Hi - I was looking into booking at a value resort for the week of 12/16 thru 12/22. I've heard that is an excellent time to go to DW because crowds are low and they pick up a few days before Christmas. Anyway, the resorts that I looked at said 2 adults and 2 children or 4 max per room. Are adjustments made for 5 or is it not possible unless they are 3 are younger? My DD are 7, 10 & 12. Also, whats the best way to book to save money? Should you get your tickets w/the lodging as a package? I noticed they were not park hoppers and we like the park hoppers. Thanks for any info that you can give me!

I believe that in the value resorts the 5th person must be under 3. There is not enough room for an extra bed, just for a crib.
As far as what is cheaper, with or without the tickets, it sort of depends. There are places to get discount tickets and also places to get discount rooms, like AAA, or mousesavers. If you do get the tickets with the room, you can upgrade the ticket to allow park hopping and to also allow use of Disney Quest or the water parks ( may not care about that in December ).
For 5 people the most inexpensive on site resort is POR which has a trundle bed in some rooms.

With the new MYW (Magic Your Way) tickets, you have to add the park hopping on to the tickets, they don't sell the regular park hoppers anymore. You buy the base ticket for however many days you want (the more days you buy, the cheaper the cost per day) then add the park hopping option. For the value resorts, you can only have 4 people and one under 3 in a crib.

Hope this helps!

If you book your room separate from other aspects of your trip, noone will ask how many people are in your room. I've always hated the Max guest number on many hotels. I think it's just a way to get you to spend more for a suite or 2 connecting rooms.

Don't flame me please, I just figure if I don't mind cramming my family of 5 into a very small room that's my business. :flower:

The Value resorts do not have large rooms. They are small. I would recommend the CBR.

I haven't stayed in a value but from all I've heard they are very small and you would probably appreciate the extra room. Also they will ask you at the front desk how many people you have b/c if you want each member of your party to have a room key so they can take advantage of EMH you'll have to let them know. Good luck with your decision!

Yes, values are very small. My sister and mom had a connecting room to our king, and therefore had 2 doubles, and there was SO little room to walk around. We were very very cramped when spending time in there. The king room is a little better, but still very small. I can't imagine even putting 4 in there for more than a day or two, much less 5 - esp with the ages of your family.

I highly recommend trying to get a good deal on a value room and get connecting rooms there, giving you 2 baths, 2 tv's, and lots of extra space.

Also, keep in mind that the max in the room is 4, therefore, you will only receive 4 roomkeys and 1 member of your family will not be allowed into extra magic hours, which are a HUGE perk. If you are willing to miss EMHs, then I would suggest going offsite and doing a condo or vacation home instead, so you get a cheaper stay and more space.

My vote would be for 2 connecting rooms at a value....like stated above 2 baths, 2 tv's etc. We will be getting 2 values for our group of 4, the value rooms are very small but just fine for 2, I'd hate to cram 4 in there let alone 5.

We have stayed both times we went as a family of 5 in POR with a trundle and it was quite a bit cheaper than 2 rooms at a value, I think we saved something like $600 on a 7 day trip that way. The trundle was comfy enough I slept on it myself. Our family of 5 consisted of 2 Senior Citizens, myself and my two kids 7 and 10 yrs old. In addition to being more economical than two rooms in a value resort, you have extra bells and whistles of a moderate. ie: sit down restaurant Boatwrights, boat to DTD, bike and surrey bike rentals, horse drawn carriage, the use of two great pools at POR and POFQ, not to mention the beautiful grounds.
