Vancouver airport hotel?

For our Alaska cruise next summer, I can not find a flight that isn't ridiculous schedule-wise to leave the same day we disembark. Can anyone recommend a hotel near the Vancouver airport? I would like to stay near the airport this day because we have a 6:40 am flight the next day. If the hotels say they have an airport shuttle, do they run day and night? That is, if we have to be heading to the airport around 4:30am-ish, are we going to have trouble getting there? I saw the the Fairport (Fairmont?) is right at the airport, but I was trying to find a less expensive option, but might just go with them, if the shuttle might be a problem. Thanks for any input!

We rented a day room at the Fairmont, and it was fabulous. Tons of food options on the public side of the airport. I don't remember anything close, but then I didn't research anything either.

We always stay at the Fairmont when we're short on time or have ridiculous flight times. It is expensive but so convenient! And the most comfy beds I've ever slept in!!

Thoughts....
  • Fairmont Airport is the closest...
  • Pacific Gateway is the second closest
  • lots of value "Airport Hotels" along Bridgeport, No 3 and Westminster Highway. Very affordable compared downtown hotels
  • Vancouver is a relatively compact city.... even if you stay downtown (a 30 minute taxi ride). Not much longer than a Richmond hotel shuttle trip from No 3 road with boarding delays. If those airport hotel shuttles schedules don't work for you... get a cab.

I'm thinking Fairmont WILL be the least stressful choice. PLUS, I know my hubbie will love watching the planes. I can get a more reasonable price (relatively) if I book a non-refundable stay online. Thanks all, for the input! :-)

We're in the same situation. We disembark Monday and then have a 6:40 AM flight home the next day. But my question is getting from port to the hotel to drop luggage and then back downtown for sight seeing and then back to the hotel. It seems like a lot of extra traveling around the city.
Currently we're booked downtown which seems logistically nice for sight seeing Monday, but not as nice Tuesday morning. Do you have a luggage dump plan and plans for sight seeing Monday?

My family was on the Members Cruise 2015 to Alaska. We stayed at the Fairmont Airport Vancouver after the cruise to get an early flight the next morning. I booked flights for my son on Southwest Airlines and they asked if I needed a hotel. I saved a lot of money booking this hotel through them, give it a try.

Well, I have a tentative plan, 'cause this trip is so far out, and we've never been to Vancouver before. We will be staying in Vancouver the weekend before our cruise and plan on doing sightseeing then. I'm figuring that by the time we are done with our cruise, my kids will be "done" with sightseeing. I was hoping to just get off the ship as late as possible (I know that that isn't very late at all, but still....) catch a cab (I guess) to the hotel, have them hold our luggage/or get an early check in (if possible-I don't want to pay for it). Then, we will just probably chill at the hotel and wing any other sightseeing we might feel compelled to do. I figure that Monday we won't have much time anyway, because we will have to get up so stinking early! Maybe Disers that have been there have better plans based on experience.

That's very similar to our plan. We're flying up to Vancouver on Saturday Aug 6. We get in late so we won't be able to do anything. Then the next day, Sunday, we plan to do some sight seeing. Then Monday we embark on the cruise, but I'm hoping for a couple last Vancouver things in the morning. Then Monday after we get back, we'll see how we feel. My plan was just sort of chill over at Stanley park, maybe see if we feel like hitting the aquarium, but I know my family won't just stay at a hotel all day.

We did the Fairmont as well. Pricey, but the convenience was well worth it. We were exhausted after our cruise as we had done a B2B and had been on the ship 14 days. Our room was ready when we got there and we just crashed, then later went down to the airport for some last minute shopping and got a good night's rest. Because our flight was around 6:30 AM, they told us to be at the ticket counter at 3:30. We did as we were told and the counters didn't even open for another 30 minutes.

we stayed at the Fairmont after our alaskan cruise. We bought Disney transfers from port to airport to get to the hotel after the cruise. We just let them know when we boarded the bus that we would be going to the Fairmont. We were dropped off very close to the entrance to the hotel and we grabbed our bags and went to check in. Our room was ready (at 9:30 am) so we dropped off our bags in the room then took the skytrain back downtown. We rented bikes and biked along Stanley Park then walked around the gaslamp area and had an early dinner. We hopped back on the skytrain to the airport to get the the hotel. The next morning we took the escalator from the hotel to the delta check in area and were at security by 5:30 am and were the first in line. Very quick and easy!

Ah! Disney transfers! I didn't even think of this. That's why these disboards are so great! :thanks:

SOLD!

Do you remember how much the transfers were?

When I tried to add them to our cruise online yesterday it was $25 a person cruise terminal to airport/Fairmont.

Yikes, that's only a good deal if you're one person considering a cab is $35-40. I'm going to rent a car, actually. I can get a car rental from near the cruise terminal and return it to the airport for the day for $40.

The transfers were $25 per person but we only had the two of us and disney's transfers are so easy. A cab will probably run around $40 with tip but the cabs are small and can fit maybe 3-4 people max. Another idea is to take the skytrain to the airport but you have to be okay with taking your luggage with you for a few blocks to the train station.

Thanks. I booked a car today. $40 including taxes and fees and we can use it all day. I know public transit is easy, but this is cheaper than a cab (with all our luggage) plus public transit so it feels like kind of a win!

Plus I was able to book the Fairmont on TripAdvisor.com for one night for $184 so I'm feeling pretty stoked. Once again, something else I would have never thought of would the DIS. You guys and gals are the BEST.

The Pacific Gateway Hotel is a close and much cheaper alternative to the Fairmont with a free shuttle from YVR. Both are excellent options but for a more reasonable price the PGH is great.
