Just saw the beach at VB after visiting last March (07). I cannot believe how much beach has been lost in a year! There is a significant drop off of about 3-4 ft along the whole resort.

:sad2: Are the dunes still intact? Have any photos?

They had just started planting this spreading vegetation on them in 2005/2006 (after the hurricanes).

I am sorry, we have no pictures but at least 1/3 of the picture shown is gone. plus a significant drop off as I previously stated where we saw people sliding down to gain access to the lower portion (at waters edge).

Wow...this is sad.....Do they plan on replenishing it?
Thanks
Kerri

We will be there in mid - june - what happened? Why was there so much beach erosion? I didn't hear about another hurricane. Are you still able to easily access the beach? I have a DD with some balance issues due to a medical condition and there is no way she will be able to slide down, jump down or anything else.

They started a beach reclamation project north of Melbourne, FL. I was not caused by any hurricane but the constant strong rip tides all of last year. I believe there may be a way down to the waters edge, but I am not sure. It sure looked different (almost strange). The beach was always on an angle, but not like this.

This recently posted picture gives you some idea on how much beach area has been removed. The beach chairs are now basically in line with the deck/access stairs. There is a significant drop off point that is even depicted in this picture. As I stated before, in some areas it is as great as 3-4 ft. It is always nice to see the ocean and to have a room overlooking it is a plus.

Mother Nature at work. There were a few significant erosion events(storms) in late Sept through Nov 07 along the Space and Treasure Coast. No where near as bad as '04 Hurricane Season and from Wilma in '05. The 4-5' drop off you see are erosion from NE winds and somewhat typical for the area.
Have fun on your next visit. It's not that bad.

thanks for the pic.
I hope there is a beach there in the summer of 09 when I go:goodvibes
