We are looking at a January trip. I've been over 30 times in my life, with the vast majority of stays off site. Starting in 2005, we have stayed at POP 3 times. I had planned to upgrade to a mod for our next trip, but most of my reasons for upgrading are due to pools, which shouldn't be much of a factor in January. DH indicated last time he'd like I try something new, but I hesitate with all stars. I would consider a standard room at AOA, but I doubt a discount would come our way. What would you do? Try something new, or stick with what you know? This trip will be, at minimum, DH, me, DS 3yo, and DS 1yo in our room, with my dad in another room.

Haven't stayed at POP yet (but will this next January! :yay:), but did stay at All-Star Movies and had a great time! We shared buses some days with the other All-Stars, but it was never a problem. All-Star Music looked great too (I took a stroll there with my DD). I'd say go ahead and try a new one if you're don't want to upgrade on this trip. You'll be fine. :thumbsup2

That's the dilemma with my wife going back anytime soon - doing things just abit differently. However, it always revolves around Value vs Moderate. Since you seem to be leaning towards Value, if it were me, I'd stay @ POP.

The fact you don't share buses with the All Stars is enough for me to stay @ POP. Besides if you want something slightly different, get a preferred room close to the food court and bus stop so you're not dragging yourself to the room after a long day in the park.

we just came back from our disney trip and it was fantastic, we stayed at the sports for the days while going to the parks, then moved to Coronado Springs for the relax and pool days... we enjoyed the pools and amenities, and they are more whimsical rooms than in Coronado Springs, that is the same size room but more fancy (they have a coffee machine in the room, nothing else as equipment) and it is very nice... the pool areas are incredible, and the whole concept is out of your mind, it is like if you were in cancun sans the beach! we are liking this plan cause it lets us relax after the park days...

We have been down there in January and the weather was great. We were in the pools everyday. The temperature can be in the 80's in January just depends. have a good trip.

Oh I'm not ruling out swimming, but I'm not paying that much more for a chance at nicer pools. The POP pools are fine if we do end up swimming. I tend to get in routines at disney, so I'm trying to figure out if this is one I should get out of. The podcast reviews recently were not flattering about sports and music.

We usually stick with one resort that we love until we are ready for a change. I say, don't mess with perfection. ;)

We were down just this past January and it was in the mid-80's everyday- so I certainly wouldn't count out the possibility of swimming!
I'm pretty sure that even in "cooler" Disney Januarys, I have been swimming after a long day in the parks..so, I would consider upgrading if you find something that really interests you! A change is always nice :)

The MOD rooms are a bit bigger but the main difference is that now all MODS except CBR have queen beds. Also if you get POR-Aligator Bayou you could put all 5 in one room and save $ if you wanted to. You could also put all 5 folks in a deluxe as well(not AKL or WL) for just a bit more than 2 Value rooms.

We are not upgrading on this trip. We aren't sharing a room with my dad, either. We can actually do that at any resort as our youngest is still under 3, but definitely not sharing with him. Bed size is not an issue. We are ok with it for a week.

I am considering moving our Spring Break trip to the last week in January to take advantage of the lower prices. I'm with you... I'm not paying for awesome pools when I may or may not get to swim. Anyway, I'll be busy enjoying all that park time with lower crowds and much less heat.

I love POP and it is the one I'm figuring we'll go back to for that trip.

But if you're looking for a change... how 'bout All-Star Sports? It looks like the rooms are getting somewhat of a refurb. From a quick Google, it looks like the food court refurb will be finished in December. I really don't think the bus sharing would be that big of a deal; to me, it's kind of like the mods with multiple stops. I wonder though, about tour groups etc. in January staying at the All Stars. I'd research that for sure.

I wouldn't throw out the LM room at AoA idea, either. It looks like a fun resort to stay at at least once. Who knows, maybe they will put out a small discount.

But in all honesty, myself... I'd stick with POP  :hippie:
