Value vs. Mod vs. Deluxe

Other than pricing, why choose one over another?

It really comes down to personal taste, expectations, etc.

We have stayed at all levels and, truthfully, we prefer our moderate. We loved the Poly when we stayed there, but not the price. We love that the CSR has queen beds, a fitness center/spa, three quiet pools, a hot tub (the largest of all of the mods (something the Poly did not have), a sit down restaurant, counter service food, take out food, a very large gift shop and beautiful landscaping, etc. We also like that it has outdoor entrances. We're in Florida and want to enjoy the Florida weather...not walk down a long, dark often cold corridor.

"Location, Location, Location." One of my favorite things about the Beach Club was the lovely walk home from EPCOT, where we ended 3 of our 4 evenings on the '99 trip. I thought there couldn't be anything nicer than that - until we stayed at the Poly in '04 and had the monorail access, plus the lovely boat ride to/from MK as another option. If I'm getting to WDW only once every 5 years, I'm going to splurge on a Monorail or EPCOT resort and enjoy the convenience.

Bigger rooms, bigger beds, more amenities.

My fav (and only value I'll stay at) is the Pop. The others dont compare, imho.
The pop is fun. Its just fun. The rooms are tiny, so if you dont stay in them much, and wander the grounds and pool area, its nice. If you are planning on spreading out in the room with 4 people, omg its crowded.

Fav Mod is Coronado.
Lots of amenties, lots of pools, lots of food choices. I have picky eaters. Swimming, room size, and food are priorities.

I love all of the deluxes.
The beds at FWL were to die for. I liked the location and would stay there in fall/ winter again. Love BWV - nice to spread out. Great for couples and families with teens b/c of the boardwalk and walking path to HWS and Epcot. SSR was lovely, out of the way, quiet - great splash pool, and good food choices. I love their roast beef sandwich/ panini.

My next stay, I am splitting b/t the pop for fun, and a deluxe for lounging at the end of the trip.

Well the Value Resorts will have the smallest room sizes, the Moderate Resorts will have a standard room size and the Deluxe Resorts will have the biggest rooms sizes.

Besides that the Value Resorts only have counter service locations to eat at, where as both the Moderate and Deluxe Resorts have both counter service and table service locations.

Finally the Value Resorts only have buses to all the parks and Downtown Disney, where as the both the Moderate and Deluxe Resorts also have the monorail, boats and walkways to the parks and Downtown Disney.

It just depends on what you NEED from a resort.

I as an adult need a clean place to sleep and a food court. I stayed at a value and was fine with it.

Values would work with families who want a pool but don't care about a water slide or kids who really like the thememing, or they have a large family and need multiple rooms.

Some people have kids who want a water slide or they want a jacuzzi or they want more elaborate landscapping and more of a resort vs disney theme, they may look at a mod.

Some people want the convience of a monorail or sit down resturants with charecters or fine dining, they may like to visit the spa, thier kids may spend lots of time at the pool or want to go to a kids club they will look at deluxes

Actually the value and mod rooms are the same size. Or at least they have the same room set up. Outside entrances to rooms, one king or two full sized beds, one table with two chairs. Alcove with sink and closet seperated from room with curtain and then a enclosed toliet and tub/shower combo.

And only some deluxes have boats and only a few deluxes have the monorail at all (CR, Poly and GF have a monorail and the monorail goes to Magic Kingdom and Epcot and to the Transportation center). I'm not sure which or any mods have boats at least to the parks...there might be one that has a boat to DTD. It depends on the resort, but you have to check on that carefully.

Oh and Coranado Springs is listed as a mod but in truth it seems the most like a deluxe (compared to other mods) from my research and would probably be my choice if I wasn't doing a value and didn't want to pay for a Deluxe.

We like the deluxe resorts because of the dining options, spas, location and a balcony and view.

We've realized that perhaps we've gotten "too old" as a family for the value resorts. We've stayed at all 4 of them, but on our last trip we all grew less tolerant of the crowds, the craziness, and the busses. We've upgraded to moderates for our upcoming trips.

I've only stayed at Deluxes (Poly, CR, WL and AKV) but for us now, we are 100% AKV (esp. since buying DVC last trip!). The kids love the pools/slides, we like sit down restraunts and also we truly just enjoy wandering around the resorts and relaxing. A balcony is a must for winding down after a long day.

We like the deluxes because of their location, size of room, queen beds and a daybed, entrance to rooms are not exposed, the views and many more.

It has just always been me and dd20. When at WDW our favorite has been the moderates. We do not spend alot of time in the room and don't usually need/want the extras found at a deluxe. (I am, however, the total opposite when on a non-disney vacation....gotta have 4/5 star). We have stayed at deluxes a few times because we have gotten a fantastic rate or we are not spending as much time in the parks and more at the resort and want the extras.

We have never stayed at a value. They do not appeal to us at all. No one can tell YOU what will work for you. Depends on what you need or what you like to have. The right answer is whatever suits YOU!

Both the Magic Kingdom Resorts and Epcot Resorts have boat services.

The Polynesian and Grand Floridian share a boat which goes to the Magic Kingdom. There is also a boat that goes between the Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. So they have more then just the Monorail.

Also the Boardwalk, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan and Dolphin have boats which go to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

As for the Moderate Resorts POFQ and POR have boat service to Downtown Disney, so I forgot to mention which is the one.

Thanks, knew that there were combinations, just couldn't remember them all. Wouldn't want someone to think they could take a boat from Animal Kingdom lodge...well I guess they could take a boat...just wouldn't go anywhere..LOL.

You're welcome and I realized I made a mistake in my previous reply. When I said the Polynesian and Grand Floridian share a boat which goes to the Contemporary, I meant to say it goes to the Magic Kingdom.

For deluxe vs. other categories...Size of room and location to parks...kids clubs, better pools, sit down restaurants, room service, interior entrances, resort activities (there are several with storytelling/campfire things in the evening for deluxe resorts)

The only deluxe I can think of that that does not have easier transportation is AKL,but it is close to AK Park and has dedicated buses...plus it has live animals roaming around the savannas at the resort...the Pop may look like fun but can't beat that for me...

we leave early in the morning and get back late at night, it is just a place to sleep, doesn;t have to be pretty

We have stayed at the ASM in a family suite....boy I wish they had that set up in other resorts. We could put the DS3 down for a nap and kick back on the couch for an afternoon rest. The pool was fine, but on our last trip, stayed at CSR. We booked 2 rooms (after all the parents want a vacation too!) Now next time we go the pool slide is a must! DS8 was addicted to the slide. After all you need to find a happy compromise for everyone. The grounds are not as important as the restaraunts. I would like to try an EPCOT resort, I like the thought of the villas, but all I really need is a coffee pot & a refrigerator...we are not looking to cook.
The best thing about Disney....whatever your budget, whenever you go, you can make it happen!:dance3:

Well, if your kids are old enough that they won't sleep in the same bed and they don't want to sleep with mom or dad AND speaking solely of the "standard" rooms and excepting the rooms with King beds-

All the values only have full size beds and they only have two beds.

All the mods except POR only sleep four and only have two beds. POR has a trundle in the AB section but priority for these rooms is given to families of five.

Of the Mods only CSR has queen beds.

Despite being deluxe resorts WL and AK only have two queen beds in their standard rooms.

Most, but not all, standard rooms at BW, BC, YC, CR, Poly and GF will sleep 5/have two queen beds and a day bed.

This does not take into account ASMu Suites, CSR Suites, FW Cabins, or deluxe rooms or suites at any of the deluxe resorts or nor any of the villa rooms.
