I am curious how the rooms match up at the three levels. I was told by a friend who had stayed at the Poly and at Pop that the rooms and the Beds were pretty much Identical. The only real difference is the resort amenities. Is this true?

The deluxe rooms usually have 2 Queen size or 1 king size bed.
In addition some of the deluxe resorts also have a day bed.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

There is not much room size difference between a mod and a value.

Here is the layout of a mod.
The bathroom is about the same size as the All Stars but you will have 2 sinks instead of one.

here is the All Star room layout'

The mod has 54 square feet more than the value.
That means if both the mod and the value room were 27 feet long than the mod would be 2 feet wider. Just enough room for a double sink instead of a single.

To me there is not a lot of room size difference.
----------------------------------------------------------------

Most of the "extra "space at AKL and /or WL is the bathroom area.
And that really isn't bigger just laid out different with an extra door.
The extra room ,the extra square footage is actually the entry hallway!

I am not sure about the quality of the beds. However, I do know that the deluxe resorts have queen size beds, while the moderates have full size.
Comparing resorts is subjective. Some look at them as a place to sleep. Others look at them as a place to live while on vacation. I consider it a place to live, therefor people may consider me a resort snob. It is all in what you want and are willing to pay for.
The amenities are where the real difference is. Deluxe rooms are usually bigger, and provide inside hallways as opposed to the motel style of the lower level rooms. Better dining options. Usually more transportation options and closer to a theme park. Deluxe resorts have nicer beaches and pool areas. The lobbies of the deluxe resorts are better suited for sitting, relaxing, meeting people. In short, deluxe resorts were built to hang out and enjoy. The other reosrt levels were built to sleep and swim

Don't forget about the actual size of the room. The value rooms are 260 square feet, the Port Orleans resorts and the Coronado Spring resort rooms are 314 square feet and the Caribbean Beach Resort rooms are 340 square feet. When you bump up to the deluxe resorts, you have more of a choice on room size.

The bus stops at the value resorts are not covered. The bus stops at the moderates are covered. I am not sure about the deluxe resort bus stops.

I know that all of the moderate resorts have marinas and I believe many of the deluxe resorts do as well.

The moderate resorts and the deluxe resorts also have full service restaurants whereas the values have food courts.

I totally agree. I don't care for the value resorts, but a lot of people love them as an inexpensive option. As for Mods,when it was just two of us, there was no need to spend extra money on a deluxe. The room size was good, there are double sinks, the theming and grounds are nice. We also didn't mind walking a half mile to go to breakfast or the pool.

Now that we have kids, I don't mind staying at the moderates, but I really prefer the deluxes. The restaurants, pools, etc. are usually more convenient to access from the guest rooms. There are closet doors to keep all of our stuff out of site (the mods & values don't have closet doors), the beds & rooms are bigger, and you can often get a balcony or patio (which is nice when the kids are asleep and you and your spouse can sit and talk).

It all comes down to personal preference and budget.

almost.

love Pop

value - food court, nice swimming pool, arcade, little landscaping (although they have done alot at Pop) Double (full size) beds, pool bar (although Pop has a lounge), gift shop. the less Cm's per guest of any WDW resort. the All stars have the worst views (okay pop does have a lake). the smallest room.

moderates - food court, restuarant, nice swimming pool with slide, sometimes other pools, one hot tub, arcade, more landscaping, 2 sinks, again Double (full size ) beds, pool bar and lounge (with entertainment PO), gift shop. A little more CM's per guest. (CSR has a gym and beauty salon). some of the rooms have a little better view. the middle room. (although CRB is as large as AKL and WL rooms)

deluxes - no food court (this is a problem for me), snack bar, restuarants generally 2 or more, nice swimming pool with slide, plus other pools, several hot tubs, pool bar and lounge, gift shop or general store, better beds or at least the sheets are better. a gym. these generally have a theme swimming pools that goes with the resort. More Cm's per guest. the biggest rooms on property. the rooms have generally the best views and generally balconies to enjoy them!!!!

If you are the type of person who doesn't like to be waited on. More than willing to do stuff yourself then the values are just fine.if you want more attention then moderates, if you - the most attention - then deluxe.

the other big thing is the views - although I found the lake view at Pop to be pretty wonderful.

the only resort room to have balconies is the deluxe (including DVC with it)

I asked a cast member last time that we were at WDW about the comfort of the beds and she confirmed that the beds DO get more comfortable as you upgrade a resort. She said that the newly refurbished moderates and deluxes have pillowtop mattreses. We stayed a week at the Pop, and our backs suffered b/c the beds there are like concrete! Other than that, I really enjoyed the Pop, it feels very "Disney" to me.:thumbsup2

spiceycat gave some very good comparisons of the different amentias that the different level levels of Disney's resort have. Here are some more that were posted on another thread by another DIS member:

FWIW, Here are my opinions on the advantages/disadvantages of each level:

Advantage of Value over Moderates and Deluxes
* Price.
* Food Courts for quick meals.
* Pop Century has its own bus.
* All Stars resorts share busses, but there is usually very little wait on either end.

Disadvantage of Values
* Small rooms.
* Double or King sized beds only.
* Large groups can sometimes be rowdy.
* No pool slide or hot tub.
* external corridors.
* Pizza delivery only.

Advantage of Moderate over Values
* Nicer feature pools with slides and hot tubs.
* Bigger rooms.
* Sit-down restaurants (all but POFQ).
* Real bars in main area plus pool bar, not just pool bar (except POP).
* Nicer food court, it's not just one big room.
* No giant icons.

Disadvantages of Moderates
* Double or King sized beds only.
* Can be spread out and most need an internal bus system.
* External corridors.
* Pizza delivery only.

Advantage of Deluxe over Moderates and Values
* Bigger rooms yet. Many can sleep 5 people.
* Queen or King sized beds.
* Large variety of sit-down restaurants.
* Nicer feature pools, many with zero entry.
* Internal corridors.
* All have sliding glass doors and most have balconies or patios.
* Most have special proximity to parks: monorail/boat to MK, walk/boat to
Epcot/MGM.
* Room service.
* Valet parking.

Disadvantage of Deluxes
* Epcot deluxes do not have snack shops for a quick meal, except the Beach Club Marketplace.
* Price.
* Busses are often shared, especially the Epcot resorts. The ride can take a long time.
* Self parking can be difficult, especially at the monorail hotels.

When my husband was growing up his parents always stayed off property. When we went the first time we did too and the whole trip I was saying that I wished we had stayed on property. Therefore, when he heard about AKL he liked the theme of the resort and decided we would stay there for our first experience on property together. Can we say it SPOILED both of us...that Savannah view is incredible. Our next stay as you can tell from my signature was WL. Husband loved that even more... This past spring I mentioned taking a last minute trip and trying to save some money by staying at a moderate expecting him to think that it was a great idea! Instead , he says, "Remember how we weren't sure about buying into DVC last summer? I'm sure now! Book SSR on the new points we are about to buy:banana: "

HHHMMMMM, I think my husband likes the feeling of being waited on at the Deluxe hotels...which works for me too;)
