hundreds of restaurants.. Quite a few within walking distance..

VB is right on the beach... To get to the ocean at HHI, you have to either walk, bike, drive, or shuttle to the beach house...
