VB beach chairs/umbrellas?

I've heard that there is a beach chair exchange between DIS members at VB. How do I get on that list? I'm going with my family for the first time next month and I would love to save a little money. I still am a bit surprised that a beach resort would charge you to rent beach chairs and umbrellas. Does anyone else find it weird?

Of course I'm getting worried that Vero may not be warm enough next month to even use the beach. And with the beach restoration they are doing we may have to go to another beach anyway. Maybe I'll just hang out at the pool , they have chairs there, right?

As long as I'm on vacation, I will be happy no matter what!

I don't think that exchange is going on anymore. At any rate, I don't think they had it going during the winter months. The weather is very iffy this time of year. The water is definitely too cold to go in. We just bought cheapy camping chairs from the local Walmart, and passed them on to another couple when we left. They said they would pass them on too. The pool and the hot tub were still really nice during our vacation. And we did take long walks on the beach.

The beach resort doesn't charge for chairs and umbrellas. They just don't provide them and a local contractor does for a fee. Most timeshares don't provide umbrellas and chairs for free, only hotels do, that I have seen in the past.

Charging for beach chairs and umbrellas is standard practice in Florida. Most beaches have rentals. We usually just stop at Surf Style and get some cheap umbrellas and chairs and leave them for someone else to use. It's cheaper than renting when you are planning more than a day or two at the beach. If our trip is short, like one or two days, we just rent at the beach.

Last year was the last year for the VB chair and umbrella swap. Disboards rules prohibit transactions which include collection of money. All members of the swap contributed to the purchase of the chairs and umbrellas. Since there is not a way to fund the purchase, the swap was discontinued.

could a swap be started if someone dontates chairs and people add along as it goes? Just a questio. I am not going till September but we will be buying chairs and leaving them for someone so if someone wanted to use them in a swap they could?
